Chapter 22 Bring Her Back

Javier’s heart skipped a beat. He had never felt such growing nervousness, interest, and perhaps even a tinge of hopefulness before. Curiosity got the better of him as he stared at Oliver’s little face that reminded him very much of his own. “Ollie, tell me—how old are you again?”

“I’m four, Dad,” Oliver answered truthfully.

At once, Sofia and Pedro noticed Javier’s eyes lighting up in realization. The two shared a knowing look, feeling more confident that their son had been hiding something from them.

“When were you born? Which year and which month?” Javier continued interrogating, his voice trembling so slightly that no one realized. At the same time, he wondered, “He’s four? Was he really conceived on that night five years ago?”

Oliver had never seen his dad so anxious. Being an innocent child with a simple mind, he pouted and lowered his head innocently with concern for his dad. He briefly pondered before responding, “I was born on December 5th.”
