Chapter 7: Get rid of the baby

Samantha stood up immediately after she said this and she headed to the store to get a pregnancy test. She did so as fast as she could and she returned to Kiandra.

“Here, I bought two, so we can be sure,” she said, handing over the packages to Kiandra. “Now go use it!” she urged her friend.

Kiandra felt her heart pounding in her chest as she walked into the bathroom. She desperately prayed to be wrong about being pregnant.

She couldn’t even take care of herself. How was she supposed to take care of a baby? There was no way she would be a good mother to the child.

On getting to the toilet, she tore open the packet and followed the instructions written on it. Meanwhile,.Samantha anxiously waited for Kiandra to come out and tell her what was happening.

The door opened after ten minutes, and Kiandra came out. Samantha quickly rushed to her. “Well, what did it say?” she asked.

“That I’m pregnant,” Kiandra answered in a distant voice as she was still trying to come to terms with reality, and Samantha gasped in horror as her worst nightmare had just come to pass.

“Are you sure? Maybe there’s a mistake. I mean, these things can’t be trusted. Maybe…” Samantha started to mumble.

“The two kits say I’m pregnant,” Kiandra informed Samantha. She then walked over to the bed and sat on it.

“What are you going to do now?” she asked Kiandra.

“Can you leave me alone? I need some time to process this and think of what to do next,” Kiandra requested.

“Sure, I’m a call away if you need anything,” Samantha said, and she left the room. As soon as she was all alone, Kiandra crawled to the pillows and she covered herself up.

She chuckled at how unlucky she was. There were so many girls who had sex multiple times and she just had to be the one to get pregnant from a one-night stand.

She had just finished high school and had luckily gotten a scholarship due to her high grades. Now was the perfect time to get pregnant. She thought sarcastically to herself.

Was she supposed to get rid of the baby? No, she couldn’t do that to an innocent child. It wasn’t the baby’s fault that she and Lucas slept with each other. But at the same time, she would just be punishing the baby by bringing it into the world.

She had no job and no means of taking care of the baby, but she couldn’t kill her own child. Doing so would make her like her mother. Her hand went down to her stomach and she rubbed it.

A child was growing in there, and it brought a smile to her face. ‘I’m sorry that you had to get stuck with me,’ she said, and tears started to fall from her face. She suddenly sat up as she realized something.

This wasn’t her child alone. She had to inform Lucas that she had conceived. But how was she going to do it? He had gone back home and he didn’t give her his number.

She turned and grabbed her phone. She started searching through the internet, wanting to see if there was a way she could contact him. There was however, no way she could directly contact him.

Just as she was about to give up, she noticed that he had a social media account. Without wasting time, she created an account so she could talk to him.

She immediately clicked on it and went to his DM.

“Good evening, Mr Valencia, this is Kiandra. The girl you slept with at one of your hotels. I had no intention of ever contacting you, but something huge has come up. I’m pregnant with your child and I don’t know what to do with it. Please tell me what you think I should do with the baby.”

Kiandra read the message before hitting send. Hopefully, he would respond as soon as possible because she was utterly confused as to what to do.

Kiandra got up to leave the room when her phone vibrated. She turned and picked up her phone and to her surprise, she saw that it was Lucas who responded. ‘That was fast,’ she muttered to herself.

She quickly opened the message and the smile on her face changed when she read the message. “I do not want a child as I hate children and even if I wanted one, it wouldn't be from a lowlife like you. Get rid of it or I’ll do it for you and also, never try to contact me again.”

As soon as Kiandra finished reading the message, she noticed that Lucas had blocked her. No, she had read wrong. There was no way Lucas had asked her to get rid of the baby like it wasn’t his blood. Was he that cruel, even to his own?

She quickly grabbed her jacket and headed out of the house. “Kiandra, where are you going?” Samantha asked.

“I’ll be back soon,” Kiandra told Samantha, and she headed out of the house. She took a cab to her mother’s house and on getting there, she entered without knocking.

“You! How dare you come back here?” May yelled in anger when she saw her daughter.

“You should be falling at my feet, thanking me for not pursuing a case against you,” Kiandra said coldly. She had given up on getting her mother’s love, and all she wanted was to get what she came there for.

“You don’t expect me to say thank you for that,” May scoffed.

“Honestly, knowing you, I don’t expect anything from you,” Kiandra answered. “I want money,” she told her mother.

“You must be a fool to think I would give you any money,” May scoffed.

“No, you’re not a fool, but if you want to stay out of at least twenty years in prison for torturing a child, I suggest you give me what I’m asking for,” Kiandra threatened.

“If you try to harm me, I promise you it will be the last thing you’ll ever do before you’re locked away for a long time,” she said when she saw May advancing dangerously towards her.

Now that she was pregnant, she couldn’t take any chances. “I want money and you’re going to give it to me. You know, I wonder what the police would say if they knew about the man you killed and buried five years ago,” Kiandra continued to dig up her mother’s dirty secret.

