ATTICUS POV Everything we said was ignored. Not one of the pack members trusted us enough to listen to us. They blatantly displayed their dislike for us no matter what we said by remaining silent and cold. In the end, we decided to walk away and allow the W.O.L.F agents to fix the food shortage issue. It was obvious the members wanted us gone because they immediately began to communicate with the agents. We gaze up at the open sky and sigh. The stars look like twinkling diamonds in the dark sky and we wish we could fall into them. The stench of shame has coated our flesh and we know there is no escaping it. Rupert Kincaid was our father. We hurt and helped imprison several young wolves who are now gone. Their families have no reason to forgive us. Even if we were under orders or afraid for Adeline we hurt them. "Atticus," Karina whispers from about five feet back, but we continue to ignore her. She has been behind us ever since we walked away from the gathering, but we don'
KARINA POV "Outcast is amazing. The people are very understanding and everyone tries to work together. Of course, you have your occasional jerks. Not everyone who comes there is perfect, but I really had a great time living there. Chloe and I formed a strong bond," I explain as my parents beam while sitting on our tiny couch and Atticus studies me with an almost blank expression from the kitchen table. "That's wonderful, honey. We hoped you were getting to live a much better life," Mom says and Dad puts his arm over her shoulders. "What's your plan from now on," Dad asks and I look toward Atticis quickly before blushing. I still can't push our kiss from my mind. Every time I look at him I remember the feeling of having his warm lips on mine. I have no idea what his plans are, but mine are simple... Stay with him and help heal him. He needs me so that is where I will be... Next to him. Logan needed Chloe to become a good Alpha and my mate needs me to do the same. "I am goi
ATTICUS POV Adeline watches me with a small smirk tugging at her lips as we pace the hospital room. We have been like this ever since we returned from dropping Karina off at Logan's pack house. Our adrenaline won't settle down. We were terrified of meeting her parents and horrified by the way the pack responded to us. The trip back to Thurman did nothing to ease the turbulent emotions inside of us. We want to succeed as King and make our mate proud, but how can the past disappear for us to do that?"So her parents accepted you... A big bad Kincaid," Adeline jokes in a quiet voice and we grunt. They accepted us and they were caring toward us. They didn't fear our new form or place blame for Rupert's actions on us. They let us remain silent while we ate. Karina answered questions and we didn't have to talk to feel included in the conversation. Karina's father was the first older male we have ever felt safe around. Not even Patrick Thurman eased our senses like that male does. It'
KARINA POVHe looks so tranquil while he sleeps. Even the grayish tint to his skin and fangs peeking from under his top lip look innocent. His body is so big I can't see the twin-size bed underneath him, but that doesn't take away from the cuteness either. He is like a muscular mountain with the face of a handsome child. He snores slightly and I grin. He didn't fight me telling him to lay down in my bed like I thought he would. He simply did what I said and watched me for maybe a minute before passing smoothly out. I sit down at the little desk and lean my chin on my hand. He has been asleep for three hours so my chores are done, but I don't want to wake him yet. I want to let him rest for as long as I can. He deserves a peaceful slumber. I know from my hospital stay both he and Adeline have a hard time sleeping throughout the night without experiencing a nightmare. I sigh and glance toward my door. Chloe will be showing up here soon expecting to hear all about my picnic da
ATTICUS POV"Pack Thurman is truly beautiful, " Karina says sweetly as she looks around at the gorgeous landscape. I nod. My... Our mind is still reeling from the fact that Karina caught onto my internal dilemma with my/our identity. We didn't realize she was so observant. "It is well maintained. The workers here are well divided... I need to ask Logan if his Father wrote any of his methods down.... Kincaid Pack needs someone like Patrick Thurman as their Alpha. Not someone like me. I have no idea what I am doing," I/we say and Karina stops walking. "Stop doing that! Okay, I get it, Rupert made you do some bad things and you hate yourself for them. But you need to accept that those things happened. You did them to ensure your survival... And Adeline's survival. Move forward, damnit. Become the best version of you. Those assholes are all dead. You can read and learn all about what it takes to be a great Alpha. You need to became a great King. That's the best way to get back at all o
ATTICUS POV The thick wooden door practically groans as we knock once more. Our sensitive ears can hear Logan moving inside, but he isn't answering. Finally as we go to knock again the door swings open. Logan's face instantly goes from annoyed to surprised and then to apologetic. "I'm sorry. I am a little behind schedule. Come in, Atticus. What can I do for you," Logan says as he steps back and runs a hand down his stressed face. "I only need a moment of your time. The W.O.L.F agents I left in charge at Pack Kincaid have sent word that my house is finally finished. Karina and I will be leaving tomorrow," we say and then bite our lip. Hopefully Karina comes with me tomorrow. We haven't spoken with her yet. We decided to inform Logan first. What if Karina isn't ready? We will have to return without out her until she follows. "Oh, that's wonderful. I mean we are sorry to see the two of you go, but I know the pack over there needs you," Logan says as he sits down behind the big
ATTICUS POV "Wow, this is really nice," Karina says as she takes in the living room of the new Kincaid Packhouse. We have to admit the natural wood floors and leather furniture look wonderful in the large living room. The decorations are welcoming but don't make the space feel cramped. At least half the members could relax in the space at a time which is what we asked for. "Thank you, Future Queen. The pack members worked hard. They created large communal areas and rather moderate living quarters, per King Atticus's instructions. This floor has a thirty by twenty-two living room with a wood fireplace, a large kitchen with an island big enough to seat eight, a large formal dining room that can fit fifty, two small omega bedrooms, and a small bathroom situated between the bedrooms. Upstairs has three good-sized bedrooms, an office, a huge storage closet, and three bathrooms. Each area has been furnished in the same style as this room here. We felt it was warm but blank enough for
ATTICUS POV Easy. We can do this. Present the offer and leave if she refuses. If she becomes upset leave. Karina can speak with her if she becomes distraught. We can do this. We can do this. We raise our hand and knock on the weathered-looking door gently. It looks as if it could be blown off with a gentle breeze much less one of our full-blown knocks. Destroying her front door won't win her over. "Coming," a faint voice calls out. After about thirty seconds the aged door opens to reveal Mrs. Frost. A tall thinner woman with graying red hair and sharp brown eyes... The first widower on my list of possible omegas. Her welcoming expression drops as soon as she takes us in, but we keep our face neutral. She can have whatever opinion she wants. We expected nothing less. "May I help you, ...King," she asks reluctantly and we see the pull at her thin lips. At the age of fifty-five, Mrs. Frost is a good candidate for being an omega. She is past the age of having children and it
