Chapter 8

Chapter 8.

Her skin radiated under the scorching sun like a mirror kept directly under the sun. And her hair fell back on her denuded body, the people that passed by, eyed her suspiciously.

She lay face down and soon regain consciousness, trying to stand up, she loll on the bare ground and tried flickering her eyes, only to be welcomed by the greeting of the glittering sun, so she reflexly closed her eyes as she felt warm fingers on her skin.

She heard distant chattering but couldn't pick what they were saying as it only sounded like an echo to her.

"Is she alive?" A strange voice came, and she couldn't tell who has it.

"Yeah, I think so" Another said. Cora tried to restrain them from taking her, but she was too weak to resist.

"Come on!" She heard them speak to each other but faintly as she gave in to the surging weakness, closing her eyes as they finally whisked on a stretcher.

She tried to protest but her voice was more like a whisper and the sun was seriously blinding her eyes, she gave in reluctantly as she was taken away on the stretcher, straight to the car awaiting them on the road.

"Cora! Cora!" She heard Cee's faint voice as she swiveled on the bed restlessly.

"Hey, Cora! You've got to wake up!" Her voice came again as she struggled and came out of the deep slumber.

The light in the room was too much for her as she flickered her lashes severally and struggled to sit up.

She sat on the bed and took her time to examine the new environment she was in, which was typically bizarre to her.

She was used to the fortress, enclosed by the big woods in the wolfdom.

She gazed at the empty room that had just a single bed on which she was lying. The room was all white and there was nothing much in it, except the single bed, and some cameras in hidden places, which she knew nothing about.

A faint odor suddenly hit her nostrils which made her sulk.

"Humans!" She mumbled lowly under her breath and sucked in air.

She looked down at her body and saw that they had clothed her in a baggy blue gown which she was not proud of.

"At least, we are not naked" Cee said to lighten up her mood as she was still taking time to survey the new environment. And she wasn't impressed with the human world.

"Look who is finally awake"

A voice came from the room as she rose her head and gaped in the voice's direction.

There she saw a tall, lean man with a rounded face, narrow nose, and a thin set of lips. He smiled at her the way a mother would smile at her baby that did something nice and took his time to observe her.

Cora felt his muscles were not heavily built enough and his eyes were too big for his round face as she scrutinized him closely.

He wore blue pants and a shirt that would pass for a pajama with a stethoscope around his neck. He held a notebook in which he was scribbling down some words with a permanent marker.

She ignored him and looked at the IV fluid connected to her left wrist and fretted instantly. She held it and was about to drag it off when the placid voice came again.

"Ah ah ah, I wouldn't do that if I were you"

The voice was close to her this time, which made her look up and saw the lean figure walking toward her. The scent of the human hit her nostrils again, making her groan in disgust and look elsewhere.

He took out a penlight from his pocket as she eyed it awfully and gawked at him as she would gawk at a big spider that just perched in her bathtub.

"Don't worry, I don't bite" he said with the most soothing voice after observing her sudden change of expression.

Cora was convinced that he was the gentle type based on the way he spoke to her, so she allowed him to examine her eyes, which she found weird.

With a satisfying smile spread across his lips, he returned the penlight to his pocket and heaved a sigh.

Moving with great strides, he strode to the fluid bag and examined it. When he was satisfied, he returned to her and flashed a smile at her.

"Hello, my name is Joseph, and I am your nurse for today. But I'd like to be called Joe. What should I call you, please?" He asked, stretching out his right hand to her which she looked at without touching it, then she looked up at him and met that dazzling smile.

He felt intimidated at how she was looking at him, and a shiver ran down his spine. Despite that, he felt she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen with her hair so long and her skin as white as a cloud.

He surmised if she would have a nice bath, nice hairdo, and remarkable makeover with the right outfit, she could be one of the most beautiful girls in the world.

"Do you remember what your name is or where you come from?" He implored again but she maintained gaping at him without saying a word.

He had dealt with patients with more difficulty than what Cora was displaying, so he knew how to stay patient and handle her.

"We found you lying on the road next to the hospital" He stopped and studied her, when he saw her face was expressionless, he continued.

"A few days ago, a few patients escaped from the hospital. I don't know if you are one, because we have gone through the files but couldn't find a picture that suits you or a description of any missing person in town or the hospital"

When she still said nothing and was just staring at him, he almost freaked out. But he comported himself and proceeded soothingly talking to her.

"What do you think?" Cee spoke as Cora tried to keep her face expressionless.

"He looked calm but malnourished. Are you sure he is going to help me?" She asked her wolf's side.

"I can't tell until we ask. Besides, he seemed nice. It wouldn't bite if we ask, right?"

"Yeah, I think so" She replied.

Joe kept talking and was constantly flashing her a smile. She pretended to be engrossed in what he was saying as he continued.

"I will help you in any way I can if you would help me by answering most of my questions. I don't think an amnesia__"

"Do you say you would help me?" She spoke for the first time and he was taken aback by the effect her steel voice had on her.

She looked so domineering and her piercing gaze made him uneasy and his palms sweaty.

"Yes... Yes, I'll help you if you_"

"Good" she said and ripped the IV fluid connected to her wrist.

"Hey, I don't think that is_"

"Sh..." She said, and he found himself obeying her command without objections.

"My name is Cora Creed, luna of Mountain Howl Pack" she explained as he looked at her with his face expressionless, but deep down, he was freaking out.

"And I really do need your help" she added as he saw her eyes glittered and her pupils changed color.

He couldn't tell if it was him imagining things or if this lady's eyes were actually like a blaze of fire.
