Usually, after I was done with cooking for the Alpha’s family, I would dish the food unto the plates, and I would have to stand by whenever Alpha Barak and his family members were eating, and until the last person on the table finished their meal, I mustn’t leave the dining room. Menelik was a slow eater, I guess he often deliberately eat slowly, to make sure I wait on him for some extra minutes. It was crystal clear that Menelik was my biggest adversary.When he was finally done with his meal, I heaved a sigh of relief and I started to pack the used plates and utensils onto a tray. I was caressing my cheeks with an ointment that the nurse gave me. The ointment helped suppress the dreadful pains, that was oozing out of my head. Overall, my mind was at peace, and I loved it. I just wanted to enjoy my little euphoria while it lasts.For the first time in a long time, I was far away from the Alpha’s chamber, and Menelik’s stiff face, which haunts me just by looking at it. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way, and henceforth, I’ll try my best not to look at his face, at all. “Hey, Calista.” I heard a strong masculine voice behind me, and I immediately hid my ointment. I ran up the stairs as fast as my legs could carry me, panting and gasping for air. My heart was pounding in my chest, and I could feel the adrenaline gushing through my veins. I had no idea where I was going, I just knew that I had to get far away from Menelik.I let my emotions take over me, and until I heard a loud growl from afar, it didn’t even occur to me that I had just carried out a fool’s errand. Bursting out of Menelik’s presence with anger, was a risky move on its own, not to even mention disobeying his order. Although Menelik was not yet the Alpha, he commanded respect from everyone in the pack; no one dared to defy his orders. The moment, the warriors laid my body to rest in the sacred forest, a grand staircase appeared before me, and I automatically ascended upwards. It wasn’t a matter of choice, I guess this was my new chapter.The stairs led, to the top of the biggest structure that I have ever seen in my life. The structure was atop the moon. I was stopped at the entrance and I couldn’t move any further. I couldn’t help but exude awe and astonishment as I made my way up the stairs. I had never seen anything like the edifice in front of me. As far as the eye could see, it appeared to be a ship that has no end.As I got closer to the enormous building, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was embellished with elaborate carvings and decorations, and it appeared to be made of some kind of glittering metal. I tried to open my eyes, and I was still hit by an array of lights, then I instinctively shut my eyes in an effort to drown out the overwhelming stimuli. But I soon realized, from the inside of my eyelid, that there has been a change in my environment. I inhaled deeply before slowly opening my eyes once more, and I was able to concentrate this time around. Then, I found myself at the Lakewood pack clinic. I was surprised to find myself here, in the same room, where care was administered to me when Menelik disfigured my face with ceramic shards, but the difference between now and then, was that I didn’t feel any pain on any part of my face or my body. LATER THAT NIGHTMalik is tall, handsome, and also haughty-looking at the same time, his angular face seemed designed to intimidate, and as much as you’d have guessed, he was ripped and well-built with muscles bulging out of every possible part of his body.
