Chapter Five

POV: Kelly Flores

"Hell no. I need my dress back. It's in his apartment." I growled at Jace with my hands folded.

She had somehow managed to use an unknown voodoo-level trick to convince me to follow her to her car and she had driven me back to my apartment.

Now as I sat across her, furious as hell, I couldn't believe how it had worked.

"I need it, Jace. My watch too." I took a breath.

She sighed. "C'mon. I know you better than anyone else. You don't need any of those. You can replace them a hundred times."

I hated to admit she was right, but she was. I didn't need them. I was just being bitter which should be a perfectly normal response to walking in on my boyfriend fucking a teenage girl.

"Jace, he-" My voice trailed off as another wave of tears choked me.

"I know. I know, love."

Holding it in hurt much worse so I had no other choice but to let it out as Jace held me in her arms. I let the warmth and comfort of her embrace take me.

I sniffed twice, wiped at my eyes, and then said, "My purse. I need that at least. It has my phone innit."

"I'll go get it for you, tho i hate that I have to go there." She shivered before she continued.

"When I saw his call, I almost ignored it. Then he starts talking about how you're about to pull the place down and if I don't come over to yank you away in five minutes he'd call the cops next."

"He's a bastard, that's what he is " I said struggling with another wave of tears.

"Yeah, he is." She muttered, attesting to all I said to make me happy.

Jace stayed with me till I had enough control to keep my eyes from producing more tears. It was either that or I had somehow managed to empty the whole thing.

She left for Jack's after a while to help me get my purse while I waited in the lonely apartment. For the first time, it felt lonely being there by myself.

I decided to binge-watch a timeless rom-com on N*****x, how I met your mother. The first time I had seen it, I laughed so hard I could've sworn I bust a rib but now as I watched it, my eyes welled up with tears.

I started making plans the next day to leave town and probably travelled to an exotic island I've been having in mind before this whole shit happened but Jace convince me to stay back, giving a tangible reason that it's risky for me to be alone while still overwhelmed with my emotions.

That whole week, Jace stayed with me as much as she could, and together with Hannah, my secretary, she handled all my paperwork. She was Godsent.

Soon enough, my new routine lifestyle revolved around my couch, romcoms to boot, and a bucket load of ice cream. Oh, yeah; the blanket too.

Then one night, I ran out of ice cream. I called my Clarke Kent (Jace) but got no answer. She was probably with a cute guy ogling at his baby blue eyes.

I growled. Pathetic!

Anything involving feelings was now pathetic. Those who had feelings were now pathetic. The whole world as far as I know was; pathetic.

In a way, I was pathetic too since I missed Jack and all the stupid lovey-dovey pathetic memories we shared.

I got up from the chair and stretched as far as my tired joints would let me. It was dark outside already and dressed like a sleepy bum would be the appropriate way to go to the store just across the street. My red hair was a tangled mess that completed the look.

As I got to the door, my phone vibrated inside the pocket of my pants. It was hard to bring it out while shutting the door but I managed to do so without dropping the phone.

"Need a knight in shining armor?" The familiar voice of Jace asked through the speaker.

I smiled. "I did but I can tell you have your hands full"

"How cute is he?" I asked balancing the phone on my shoulder and holding it down with my ear.

"Dashing." She said in a chippy tone.

I rolled my eyes. I just couldn't understand what she found interesting about going out with these guys on meaningless dates.

"Well. Have fun." I said rolling my eyes some more.

She assured me she would and the line went dead.

I took the elevator down. The lobby was empty except for Boris, the guard who told me about how he felt I had somehow disappeared from the building. That was when I realized I had been holed up in my room for ten days now. I told him I had the flu.

The street was not as busy as I expected it to be and I wobbled into the sidewalk and then crossed the empty road.

I made my way to the store. Even the store was almost empty. It was as if I had missed an alien invasion and somehow everyone had been abducted.

I shrugged.

If that was the case then I didn't give a fuck. I didn't give a fuck about anything anymore as far as I was concerned.

I moved through the aisle in a sleepy shuffle. I was having trouble finding the freezer so I retraced my steps back to the counter. The attendant would make my job easier.

"Dude. Freezer." I said.

I kept my head low but I could tell it was a guy standing there.

I waited but there was no response. I was tempted to look up but I stopped halfway knowing my face was a mask of misery.

Waiting, I shifted my weight from one foot to the other. I was about to curse out when he spoke.

"Kelly?"
