Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Linda's POV

As he stepped out of the room, my body went numb.

This must have been a joke.

Barney loved me. He wouldn't leave me. He wouldn't say all of those things —he only said them because... A must have been tired.

My brain was having a battle. A part of me knew all what Barney said was true but the other side of me defended it.

Barney was the only man who stood by me when the world rejected me. He loved me when no one else could.

I shook my head and wiped the tears from my eyes. "He was just tired," I whispered to myself.

I sat down by the door, on the floor, and decided to wait for him. My love would bring him back.

I sat here for the rest of the night. Barney didn't return.

The next day I took a shower and dressed up, hoping he would return but he didn't.

This continued for the duration of our honeymoon but I remained optimistic. He would return to me.

On the last day, a knock resonated on the door and I quickly went to check hoping he had returned but it was only the driver.

"Hello, ma'am, I am here to take your bags to the car. Mr. Williams already left," the driver said.

"He left?" I squeaked.

"Yes, ma'am." The driver stepped into the room and took the bag from I had just parked.

I tried to look into his face to see if he was hiding something. Maybe this was a prank. Maybe everything that had happened in the last couple of days was a prank.

"Excuse me," I said walking towards him but he picked up the bags and walked past me.

"Yes ma'am," he replied but he didn't stop.

I was forced to trail after him. "What's going on? What is happening?"

We got to the elevator and I noticed that he was trying to avoid my face. He couldn't look me in the eye.

I took a step closer to him and held him by the collar. "What is fucking going in? Why does my husband keep sending you to me?" I snapped out in frustration.

I have been trying to keep it all in for so long and now I had no patience left. I needed answers.

"I am sorry ma'am, I am only doing my job. I don't know anything," he said with his eyes fixed on the elevator's floor.

I could understand that he was only following instructions but all of these were driving me crazy. Barney shouldn't have been the one to do all of these things to me.

My eyes turned glassy and my throat felt constricted. I had a feeling he wouldn't be in the house either. I would be alone again.

"Where is Barney, please?"

The driver raised his eyes and I saw my pain reflect in his eyes. He gritted his teeth and I felt his muscles tense under my touch.

"He is in his house."

My hands dropped from his collar and my heart stopped beating. The agreement we had was that we were going to live in the new apartment we got.

Not his house.

What was he doing in his house?

"Take me there," I ordered the driver but he quickly raised his eyes to meet mine.

"I am sorry ma'am but the instruction was to take you to the apartment by the seaside and not his apartment." He explained.

I raised my hands and dropped them over my head. I was truly in a mess.

The tears I was trying so hard to stop from falling, spilled down my cheeks.

"Please," I said clutching the driver by the hand. "Please I know this is important for you... It is your job but please if you do this for me, I will never forget, please... Take me there."

The driver stared at me. He didn't say anything he just looked into my eyes as if contemplating if he should help me or not.

The elevator dinged at that moment and my hope cracked.

"I will take you there," came his reply.

"Thank you," I whispered wiping the tears from my eyes.

He picked up the bag and walked out of the elevator. This time, he brought a black Bentley car.

We made our way to the car and after putting the bag in the booth, the driver joined me in the car and we drove out of the hotel parking lot.

"What's your name?" I asked as we got to the road.

"Steve," He said with his focus on the road.

We didn't exchange any other words till he stopped at Barney's house. He parked outside the gates and I stepped out to make my way on foot.

The security at the entrance were surprised to see me but no one stopped me.

I pushed the doors open and the maids froze as they saw me. They couldn't even greet me and I feared something was terribly wrong.

My heart started beating as I hurried through the house to the stairs.

"Miss Linda," the chief maid finally regained her voice as she ran behind me.

I was mid-way through the stairs and I turned to look at her but I didn't stop.

"What?" I didn't mean to sound found but my voice had a mind of its own.

"You can't go in there, ma'am..." She said shaking her head like there was a ghost in the room ahead.

"Why?" I queried as I took the final bend to his room.

"Aah..." I heard the sound and my legs paused as my brain made a flip.

I turned to the maid with raised brows. "What's going on?" My voice had dropped to a whisper.

"Please, you don't want to see what is going on in there..." The maid said but the sound resonated louder in the corridor.

"Barney baby!"

It wasn't even the fact that there were moaning sounds coming from Barney's room that broke me, it was the fact that I recognized the female voice.

"Yes! Ooh fuck yes..."

No, it couldn't be her.

My hands were shaking by the time I got to the room and pushed the door open.

My worst fears came to life.

"Susan!"

My heart exploded and turned cold all at once. I didn't know what to feel.

My half sister was on the bed with my husband, having sex!
