Chapter 9 You Don't Seem That Foolish

It was well known that Yaslyn would have an allergic reaction upon contact with jade, a fact underscored by the absence of any symptoms on her hands before the incident. To any discerning observer, it was clear that someone was attempting to frame Yaslyn.

Just then, Yaslyn, unperturbed, voiced her query. "Alright, I've said my piece. Now, it's my turn to ask. Mrs. Warren, why did you transfer two hundred thousand dollars to Nancy yesterday?"

Taken aback, both Nancy and Sophie blurted out, "What are you talking about?"

Yaslyn displayed an image on her phone of a transaction record showcasing a substantial sum transferred from Sophie's account to Nancy.

"I did my research, and a maid's salary is around thirty thousand dollars. So, why did Mrs. Warren transfer two hundred thousand dollars to Nancy?"

Yaslyn knew full well that a mere maid would not frame her without a compelling reason. Indeed, as she suspected, the true instigator was evident when she looked into Nancy's finances. It was an elaborate farce orchestrated by none other than Sophie herself.

Everyone was shocked by the evidence, seemingly understanding the whole picture.

However, a spark of curiosity lingered in Xoan's eyes. How did Yaslyn manage to discover the transaction records?

Stammering, Sophie struggled to explain. "Nancy's mother fell ill, and I advanced her salary."

Sophie had not anticipated the turn of events. She had not accounted for Yaslyn's jade allergy.

Stephen sighed. "I was present when Nancy was hired. She's an orphan."

"Yaslyn, I'll surely resolve this matter for you," Stephen said before turning to Xoan. "Xoan, please take Yaslyn to the hospital to treat her hand."

Nodding, Yaslyn left with Xoan.

No sooner had they opened the car door than Xoan's deep voice broke the silence. "I'm sorry."

Taken aback, Yaslyn realized he was apologizing on Sohpie's behalf.

"It's okay," Yaslyn responded with a smile. "You all must be disappointed. If this scheme had succeeded, I would've been forced to leave the Warren family."

"By the way, did you suspect me before this?" Yaslyn asked.

"No, you don't seem that foolish."

A smirk tugged at the corners of Yaslyn's mouth. "Indeed, striving to become Mrs. Xoan? I'm not that foolish."

Xoan was left speechless.

Upon reaching the hospital, the doctor examined Yaslyn's hand before admonishing her, "Young lady, if you knew you were allergic to jade, why did you wear it? And you, young man, how could you be so careless? Fortunately, it's nothing serious. I'll prescribe some ointment, and a few days of application should suffice."

Xoan started to explain but ultimately fell silent. They took the prescription and headed to the pharmacy.

Yaslyn sat on a nearby chair, waiting. Soon enough, Xoan returned.

"Give me your hand."

Yaslyn extended her hand, and Xoan began applying the ointment to her wounds.

"Does it hurt?"

A sensation of cold numbness spread through her hand, naturally causing a bit of pain. However, Yaslyn simply smiled.

"Xoan, you're surprisingly considerate despite your aloof appearance. I think I might be growing fond of you!"

Xoan stiffened at Jasyln's banter, responding seriously, "I've told you, I won't fall for you."

"How boring," Yaslyn chuckled. It was, after all, a joke. She still had a lot to learn about the five members of the Warren family.

However, watching Yaslyn rise to leave, Xoan felt a peculiar sensation stirring within him.
