Chapter 10 Should I Choose You?

By the time Yaslyn and Xoan left the hospital, Stephen and Sophie were in the midst of a heated argument in their room.

"Sophie, Yaslyn has just joined the Warren family. Why are you targeting her so intently? She's just a child!" Stephen exclaimed.

Sophie chuckled coldly and said, "Isn't it all because of you, Stephen? Tell me, why did you bring Yaslyn into the Warren family?"

"I've told you already," Stephen retorted, "I had a marriage arrangement with Yaslyn's father."

"A marriage arrangement? That's just an excuse! Isn't it because you were once in love with Helen Carden?" Sophie shot back.

Upon hearing those words, Stephen's face stiffened. He and Oliver, Yaslyn's father, had been close friends in school, both top students with promising futures. They had both fallen in love with the radiant and youthful Helen—Yaslyn's mother. They agreed to pursue her fairly. Relying on his prominent family background, Stephen managed to arrange a marriage between the Warren and Carden families. However, Helen chose Oliver, running away from the arranged marriage.

It had been many years since Helen passed away. Stephen was taken aback that Sophie knew about the past.

"Did I hit the nail on the head?" Sophie taunted. "You've always been hung up on Helen all these years, haven't you? That's why you brought Yaslyn here and treated her so well!"

Stephen sighed deeply, grasping Sophie's hand. "No, it's not like that. The matter with Helen has long passed. Now, there's only you in my heart."

"If that's the case, why are you so good to Yaslyn?"

Stephen began to recount. "Many years ago, Yaslyn's father and I attended a charity event together. Terrorists suddenly attacked, and he took a bullet for me, resulting in a disability in his left leg. All these years, he took care of Yaslyn in town."

Stephen's face saddened as he continued, "Before Yaslyn's father passed away, he entrusted me to take good care of Yaslyn."

Sophie was momentarily struck silent.

Stephen got lost in the memories. In reality, Helen was not dead.

When Yaslyn and Xoan returned home, only Stephen and Sophie were in the living room. Surprisingly, Sophie sincerely apologized to Yaslyn. Yaslyn did not hold a grudge and went upstairs to rest.

After taking a bath, her door was knocked on. Sophie was the one who came.

"Mrs. Warren, what can I do for you?"

"I want to talk to you."

Once seated in the room, Sophie got straight to the point. "Yaslyn, I now accept that you've come to the Warren family, and I agree to let you marry my son. However, among the five of them, you can't choose Xoan."

Upon hearing that, Yaslyn paused before asking calmly, "Why not?"

"Xoan is my most outstanding son. I already have a satisfactory daughter-in-law in mind for him, so do stay away from him."

It was clear from her words that she thought Yaslyn was not worthy. The 'satisfactory' person was probably Zaylee.

"I understand, Mrs. Warren."

Sophie said nothing more and left the room.

The next day, it was Yaslyn's turn to spend time with her second brother, Sheldon. Sheldon was the Vice President of the Warren Group. He and Xoan were often at odds, and it was rumored that he always liked to go against Xoan.

As soon as they got in the car, Sheldon asked, "How did it go with Xoan yesterday?"

Based on the tone of his question, it was clear there was some tension between them. Yaslyn replied nonchalantly, "It was fine."

"Let me tell you, our eldest brother isn't a good person. He's ruthless and unsympathetic. You shouldn't choose him."

A glint of amusement flashed in Yaslyn's eyes. "Then, should I choose you instead?"
