Grandmama’s Curiosity

I sat comfortably on my living room couch, my phone pressed against my ear as I chatted with my grandmother, talking about the weather and other trivial matters. It was a routine conversation, but one that brought me comfort, especially since my grandmother lived far away.

As I chatted away, I heard a knock on my front door. I glanced at the clock and realized that Abaddon was right on time for their shopping trip. Trying to keep my conversation with my grandmother light and casual, I quickly moved to answer the door.

“What are you plans for today, my darling?”

“Oh,” I chirped, excited about the change in subject. “Now that I have the money from the piano gig I told you about, I am going to go out and buy myself one.”

"Hey," Abaddon greeted me with a warm smile as I opened the door.

"Hey," I whispered back, trying to keep my voice down as I did not want my grandmother to know I had someone over. "I'm still on the phone. Come in, I'll be done soon."
