Chapter 25

  The next day, around five o\'clock, Zoey woke up from yet another dream. The rainstorm had subsided. She turned over, but she couldn\'t sleep. She stood up, brushed her teeth, and opened the refrigerator to get a bottle of cold water.

She had developed a taste for ice-cold water during the time she had spent abroad. It wasn’t time for her medicine yet, but she wanted to be ready with it. She liked to take it with ice-cold water, because the medicine made her body feel hot.

Not far away, a tall figure was stood there like a sculpture, motionless and wet. All around him were debris from last night’s thunderstorm. Occasionally, a cleaner passed him and tried to talk to him, but he merely nodded politely. He said nothing.

Zoey rummaged around for her medicine box. It was nowhere in sight. Had she left it in her car?

Not having her medicine with her made her very uncomfortable, and she briefly considered waking Landon up so he could accompany her there
