“You haven’t left. Is there anything else you need?” Claire asked.

Javier didn’t answer her question; he glanced at her bandaged wound and coldly said, “Get in.”

Lips pursing, Claire recalled the kiss they had shared earlier and felt the need to put up her guard around him. She gave her response some thought before finally uttering, “I appreciate your kind offer to drive me, Mr. Marquez— but I have other things to do, so I’ll be on my way now.”

As she spun to leave, Javier snarled through gritted teeth, “Did I say you could go, Claire?”

That sparked a flame of annoyance in Claire, who whipped around to glare at Javier. She was already anxious enough to look for her son, so Javier’s constant stalling ticked her off.
