Chapter 12: Fired from her job

“Daira,” Liam exclaimed and he moved to hug her much to her displeasure. “I’ve missed you so much,” he said, and she squinted her eyes suspiciously at him.

“You did?” she asked.

“Of course. I have no other bimbo to trouble in my life and so naturally, I’d miss the only one I have,” Liam responded, and he watched as Daira became red with anger.

“Lucas,” she cried as she walked up to him. Lucas, who didn’t want to be touched by Daira, turned and went to sit down.

This was one of the reasons Lucas concluded that Liam hated her. To every other person, she acted rude to them but to him, she acted like she was a damsel in distress who couldn't protect herself.

Liam despised two-faced people and so he always tried to bring out her real nature in front of Lucas.

“Ignore him. He’s annoying,” Lucas said and Liam chuckled.

“Tell him to go. I have something important to discuss with you,” Daira told Liam.

“Well, you better get talking, as I’m not going anywhere,” Liam said as he made himself comfortable on the couch.

Daira turned to Lucas looking for help, but he didn’t look like he cared about Liam’s presence. Seeing that Lucas wasn’t ready to say anything about Liam, Daira had no choice but to go ahead.

“My family wants to know which day next month you would like to have the engagement party.”

They had only agreed to get married but no formal ceremony had been done as Lucas always found an excuse to get out of it.

“I’ll let you know once I’m free. Anything else?” Lucas asked.

Daira bit her lips. She had come there hoping that Lucas and she could get intimate, but who knew that the asshole would be there?

“If there’s nothing, you can go,” Lucas said as he stood up.

“But,” Daira started. However, she was cut short by Lucas, who walked up to her and gave her a quick kiss to shut her up.

“I’ll see you some other time,” and with that, he left the room, leaving her alone with Liam. not wanting to be annoyed further, she quickly left.

After Daira left, the door to the study opened and Liam saw Lucas walk in.

“Why haven’t you called off the whole arranged marriage?” Liam asked after Lucas returned to his study. “It’s clear you don’t love her, which is why you let me get away with my behaviour towards her.”

“I promised the old hag I would get married to her, and I have no intention of breaking my promise,” Lucas replied.

“Promises are meant to be broken, especially this one. Daira is just a dumb and immature girl. How you haven’t snapped at her is something I’m still trying to understand, considering how short-tempered you are,” Liam retorted.

“I have a meeting tomorrow and I need to get some rest,” Lucas said, and he immediately left the room.

‘I’ll find out your reason for not yet calling off the marriage one day, and when I do, it’s going to be game over for you and Daira.’

Kiandra woke up the next day and she got herself ready for her job and Zendaya ready for daycare. “Be a good girl and mummy will reward you,” Kiandra said to her daughter when they reached the daycare.

“I don’t want to go, mummy,” Zendaya said in a whisper to Kiandra.

“I know you don’t want to but try to understand mummy has to work to feed you and buy you dolls,” Kiandra tried to explain to Zendaya.

“Will you stay with me if I don't want dolls anymore?” Zendaya asked, and her question made Kiandra chuckle at her innocence.

“You’ll love it here,” Kiandra assured her daughter as she handed her over to the woman in charge. The look on Zendaya’s face was a sad one, but she would have to learn that mummy wasn’t always going to be around here.

“Bye,” Kiandra waved at Zendaya, who didn’t wave back as she was angry at being left alone.

Kiandra quickly took a taxi to her workplace, and she managed to make it in time. After being directed to her boss’ office, she knocked on it.

“Come in,” she heard the man say, and she opened the door. When she got inside, she found another man sitting down and talking to her boss.

“Good morning, sir,” she greeted while trying to see who the man was as she made her way over to her boss.

“Good morning, Miss Aidan,” her boss replied. When Kiandra finally got to where the man was, she gasped internally upon seeing Lucas Valencia in the seat.

She knew there was something strange about the blond hair, but she was hoping it wouldn’t be him.

Did he figure out who she was? Did he know that she had a daughter for him? Was that why he was here?

“Good morning, sir,” she greeted him without letting herself slip. He turned and looked at her without any expression on his face.

“And who may this be?” Lucas asked the man seated in front of him. He recognized the woman to be the mother of the girl from the park. ‘What a small world,’ he thought to himself.

“She is my new assistant,” came her boss’ answer.

“Fire her!” Lucas said, shocking the remaining two in the room.

“Excuse me but are you insane?” Kiandra asked, not caring if she was being rude.

Lucas didn’t bother to answer her. Instead, he fixed his attention on the boss. “If you want this deal which could skyrocket your company’s earnings to continue, then fire her, or you can consider yourself my enemy,” he said to her.

That wasn’t a tough decision for the man to make. A nobody compared to someone who was one of the most influential men? “You’re fired,” he said to Kiandra.

“What?! Are you really firing me?” she asked.

“Yes,” her boss or rather ex-boss answered. “Leave before I call security.”

“Why did you ask him to fire me?” she asked Lucas. “What did I do to you?!” she cried out when he didn’t speak.

“You have ten seconds to leave before I call security to come and drag you out,” her ex-boss said.

“Not until this asshole tells me what I did wrong!” Kiandra flared up, not caring about anything anymore. The man immediately picked up the telephone and asked for security.

“Tell me what I did wrong, Lucas Valencia, for you to take this job away from me after a year of searching for it?” Kiandra continued to probe him.

Lucas, meanwhile, sat in his position unbothered by Kiandra’s scream, and this infuriated her the most. Why was this bastard hell-bent on ruining her?

First, he tried to kill her daughter, and now he got her fired from the job she wanted to use to take care of Zendaya.

The door opened and two hefty men walked into the room. “Drag this woman out!” her ex-boss ordered the man.

“I’ll go out by myself,” Kiandra said before either of the two men could lay a finger on her. “You’ll regret this one day, Lucas Valencia,” Kiandra swore to him.

Lucas finally reacted as he chuckled. He had heard that countless times, and so far, nothing had happened to him. What did this puny little thing think she could do to him? It would be fun watching her try.

“Till then,” Lucas said, and Kiandra glared at him. “Why not leave before they drag you out?” he mocked her further.
