PROLOGUE
She was running through the woods laughing at the game she was playing, looking back every so often to see how far behind her sister was, and then she saw The Man. She came to a halt, almost tripping over a tree branch in the process as her hair whipped forward and she stared at him. He was dressed in nothing more than a simple gray t-shirt with blue pants and what appeared to just be regular boots. He seemed like a harmless man, but the way he stared at her made her want to run and hide from him. He was standing and staying still, breathing heavily, reeking of something that made her gag. “Little girl,” he had slowly said to her. His own voice startled him and made him gag when he smelled his own breath. The man he had feasted on was drunk, so Thomas hadn’t the need to knock him out after drinking from him. Clearly, the smell of his alcoholism had lingered on Thomas' breath along with the man’s blood as well. But it only bugged Thomas for a moment as he saw the girl before h

CHAPTER ONE
“I’m not! I track down and kill your kind! My only interest is finding out why Lucian wants you so badly,” said Selene, the heroine of Underworld. I watched the movie intently on my bed as I unconsciously rubbed the spot where I was bitten when I was six years old. I gazed down at my left shoulder, even though the bite marks had faded long ago it had left something else behind in return. Just like Blade from the movies, I am classified as a Daywalker. Meaning, I can walk freely around in the sun without worrying about it burning me into ashes, but I still craved human blood like any other Vampire. Vampires didn’t have to face my evil torture though; school. I felt a cool breeze ruffle my hair and I got up to close the doors to my balcony, but not before enjoying the breeze on my face. I shivered, closed the doors to my balcony, and crawled back on my bed. My thirst was coming back stronger every night it seemed, the shivers were a good indication of that. The more hungry yo

CHAPTER TWO
“It’s so nice to see you again, Tammy. How is school going?” “Same shit, different day. Got blood?” I asked. I couldn’t help myself, on the way here listening to Paul’s veins and heart pulse, I was about to let my fangs sink into his jugular and suck him dry. It didn’t help that he kept chewing on the bloodied lip of his and licking it back up into his system. “Heavens, you go through a bag faster than I can drink my coffee. Soon, you’ll have to start feeding on humans. Is this why you’ve brought this young man here today?” I licked my lips and looked over at Paul. He was as pale as I was, and shaking. I smirked, and looked back at Thomas. “Paul,” I nodded towards him, “wants to be a Vampire.” “Oh?” Thomas asked, raising an eyebrow at him. I looked over at Thomas and noticed he was in his usual dark black business suit, and his hair still looked brown with a little bit of gray speckles, naked only to the human eye. He was holding himself up, and looking like he was abou

CHAPTER THREE
“Hey, Paul,” I cried. Paul looked over his shoulder at me, quickly turned around and started walking faster. "What an ass," I muttered as I picked up my own place to catch after him. “Did you not hear me when I called your name,” I asked as I finally caught up to him. He shuffled his feet. “I did… but after last night, I didn’t want to see you again…” “I know what happened last night was really bad. But look, he wants me to invite you tonight. As a special guest… join us!” “I’d rather not,” he mumbled. I grabbed him by his collar, finally losing my temper. “Look, I know that Thomas almost drained you of your blood last night, but that doesn’t mean that you can just shut out the world of Vampires.” “Sure it does. All I have to do is just be safe in the sunlight,” he grinned at me. I smiled back and leaned in close to his face, “oh really now? Then how do I go to school?” His smile disappeared and he looked horrified. “That’s what I thought,” I said as my smile grew big

CHAPTER FOUR
I accidently ended up staying out all night, learning all I could from Darien about Thomas. A part of me felt guilty for treating him that way, for snapping on him. But a bigger part of me felt relieved, that a huge weight had been taken off my shoulders. I wondered how tonight would go, if Thomas would show up at all.My sister didn’t go to work until noon, and she was asleep when I left, so I thought that she would still be sleeping. That was a big mistake. When I walked in through the door, she grabbed my arm.“Where the hell have you been? I called the cops and, as far as I’m still concerned, they’re still looking for you! Where were you exactly?” I didn’t tell her, I wanted to tell her, but I couldn’t. I tried prying her away from me, but her manicured nails sunk into my arms.“Where were you? I want an answer NOW, young lady. Were you at a party? Were you drinking? What were you doing?”“I was out drinking blood,” I replied coldly. There, she had her answer. What s

