Chapter 6

Xavier POV

It was Friday night and I was hanging out with Lauren in the main Alpha lounge. Each floor had its own lounge area, but the main floor had a couple lounges, a game room, a home theater, and a kitchen. Not that any of us Alphas cooked, but it was there if we wanted to try, or if any of the girls who were taking one of the elective cooking classes had a cooking project. I was in the main lounge with Lauren who had been increasingly getting on my nerves this year. She's had her sights set on being my girlfriend since freshman year, and last year I finally gave her the chance.

Things were good last year, we had a lot of fun together. Then summer break came. I don't know if the summer changed us or what, but now I found myself annoyed just being in her presence. My wolf, Lunar, had usually just retreated into the back of my mind whenever she was around, always mumbling about her not being our mate. He said her wolf Lena was just as annoying as she was, so he always disappeared. But these days he was doing less retreating, and more bugging me about getting away from her whenever she was around.

So, tonight I gave in and told her I was going to go for a run. Ofcourse she tried to come with, but I told her that Lunar wanted some alone time, and since no one ever argues with him, she gave up. So, we went out for a run, only we never actually got a chance to shift. I was walking towards the wooded trails when I heard the scream. It was just for a second, but Lunar immediately took over, pushing me to the side. That was the thing about having a powerful blessed wolf, he was able to do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. He could easily take control of my body, but since he was so chill and calm, he rarely did. But tonight when he heard the girl scream he took control to find her.

Once he was in full control though, our hearing was even better than my normal Alpha wolf hearing. We could hear her still trying to scream for help but it was being muffled, which really pissed Lunar off. He was always so calm and chill that I was nothing like the other Alphas. They were all emotional and quick to anger, but Lunar kept my emotions steady at all times, and could even use our aura to calm other wolves. But tonight he was livid, and I could feel my blood boiling from his rage. So he started following the sound into a wooded area that separated the paths of the main buildings to those of the ranked wolf dorms.

Then he caught her scent, mixed with fear, and if I thought I'd never seen him this angry before, well I was surprised at how much more angry he got. Our enhanced eyesight with him in control allowed us to see farther through the night than I usually could, and that's when we saw them. We saw her trying to fight him off, and I could feel Lunar's pride when she punched him in the throat before punching him in the face and then the chest. But when his wolf came forward Lunar jumped into action moving quickly and stealthily through the trees until we were right there infront of the wolf who I recognized as one of the Gammas who had been tormenting her. He had his arm back, ready to swing, but when he felt our aura he knew he'd been caught and froze.

Lunar made short work of grabbing him off of her, commanding him to stay far away from him and threatening him before throwing him several feet. Then he turned and asked her if she was OK. I watched as he stared at her curiously and I could hear the wheels turning in his mind as he watched her respond. I had liked her scent the day we met, it was what had made me sit down and hold a conversation with her. It was a sweet and fruity jasmine and lemon grass, but with Lunar in control and his senses being much better than mine, I could smell a hint of Grapefruit as well. It was a delectable smell and our mouth was watering from it.

But that wasn't what he was curious about, no, it was the way she was standing infront of us. Our aura could make some Alphas cower in our presence, but she, an Omega, was standing there talking as though she couldn't even feel the power of it. When I asked Lunar about it he didn't respond, he just released control of my body and retreated to the back of my mind. I realized I probably looked crazy, so I immediately struck up a conversation to cover up the fact that it was very obvious that I had no control over my all-powerful blessed Alpha wolf.

I insisted on walking her back to her dorm, which she was hesitant and nervous about. I knew it had something to do with her Alpha, Eddie. I had sensed that there was something between the two of them that very first day when he was furious that I had sat to talk to her. He played it off as though he was apologetic that she bothered me, but I could feel the jealousy coming off of him in waves. I told her that I wasn't judging their relationship, but I didn't tell her what was truly going through my mind. I didn't consider her a rank climber, but I truly hoped that she had formed the relationship she had with him so she could have more opportunities than her pack was known for providing their female omegas with, and not because she actually had feelings for him. The thought of her having feelings for him made Lunar snarl in the back of mind which I found incredibly odd, but I figured he had taken a liking to her just as I had, and didn't want her see her get her heart broken over an Alpha as worthless as him.

Once I made sure she made it inside the Omega dorm safely I decided to skip the run I had planned on taking and just go back to my room. Hopefully I would be able to avoid Lauren. I was too lost in my thoughts to deal with her constant neediness. It had been that way since I first sat down at that table last Friday. That petite little Omega girl was slowly invading her way into all of my thoughts. The thought made me smile as it seemed I had been invading hers as well. The air had become full of nervousness and embarassment as she told me she had been reading a book on blessed wolves in the library. But I had to hand it to her, she had done more to learn about what I was within a week of meeting me than I had done in the four years since Lunar woke up.

She was a naturally beautiful girl. Her bronzed skin was just slightly darker than mine, and I couldn't get the way it seemed to glow under the sunlight the day we had met out of my mind. The same with her long cascading coils. She had them in a bun tonight, but last Friday they had been pulled up into a high ponytail that had cascaded down her back. A few of her dark coils laid over shoulders, and as the light shined on them I would've sworn strands of her hair were actually sparkling. Though her skin was bronzed, she had patches of freckles around her chocolatey brown eyes and on the bridge of her nose. Yea, she was definitely beautiful, even though it was obvious that she had never even had her eyebrows done, and probably never even touched make up before. She seemed so innocent, though I'm sure growing up at Midnight Moon had made her anything but.

I made my way back to the Alpha dorm and snuck up the back steps to my dorm room. Luckily us Alphas didn't have to share rooms like the Omegas, Mid-Ranks, and Warriors. All of the ranked dorms were that way, simply because there were fewer of us than there were of the others. I decided to hop in the shower to see if I could some how wash off the events of tonight. How dare that Gamma boy touch her, let alone try to force himself on her. Lunar was grumbling in my mind about killing him, and I had to remind him that we had gotten there in time, and had actually gotten the chance to know her a little better even though she wasn't supposed to be around us. That made him even more angry, and though I couldn't understand what he was mumbling in the back of my mind, I could feel his irritation.

I finished showering and climbed into bed, my mind still racing with thoughts of the mysterious Omega beauty. There was definitely something weird about her, the way our aura hadn't phased her tonight was what had been bothering me the most, and I couldn't help but to wonder if Eddie had commanded her to stay away from us.
