I held my breath as l watched Damien continue to race in the necromancer's direction, mindingless about the weapon the wicked necromancer had. When the dagger was in reach, Damien flung out his hand and slapped the danger away from her. Vandeer's face curled into a disgusting snarl but quickly Damien wrapped up his hands around her throat.

One of her hands went to his wrists as he strangled her. Just as l watched, l realized late that her free hand was making unfamiliar signs. With a flick of her wrist, the smoke dagger that was flying away jerked to a halt and rerouted in the air until it was flying back in their direction.
