My head was banging,

My lungs ached, and confusing images wouldn't stop replaying in my head.

In that fire, while I had been looking for Ferrara, tears running down my cheeks as I held our son, I could have sworn that I had seen Alistair Jung,

Just as I would have bet on my life, that he had saved me from that fire,

Saved us.

Sounds of beeping machines surrounded me, my patched throat empty as I struggled to say something, anything.

"Doctor, she's opening her eyes."

At the sound of that, I parted my eyes sharply, a sudden pain slamming into my head as I took in the lights and the hospital bed.

Hospital?

What of my son, and...Ferrara?

But before I could speak, a doctor walked into the room with a kind smile in his eyes.

"Ms. Petrov, wow, we didn't expect you to wake up this fast after all the smoke you injected into your body."