CHAPTER FIVE
I watched my sister go down the stairs, holding her head up high. She thought she knew everything there was to know about Thomas. But that wasn’t true, I knew him a long time before she did. I sighed and rubbed my eyes as I fought to hold back tears. This was a lot harder on me than I ever thought that it would’ve been.I went into my parent’s old bedroom where I slept at night, ever since I made it my own. I picked up my cell phone and pressed number three for the speed dial. The phone rang, and rang, and just when I was about to give up a groggy voice picked up, “Hello?”“Thomas? This is Annabeth. What did I tell you?”I could hear chuckling over the other end of the phone and I growled and felt my fangs prod out. “Oh, Annabeth, don’t you remember what we did to her? She thinks that her only supplier can be me, and unless she figures it out or breaks it, only then will she realize what we’ve done to her and then she’ll wonder why.”“And when will that be? You’ve messed wi

CHAPTER SIX
I closed my front door, crossed the street, and then I knocked on Paul’s door. His dad opened it up. He had this confused look on his face.“Yes?”“Is Paul home still,” I asked.“Yes he is. He just came downstairs for breakfast. Why?”“I just would like to know if he’d like a ride to school with me or not,” I said to him. Paul’s father pulled off his glasses that he had on, and rubbed his eyes.He then leaned against the doorway, and raised an eyebrow at me. “Aren’t you Tammy from across the street?”“Yes, sir I am. My sister Annabeth and I reside there.”“Can I ask just what it is that you’d like with my son? I’ve never seen you knocking on this door before.”I had to think of the ultimate, horrible lie.“Well I’m surprised Paul hasn’t mentioned me before. Although we just made it official just a couple days ago. I’m Paul’s girlfriend.” I then flashed him a brilliant smile, hoping he’d buy it.Paul’s father, Mr Kai, rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I don’t know. What do yo

CHAPTER SEVEN
"Annabeth, your sister here is out of control. We found her smoking in the bathroom, we took away one pack of cigarettes, but then she wiped out another cigarette from her bra. Is she getting these from you?” the principal asked. They found me smoking. Come on, who cares anymore? It was after school hours now, and it was starting to get dark out. Who has parent-teacher conferences this late? Oh yeah, that’s right. It’s a Friday, so they want to keep you from doing something fun. I rolled my eyes at my balding principal.“Yes, I know this. It’s still a little hard trying to keep her from doing bad things when I go to nursing school, and then trying to balance the job that I have as well. I’m thinking about hiring a babysitter for her,” my sister said as she gave me the evil eye.“Is there something else that I should know?” This guy obviously didn’t have kids. I looked at his finger. Huh, there was a wedding ring on there before Ann came in.My sister hesitated, looking th

CHAPTER EIGHT
I was reading Mister B. Gone by: Clive Barker, a book about Demons, when my sister came in. She was pale, and you could tell that she was crying. “Hey, um, you want to get some pizza?” I smiled weakly, said sure, and put down my book. While we were in town, I looked at Pizza Hut, drooling at how wonderful it would be to taste the sauce on my tongue again. It has been awhile since I have had Pizza Hut, my sister was trying to cut down on us eating out so much. But my sister didn’t stop. She kept driving.I couldn’t believe it. We were passing the pizza place! “Hey, Pizza Hut's back there,” I gestured with my thumb. I looked in the side mirror of the car and saw it going farther and farther in the distance. My sister didn’t bother to look at me as she bit down on her lip.She sighed and said slowly, “we’re not going out to eat, Tammy. You are going to stay at a hospital where they help teens like you every day with the problems they have. This is what’s best for all of us.”“

CHAPTER NINE
Later on that night after my sister had finally gone to sleep, I snuck out to meet Thomas and Darien. When I got there, the first thing that Darien did was throw a bag of A negative at me. As I drank my bag of A negative blood; I realized it didn’t taste as good as O negative, but it would have to do.“Now Tammy, while I was away I was having reports done on you. Both Darien and… another source both informed me that you were not drinking human blood anymore. That even when Darien offered you a bag when you invited him inside, you still refused it and kicked him out… Even after you told me you would start drinking normally again,” Thomas said quietly.I could tell that I had really upset him. He wasn’t yelling or even looking at me, rather talking to me like I was a child in trouble. Which I guess I was, in a way.“I was not feeling myself, I guess you could say. I… just didn’t feel up to it.”In the darkness of the woods Thomas said, “Depressed, Tammy, is more like the word to
