Chapter 10

It was almost one in the morning before he finally retire to bed, he has been on Phone since ten in the evening and he didn’t even speak to his wife before he got a call and he was on that call till one in the morning.

“I have to go to work tomorrow, you know.” He said to the caller and that was when he disconnected the call and he was able to drop his cell phone stretched up a bit and went into the bedroom to have a shower and went to bed, his wife Aziza was already in her dreamland when he got to bed, or so he thought.

He took a deep breath as he try to recall some of the interesting conversation that she had told him on phone and smiles cannot leave his mouth as he recall.

“Are we going to continue with this every night?” he heard her soft voice and that was when he realised that she might not be sleeping as he had thought and perhaps she was listening to his conversation.

“What do you mean?” he asked and that was when she turned towards him and he saw her fully awake and staring at him

“For how long are we going to continue with all these?” she asked and sat up looking at him and he was staring at her as well.

“Stop that innocent face please, you know what I am talking about,” she said to her husband.

“What is her name?” she asked him and he sighed.

“Of course, I know, you didn’t even hide it at all, so there is no need to pretend like I don’t know where you go to every weekend, where you return to from work every week days, where you had dinner and just come home to eat my food, you call her for that three hours every day at home! We don’t even have time to talk to you anymore, for two weeks now, I have not been able to talk you to about the appointment I had with the doctor not because you are not home but it is always like you are not here.” She explained painfully and he swallowed hard.

“I can’t even try to fight you because you might decide not to come back home… I don’t know how you see each other and talk to each other every day but I know you understand the sharia rulings of being in seclusion with non mahram.” She said

“I can only hope you are following all that… if you want her so bad like you behave… I think you should do the right thing… let her come in… it is not like you don’t have the means to care for two women.” She said to him and he opened his mouth wide in surprise.

“And about the doctor’s appointment, according to him, I was eight weeks pregnant… but since we have not been able to have a meaningful conversation for two weeks, I think I can just say, I am ten weeks gone…” she said to him and there was silence between them. She looked at him for a while before she turned to the right side and slept off. He didn’t even know what to say.

Habeebullah was born a year after their Nikkah and she got pregnant two years after but lost the pregnancy to an accident that happened while he was away and thus they could not get her pregnant until recently he glanced at her again and sighed .

What she had just said had hit him more than he could imagine and his silence means a lot too.

That means, he was not disputing her accusations, it shows he was guilty as charged.

How could he talk?

He took a deep breath as he closed his eyes and try to find some sleep ...

He need it more than anyone.

“So what did you say to her?” she asked him as he sat down on the chair and she served him some food. He always have his dinner at her place before going home.

“What do you expect me to say?” he asked her and she sighed.

“I thought you said you are the one in charge of your home?” she said half teasing.

“Of course, I am but I think we need to be careful for now.” He said and start eating.

“Be careful of what of her?” she asked him and he sighed.

“Let me eat first.” He said and start his food, he need to think of what to say to her and also how best to say it so that she would not be angry.

After his food, he sat her down and explain to her,

“I will leave very soon, she is a bit indisposed.” He said to her and she raised an eyebrow.

“Just say, you are scared of her.” she said to him and he sighed.

“No, she is pregnant.” He said and bite himself as soon as he said, sometimes, he wondered why he cannot keep secret from her.

“Really? She is pregnant?” she asked with interest.

“Yes, she is and we haven’t told anyone.” She said to him..

“Am I anyone to you?” she asked half teasing.

“Of course, you are not ...” he said and smiled at her then she sighed.

“So now, that she is pregnant... She said with a frown and he swallowed hard, trying to understand what she was trying to say but he could not so he just ask her.

“I hope you would not move further away from me now.” She said to him and he smiled at her.

“You don’t know how to keep your feelings and it is one of those things I admire about you.” He said to her and she smiled lovingly at him.

“You know that can never happen, I told you if I had met you earlier...” He said to her and she nodded , of course he tell her that all the time, most times he would tell how he wished he had met het first...

“I know, but you told me you need more kids, now that she is giving you more kids...” she said to him

“Come on, you know leaving you is not possible? So tell me, what do you want? Should we take this to the next level?” he asked her and she looked at him sharply, there was brightness in her eyes.

“What are you talking about?” she asked him,

“It’s been two and half years of being with you, how about I come see your Dad and let’s get married?” he asked her smiling and she sighed ...

At last

“Are you serious or just pulling my legs? I am not ready for any of your jokes.” She said to him and he sighed. She remembered how he had joked severally about him coming to see her parents for a Nikkah date severally in the past and how he had not live up to his promise.

“I am serious, this time, let do something about it.” He said

“How about this weekend? Is that not too fast? Am I sounding so desperate?” she asked him and he shook his head.

“No, you aren’t , I can’t wait to have you as my wife.” He said to him and she nodded, of course, she can’t wait to have him as a husband as well, it is been long over due, they had been together for thirty months already and all she wanted was to be his wife too.

At least that was what he told her the first time they met.
