Chapter 21

The following morning, I was awoken by a knock on the door.  Megan had stayed the night in my room with me, so she hurried to respond.  Peter gave her a friendly smile as he slipped through the opening she created when she pulled the thick oak door open enough to allow him entrance. 

“In all the raucous, I don’t know if I mentioned how good it is to see you, Megan,” he said as he walked to the bed and set a bed tray containing a blood bag, some fresh fruit, crackers, and coffee onto the bottom of the bed.  “I guessed that you’d be in here with her, so I brought enough for two.”

“I’ll pass on the blood,” she said with a smirk, “but I’m happy for the coffee.”

“The pink mug is yours,” he grinned. “Light with two sugars, right?”

Her eyes sparkled with pleasure. “You’ve got a good memory, doc.”
