Chapter 7: Security

I massage the side of my head while thinking of a plan regarding the sudden attack. I still can’t believe that they dare to attack us in my residence, even if we already have tons of knights. As far as I remember, we can sense their scent if they are here in our world, but how come we didn’t even notice their strange smell?

Is it possible for them to cast something to themselves so we can’t sense them? Since they are wizards, there’s a possibility that they have a spell for that, but how come we are not aware of that? Or are we clueless about those creatures since we haven’t studied them?

“How’s the filthy maid?” I asked when my butler arrived at my study room. I was sipping my tea while thinking about the possibilities, but I couldn’t even connect everything because the information and scenario were still a mystery.

“One of our knights said that she disappeared after getting shot,” he informed me.

My expression didn’t change. It’s still the same, smiling when I heard the news from him. So this means she is the target here. Maybe she wasn’t able to finish the task that they had commanded, so they executed her right away, but they didn’t think that I was here at my residence. Are they using their brain? I guess not. They even think about the possibilities, but I guess they are too dumb and stupid to think.

“She’s one of them.” I rested my back on my swivel chair. “She’s one of their allies, and they execute her right away.”

My butler’s forehead creased as if he couldn’t understand what I was saying but instead of explaining to him, “How about the wizard? Did you execute that creature?”

“Yes, Your Highness Celeste Louve. They already burned her body using the blue flame,” he answered, so I nodded my head at him.

This is the reason I can trust my butlers and even my knights for this. But my maids, I’m not sure if they are all real. Because of what happened a while ago, I decided to command my butler to look after them since I have doubts about them. I can’t risk myself again for this kind of creature and it’s better to be cautious.

I informed everyone to keep everything secret especially if my parents ask me how I am doing because this should be a secret only since I can’t even share this with my parents because they will get mad at the incident and I don’t want them to think anymore.

“What should we do, Ma’am?” my butler inquired.

“We need to double the security,” I said.

“I’ll call my brother for this matter, Ma’am. He can lend us some of his knights,” he suggested, which made me smile.

His brother is one of the most powerful, and high rank soldiers. He’s the one who’s in charge of training the Knights and soldiers to serve our country, but I didn’t know why my butler chose to be a butler and not to follow my brother. Although I’m curious, I can’t just ask him about personal matters, especially if he doesn’t want to share it with me.

“Just tell me if they will be needing money for this or I’ll be the one who’s in charge of their salary, then it’s fine. We just need to be prepared for the sudden ambush again, just like what happened a while ago,” I uttered before letting out a deep sigh.

“You don’t have to do that, Your Highness. The King will be the one to give their salary. As for now, I’ll try to visit my brother and ask if he can lend us some of his skilled knights. Although I’m not sure if I can talk to him this week due to his busy schedule, I’ll try, Ma’am, since this is a serious matter,” he muttered, which made my head nod in response.

Although I’m not expecting anything from his brother, if he can grant our request, then it will be a big help. I was also thinking if I could borrow some of my parents’ knights, but when I remembered that all of them were from my parents; I became anxious. What if they are also their target and they are making their move that no one will notice just to execute my parents?

Because of this thought, I immediately called my butler’s attention, who was now on his way to leave my room, “Wait.”

He looked at me with curiosity on his face, which he didn’t even bother to hide. “Yes, Your Highness?”

“Is there something you could do about my parents’ knight and maids? Do it right away,” I commanded. He’s the most trusted ally that I have right now and I’m hoping that he will not go to break the trust that I gave and he earned from me.

“May I know what’s the matter, Your Highness? This was all sudden, so forgive me if I always question you on your command, although I have no intention not to follow your command,” he said.

“Do you still remember that all of you are from my parents’ knights, butlers, and maids?” I asked, which made him nod his head without any hesitation, but he was still confused. “The sudden attack of wizards from our maids made us conclude that she was somehow related to them. What if all of my parents’ maids, butlers, and knights are traitors?”

“So, Her Highness and His Highness let you have your own house?” he asked.

“Yes. Maybe that’s the reason they did that is that they know that all of them aren’t on their side. Although, we are not sure if it’s then we could add more knights there. I can’t sleep peacefully knowing that their life is kinda in danger,” I explain.

“I’ll do my best to talk to my brother, Your Highness Celeste. Just give me some time to accomplish this,” he pleaded.

I know my butler will do anything but hearing him pleading makes my heart at ease because I can tell that he’s serious about his work, and he has no intention of breaking the trust that he earned from me so who am I not to give the time that he’s been begging? I know how hard it is to talk to one of the busiest and high-rank soldiers, so I’m not going to make him rush.

“You don’t have to beg. You can talk to him without getting anxious if I get angry about how long you are going to accomplish your task. What I only need you to do is to be careful,” I say.

There’s nothing wrong if it takes time, if he accomplishes his task, or if he fails. We can come up again with a solution if it happens, so I understand him. There’s no need to rush. We can take baby steps, to plan everything thoroughly because I’ve been there.

“Thank you so much, Your Highness Celeste. I’ll keep that in mind,” he said before lowering his head while placing his right hand on his chest like he used to do if he excused himself, greeted me, or whatever it was.

“You can now take your leave,” I commanded, and let out a small smile.
