Heather POV

“Hey Heather the Alpha would like you to meet him in his office when you’re done here.”

“OK. Thanks Beta Ralph.” I answered.

I turned back to help finish cleaning up after our end of the year school party that we had the night before. We had just graduated from grade eight. It was a good ceremony. My Grandmother was able to make the trip down, which was nice. The only thing that would have made it better for me was if my parents had been able to be there. They had been killed in a car accident back in January driving home from a nearby town in a surprise ice storm.

My father was the Beta of the Blue Ridge Pack, which is the pack I was born into. Beta Ralph had stepped into the roll after my father’s death. My mom and dad had met while my mother was attending a college out in British Columbia. I remember them telling me how my father had tried almost every cheesy romantic cliché to get my mother to go out with him after he messed up their first meeting. He hadn’t made the best first impression on her. With him being a werewolf and realizing that my mother was his mate, he thought that it was a good idea to just pick her up, throw her over his shoulder and walk out of the pool party with her so that the other guys would no longer be looking at her in her bikini. This might have worked if my mother had not been human. Needless to say, she had no idea that werewolves even existed, or what a mate bond was. In the end, he must have done something right or I wouldn’t be here.

After the accident, the Alpha, Alpha Sean moved me in with his family. This wasn’t that big of a change, since I was best friends with his daughter Dawn and spent most of my time in the Alpha quarters of the pack house anyway. The main part of the packhouse could have been mistaken for a hotel. The main floor consisted of a large kitchen, a dining room, a games room, a lounge area with TV, a conference room, a few washrooms here and there, the offices of the Alpha, Luna and Beta and the elevator that could be used to access the upper floors of rooms if you didn’t feel like using the stairs. The second floor had fifteen rooms, each with a double bed and a small bathroom, and was used to house unmated males when needed. The third floor was the same as the second but was used to house unmated she-wolves. The fourth floor was divided into two, with half being six guest rooms that had a king bed, a seating area and a private bathroom. The other half of the floor was the Alpha’s private quarters. It was accessed by a separate entrance or elevator from the main floor. It consisted of an open floor plan kitchen, dining room and living room combo, three bedrooms, a shared bathroom and the master bedroom with en-suite. All the bedrooms in the entire building were made sound proof, since werewolves tend to be a little loud when they are “entertaining”.

I walked into the pack house, headed to Alpha Sean’s office and rang the bell, since knocking was pointless because of the soundproofing.

“Come in.” Came the Alpha’s voice over the intercom speaker.

“Morning Alpha, Beta Ralph said you wanted to see me.”

“Yes Heather, come in, have a seat.”

As I entered, I noticed that my Grandmother was already there sitting on the couch. I walked over, gave her a hug and sat down beside her. Alpha Sean walked around his desk and came to sit in one of the high-backed wing chairs across from my Grandmother and I.

“Ok. So, Heather, you have asked me about going to live with your Grandmother. Is this something you would still like to do?”

“Yes. She is the only blood family I have left from my mother’s side.” She was actually the only blood relative I had left. Both of my father’s parents had passed before my Dad even met my Mom and he was an only child. “I would like to get to know her better.”

Don’t get me wrong, I do know my Grandmother. I just never spent a lot of time with her because of where she lived. She lived about three hours further up north in another pack’s territory. With my father being the Beta, we didn’t get as many chances to visit her as we would have liked. We tried to go about once a year and I spend a couple of weeks in the summer with her a few times. My mother told me that it had taken my Grandmother about three years into my parents’ relationship for her to accept my father. That was about the same time I was born. I was always surprised at the fact that my Mom had grown up surrounded by werewolves, but did know they existed until she met my Dad. She’d even gone to high school with some of them. Apparently, my Grandmother had known of them, but never told my mother. There’s a story behind the reason. I’ll have to ask her about it sometime.

“I have contacted Alpha Shane of the Twin Moon Pack, which is the territory that, Lyla, your Grandma lives in.” The land that my Grandmother’s house was on had not been part of the Twin Moon pack territory until about two years ago. She had made a deal with Alpha Shane to sell him the land around her home as long as she could keep living in the house. It was a way that she was able to make sure that the land would stay untouched and it gave the Twin Moon pack the much needed forested area.

“He has suggested that you attend the high school that has been set up in the area between his pack and the neighbouring pack, the Silver River Pack, not the public human school in the nearby town. Alpha Shane thinks that since you are half wolf you could benefit from some of the extra programs they have at the school, and I agree with him. You know as well as I do that, because you are only half werewolf, we won’t know if you even have a wolf until close to your eighteenth birthday. By attending the packs’ school you will not be behind, on your battle training if you do have a wolf. If it turns out that you don’t, you will have learned some really good self-defence moves. Now do either of you beautiful ladies have any questions?”

My Grandmother and I spent the next half hour to forty-five minutes going over minor stuff about my move. It had been decided that I would be staying until the beginning of August with the Blue Ridge pack so I could have time with the friends I was leaving. Then I could have the time until school started in September to settle in Grandma’s place and get to know the area a bit.
