Chapter Twenty-Four (2/2)

Kai isn’t kidding when he says he prepared something for them in the greenhouse. There is a small round table decorated with vines along the legs and flower petals scattered on the ground. The table is filled with pastries and steamed plates, the sun glinting off the glasses.

It’s like a scene straight out of a fairytale painting, something she might see in one of the many books Harbin had her looking at. She feels as if she is being treated like a princess despite her plain attire of a white cotton shirt and black-dyed silk pants, still, clothes she never imagined herself wearing but nothing close to what a princess or royalty would ever wear.

Kai is the perfect gentleman by pulling her chair out and pushing her in, making sure all her utensils are safe to use and testing her food before she can touch it. Once he is satisfied with everything he takes a seat across from her with a timid smile.
