Fast forward 5 years
“Matthew!” My beautiful wife called out.
I followed the sound of her voice and questioned from the doorway, “Yes, dear?”
Emma let out an exasperated sigh as she held her growing belly, “Where is our daughter? She disappeared on me.” She was fixing her makeup and steadying her nerves at a pop-up vanity that Isabella had brought by for her.
“I think she may have run off with Isaac again, I’ll go look for her,” I turned away and began walking around the shop calling for her, “Stephanie!”
Today is the grand opening for Claudette Reed, Emma’s own store. Being the wife of a successful fashion CEO has some perks, and one of them is getting your name out there and having a lot of people to support you.
Our daughter, Stephanie, was now four years old and the most mischievous little thing – she definitely takes after me, she even has my bright green eyes.
Steph and Isaac were the best of friends, and she called Isabe

Outside was so dark that I couldn’t tell if it was morning or night anymore. Why do interviews always have to be so early in the morning? If the sun isn’t up, I shouldn’t be, simple as that.My alarm went off and I groaned as I looked at the clock to see it’s 5:30 AM, the bed this morning seems to be exceptionally warm for some reason. It’s probably because I have to get up and my bed is begging me to stay, or maybe it has something to do with that large figure lying beside me.Did I bring him home last night? I pulled the covers up and noticed that I’m still entirely naked. Christ, what happened last night? I never bring guys home! I closed my eyes tight and hoped the next time I open them I will wake differently. No luck.I remember that I was feeling anxious for my interview and my friend and roommate Kay took me out for some drinks to clear my head, other than that, my memory of the night is foggy. The alarm sounded
I went out last night to find a one-night-stand, and clearly, was successful in my mission. My last assistant quit after she found out that I slept with her sister, so I have to interview for a new one.The stress of the office has been getting to me, which is why I went out in search of an easy land last night. Usually, I find a girl and take her home, ‘get in, get off, get out,’ was my motto when it came to women, and it seemed like last night was no different, except that evidently, I missed the ‘get out’ step.I don’t drink too often, so when I do, it hits me hard. I don’t remember much about last night but looking at this brunette beauty standing tall and proud in front of me, I landed one hell of a looker. She had only a towel wrapped around her, slightly hiding her curves from me, but if my fuzzy memory serves me correctly, she had some nice ones that she showed off in that little dress last night. Her hair was w
I was lucky to get that creature, however beautiful he was, out of my apartment in time for me to get ready and to the office in time for the interview. I changed into my pencil skirt and red blouse quickly and dried my hair before pulling it into a side ponytail, hiding the hickey left there that was darkening by the minute.I spritzed myself with my perfume and slipped on my flats and grabbed my bag before heading out the door. I never have any issue catching a cab here, in fact, I have made friends with a good number of them and they know me by name. The cabbie pulled up to the office building and I had a good twenty minutes left until my interview was scheduled for, so I decided to meander and take my time, looking at the beautiful architecture and design of the building. The front had one of those revolving doors that always gives me a tinge of anxiety when I approach it, along with the two regular doors on either side, and the front area with the bell desk
She was snarky, and I was totally turned on. I could absolutely tell why I chose this girl last night, she’s a fun one, and we were going to have a lot of fun together. My last assistant, I slept with, but I also slept with her younger sister, and so she quit. The few assistants that I’ve had before that, all of them I’ve landed, and all of them left because they fell for me and I’m not about that, and I’ve already had a night with Emma, so I guess this makes it four for four.Might as well hire her, if I’ve slept with her already, she will probably be an easy land in the coming time, and then she will think she’s in love with me and quit when I turn her down, it seems to be a cycle here. I give the girl a year.I cleared my throat, remembering my thought this morning, “I apologize, for earlier,” she looked at me and tilted her head slightly, was she playing dumb like we didn’t wake up in the same bed t
He left the conference room and I felt like I needed another shower after being near him. He’s not even a man, he’s a creature of unknown origin that is determined to make me feel bad for an action that he had an equal play in.I quickly let my hair down and draped it over my neck to hide the hickey there. The disgusting creature, wanting me to flaunt it for everyone else here to see. What good would that do? Would it show everyone that he’s had me? Was he trying to claim me somehow? Or did he just simply get off by making a fool out of me?Either way, I will not give him that satisfaction. I gathered my things and walked out of the conference room to the receptionist's desk to speak with Mindi about what is expected of me tomorrow. She informed me of the dress code and some of the rules that Mr. Greene has in place here for his workers.“Since you are going to be his assistant, you don’t need to know too much else other than
“Tell me everything,” Kay said as she put her elbows on the breakfast bar and rested her chin on her hands, emphasizing the word ‘everything.’Kay, my best friend, and roommate is the most free-spirited person you will ever know. She’s got rich red hair, hazel eyes, a petite figure, and a killer smile. We met in grade school and have been best friends ever since. She’s got the behavior of a little kid and the mouth of a sailor.I told her about the dress code and how magnificent the building is, along with how kind everyone else seemed, besides the creature that I would be working for, of course.“He called me a whore.”“What?!” She sat upright.“Twice.”“Double what?!”I laughed at her, “He apologized for it, but then he mentioned me sitting on his lap and things went downhill from there.”Kay was eating her cereal listening to me l
I didn’t have much to do in the office today, and since the interview was over, that was my only real meeting of the day, so I decided to go home and make some breakfast and take a nap. I was too distracted by my imagination in the office, seeing her so clearly as if she stood directly in front of me, I couldn’t focus on my work at all.I needed to clear my head, and I was still slightly hungover from last night, so I think a nap would be nice right about now as well.I walked right into the building with my key card and went directly to the elevators to get to my floor. There was never any elevator music here, and while every now and then I would get into an elevator and think to myself ‘this music sucks,’ I kind of missed having music here in the apartment building. It made it awkward when there was another person in the elevator with you, it was utter silence if you didn’t know the other person or weren’t making small talk
It’s the morning of my first day, and I’m laying here in bed with my new sheets rolling around not wanting to get up.I don’t have to be there until 7 and my alarm was still set for 5:30, so I decided to snooze it a few times and use that time to will myself to get up and get dressed. I showered twice yesterday, and something tells me that I’m going to feel the need to shower after work today, so I’m skipping it this morning.I drifted in and out of consciousness for a good while until I saw that it was now 6 and I needed to get up.Dressing for a job at a designers office, you’d think it would be difficult because you would want to look as fashionable as ever and make a good impression all the time, but not for Greene Designs; the CEO had a dress code that we all had to follow so to not “cloud his vision.” I snorted at the thought, the man had an ego the size of Manhattan. My closet only had one pencil skir