“How much do you want?” May quickly asked, as she knew she was cornered.

“Ten thousand dollars,” Kiandra answered.

“Are you crazy? Where do you expect me to see ten thousand dollars?” May asked Kiandra in disbelief.

“From the eleven thousand dollars you won two days ago at the casino,” Kiandra answered. “Oh, come on, mom, you didn’t think I wouldn’t find out. And besides, I’m not as evil as you, as I’m leaving you with one thousand dollars.”

“You cursed child!” May flared up.

“Here is the account you are to transfer the money to,” Kiandra said, bringing a piece of paper out. “You have two minutes before the evidence of all your crimes gets sent out to the police.”

“How can you do this to your mother?” May asked, trying to emotionally blackmail Kiandra.

“One minute and fifty five seconds,” Kiandra counted down.

“Alright!” May picked up her phone and got to work. “Here it’s done. Now get out of my house!” she said.

“I hope you or that asshole of yours won’t try to do anything stupid,” Kiandra warned, and she walked out of the house, hoping that it would be the last time she would ever see her mother.

As soon as she left, she headed to the hospital and went to the nurse, who was seated behind the desk. “I’d like to get an abortion done,” she said.

“Here, fill this and wait for your turn.” The nurse replied, handing her a form. Kiandra filled it, and she went to sit in the waiting area. If the baby’s father wasn’t ready to take responsibility for the baby, then there was no point in keeping the baby.

As she sat waiting for her name to be called, a lot of thoughts ran through her mind. Was this really how she was going to kill her baby was the question she kept on asking herself.

She was about to take a life. How would she be able to live the rest of her life knowing she had killed an innocent child?

After what felt like ages, she heard her name being called. She stood up to follow the nurse, but after taking a few steps, she stopped abruptly.

The nurse stopped when she saw that the girl wasn’t following her anymore. “Is there a problem?” she asked.

“Yes, I’m sorry. I can’t kill my baby,” Kiandra said. Saying this, she turned and ran out of the hospital. She couldn’t believe that she actually thought of killing her child.

Even if the father didn’t want his child, she wasn’t going to kill her baby. She would work hard and raise him up. She looked down at her tummy and rubbed it. ‘I promise to love you even though your father doesn’t.’

Taking a deep breath, she called a cab back home. When she arrived home, she noticed that everywhere was dark. Samantha and Nana couldn’t have possibly gone to sleep as it was just after nine o’clock, especially as she was out of the house.

Just as she turned to switch on the lights, she felt herself being pushed to the ground. Out of newborn instincts, she turned and fell on her side. ‘Ahh!” She groaned in pain and lost consciousness.

She woke up ten minutes later to find her and Samantha tied up. “Where’s Nana?” Kiandra asked in worry when she didn’t see the old woman.

“She went to the store a few minutes after you had left,” Samantha answered, and Kiandra heaved a sigh of relief. Nana was an old woman with a heart condition and being in this situation could have triggered a heart attack, which wouldn’t be good.

“Oh, look at you, caring for others while your life is in danger,” she heard a man say. Looking up, she found a man with a mask on his face hovering over her. “Who are you and what do you want?” she asked.

“Who I am doesn’t matter,” the man answered. “And well, what I want is to kill your baby,” he told Kiandra, much to her horror.

“Why would you want to do that when I don’t even know you,” Kiandra asked while trying to think of a way out of the situation she was in, as she didn’t want the man to kill her child.

“Because someone doesn’t want that child to be born and well, you didn’t go ahead with the abortion you had intended to do,” the man answered and he brought out a knife.

“Please don’t do this. She’ll get an abortion if that’s what you want,” Samantha pleaded desperately, as if the man stabbed Kiandra, not only the baby would die but she would as well.

“Too late. She had her chance, but she ran away from it. Now, I’ll have to make sure that the baby dies,” the man said and he advanced with the knife. Kiandra immediately started to back away.

“Stop, please,” she begged when her back hit a wall. The man grabbed her by the collar and lifted her up. Kiandra was stuck between a rock and a hard place as she couldn’t struggle for fear of accidentally harming her baby but if she didn’t struggle, this man would kill her baby.

The man drew his hand backward to stab her but before he could, something hit the back of his head. When he turned, he saw that it was Samantha who had broken a vase on his head.

“You bitch!” he cursed and he turned his attention to Samantha, who ran into the kitchen. Kiandra quickly looked around and she saw another vase. Not wasting any time, she grabbed it and smashed it on the man’s head.

The man turned and used the back of his hand to hit her. The force was so much that Kiandra lost her balance and her stomach hit the edge of the kitchen countertop.

She immediately felt a sharp pain in her stomach, which made her drop to the ground. “Kia!” Samantha yelled, and the man laughed.

“Looks like my job here is done,” Saying this, the man pushed Samantha away and he fled the house.
