Chapter 5 An Uneducated Country Bumpkin

In less than three days, Elizabeth had collected all the available information on Yvonne. Despite the minuscule amount of data, she was infuriated.

"The Jones family really didn't take us seriously! That woman isn't merely ugly; she didn’t even graduate from high school! She's just an uneducated country bumpkin!"

This time, Camille was speechless as well. Yvonne’s background and appearance were truly an insult to the Anderson family’s reputation.

Elizabeth slammed the table. "Let’s go right now! Get a few strong men and take that ugly woman with us! We're going to Miller Villa!"

Meanwhile, the Jones family at Miller Villa was unaware of the storm that was about to hit.

"Thomas, don’t you think that I gave you a good idea? I told you that the Anderson family's blind son wasn’t in a position to pick and choose. No matter who we send to them, they'll accept her willingly."

Monica was quite pleased with herself. "I even managed to keep Kayla safe. With her sharp mind and beauty, she'll definitely marry into a good family and support us."

Thomas gave her the side-eye but didn't comment. He'd been feeling restless for the past few days. Deep down, he felt that this matter wasn't going to be resolved easily.

However, there was still no news from the Anderson family. Could it be that, as Monica said, the Anderson family was willing to swallow this bitter pill?

Just as Thomas was starting to feel relieved, it was abruptly shattered by an unexpected guest. Seconds after the housekeeper reported their arrival, Elizabeth and her entourage barged into the living room.

She was utterly furious. "Thomas, you’d better give me a good explanation!"

Thomas spotted Yvonne being held hostage by the bodyguards, and a chill ran down his spine. He went forward in a hurry. "Mrs. Anderson Senior, what’s the meaning of this? Can't we talk this out?"

"I have nothing to talk to you about!" Elizabeth waved her hand, and the bodyguards immediately pushed Yvonne forward.

Staggering, Yvonne deliberately stumbled on the ground in front of Thomas. She covered her face with her hands, and her shoulders shook as if she were sobbing, but no one could see the suppressed smirk playing on her lips.

She'd been looking forward to this for ages!

"Thomas, you're really something. Just look at the kind of woman you sent to our family! Are you deliberately trying to insult me?" Elizabeth’s expression was livid. "That’s more than enough. Either you return the betrothal gifts or hand over Kayla to us! Otherwise, I will tear this place down!"

Seeing the situation getting out of hand, Monica stepped forward as well. "Mrs. Anderson Senior, did Yvonne do anything to offend you? She's still young..."

"Bah!" In her anger, Elizabeth couldn’t care less about etiquette. "Don't you dare push the blame onto her. It's obviously you two who deliberately cooked up this plan to mess with my family! Do you really think that I’m a confused old lady who can't tell right from wrong?"

"This..." Monica choked on her own saliva and turned to Thomas for help. They couldn't let Elizabeth take Kayla away. Thomas looked hesitant, still clueless about what to say.

Elizabeth lost her patience and ordered the bodyguards harshly, "Go, bring Kayla to me!"

In no time, two bodyguards brought Kayla to the living room. Kayla was struggling and screamed, "I would rather die than marry that blind man!"

Elizabeth gave her a loud slap on the cheek that made Kayla’s head spin.

"Who do you think you are? Since your father accepted our betrothal gifts, you now belong to the Anderson family! It seems that your parents failed to bring you up well, so I'll make sure you learn some discipline!" Elizabeth said, shaking with anger. "Even if Stephen's blind, you have no right to complain. With your dismal background, you should be grateful for this golden opportunity to be part of my family!"

"Mrs. Anderson Senior, let’s be frank now that things have come to this point of no return," Monica sneered sarcastically. "A blind man like Stephen is finally married, and to the only heiress of the Miller family too. They suit each other perfectly. Do you think you're in any position to complain?"
