Chapter 6: Conscience kick

"I'm sorry, Sister; I shouldn't have fought with Marcus," Isaac said as he lay on the bed.

"I told you it's not bad to fight back, Isaac, but in your situation, you should stay away. You make me nervous," Isabel sighed as she stroked her brother's hair.

"Sister.. how long will I suffer from asthma? I'm jealous of my classmates who can do what they want. How can I have a girlfriend if I can't defend myself against those who fight with me?" Isaac explained, disappointed in himself.

"Isaac, you are strong and smart; I'm sure someone will like you just as much, but this time prioritize your studies and your health first, so I’m not getting worried anymore."

Isaac gave a slight nod and smile. "I'm sorry, Sister; you've made so many sacrifices for me."

"Come on, I love you, so I'll do anything to help you get better and not get back here in the hospital again."

After a while, the nurse arrived to explain all of the medications they required along with their hospital bills. Isabel sighed deeply as she read the bills, but she didn't show Isaac her emotion. She smiled and excused herself to go buy food for them, but the truth was that she was crying outside, wondering where she was going to find that much money after being fired from her job.

“Kevin, give me the car key. I’ll go see someone.” Gideon said, quickly putting on his coat.

“Where are you going at this hour, Gideon?” Freya asked with a surprise.

“I just said it, I’m going to meet someone. Since my meeting with Ms. Taylor had been canceled last night.” Gideon said.

Freya sighed. “Can I come with you?”

"What? No. I can't take my secretary with me on my personal walk." Gideon answered seriously. After Kevin handed him the key, Gideon quickly left the resort to start his car.

Kevin looked at Freya. "Still failed this time?" he teased.

"Shut up, Kevin, and I'll find out who Gideon is meeting at this hour," Freya said simply.

"Come on, we all know that Sir Gideon doesn't have a girlfriend."

"What if he met another woman that I'm not aware of? I can't let him go to someone else; I've worked hard for this position to be close to him, and I don't want it to be wasted," Freya explained.

Kevin simply shook his head, knowing Freya was wasting her time forcing herself on Gideon.

"But that's your life. I'm just seeing what the facts are," Kevin explained, leaving Freya to her irritated thoughts.

Before getting out of the car, Gideon checked Isabel's data record to see if the address had written and where he went was correct.

"I think I'm in the right place." He muttered as he got out of the car.

He took a step closer to the small house, he didn’t doubt Isabel living in this kind of house, simple like her. Because there is no doorbell on either side of the gate, he decided to knock twice before the old woman showed up, frowning.

"Good evening...I was wondering if Isabel Smith lived here?" Gideon asked with a right manner.

While the old lady continued to stare at him from head to toe. “Hmm, this is what I said. Isabel owed you money, didn't she?”

“What?”

"Well, they're no longer living here. I kicked them out!” the old woman said.

Gideon, on the other hand, shook his head. He didn’t expect Isabel's Life to be more miserable than he thought.

"Tss, I can't believe that girl, she doesn't choose who she borrows money from!" Shameless!" the elderly lady went on.

“Alright, that’s enough. I’m leaving.”  Gideon said as he walked back to his car.

By starting his car, Gideon took a deep breath. He had no choice, his conscience gives him even more motivation to find Isabel.

Isabel returned to the hospital, holding the food in both hands.  She surprised her brother by buying him his favorite Ice cream.

“Come on, Isabel. I’m not a kid anymore.” Isaac chuckled.

“What? This is your favorite. And don’t be silly, you’re still my little Isaac.” Isabel on the other hand, trying to make her brother happy. But her thoughts were still on the money she needed to earn.

“Where is Alice?” Isaac said, started to open his Ice Cream.

"She'll be here soon, maybe just busy at work," Isabel responds, recalling the time Gideon fired her in front of a lot of people.

"So, why are you here?" Do you have a job at this time?"

"What? Of course, you are my first priority. I left work earlier and came here." She sadly smiled.

"Well, I'd say your boss has a good heart because he allows you to see me." Isaac continued, leaving Isabel speechless because she knows her boss was completely the opposite of his opinion.

Gideon, on the other hand, was looking at them in the distance. Finally, he understood Isabel's priority. He made a mistake by looking at her for the first time as a paid woman.

“Mr. Fierro, what makes you come here?” the doctor asked when he saw Gideon looking inside of Isaac's room.

Gideon turned his gaze at him. “Dr. Calvin, May I talk to you for  a moment?”

________

"So, what are you going to do with that? Where are you going to get the money?” Alice asked sadly.

Isabel looked at Isaac, who was sleeping, and shook her head, "I don't know, Alice." A tear fell from her cheeks, which she quickly wiped away.

"I have some savings here that I can lend to you," Alice promised.

"Alice.. I owe you so much, and I am eternally grateful. I'm not sure how I'm going to pay you back."

"Hey, Isabel. You're a good friend so I won't regret helping you, and Isaac is like a brother to me. Now we're just thinking about how to pay Isaac's bill." Alice responded.

After a while, the nurse arrived to give Isaac's medication. Isabel sighed, thinking she'd have to pay more because of the amount of medicine the nurse was providing.

"Excuse me, Nurse, Um may I ask how much those medicines are, since they aren't included in the bills that were given earlier?" Isabel asked.

The nurse smiled and said, "Everything is paid, Ms. Smith. Your brother can be released from the hospital tomorrow."

Alice just stared at what she heard, while Isabel frowned.

"H-How? "Well, I haven't given you any money yet," Isabel wondered.

"Dr. Calvin was the one who informed me, and he also gave the order to provide all of your brother's medical needs."

Isabel's mind was filled with wonder, so she left Isaac's room right away to find Dr. Calvin and clear him up.

In her search, she happened to catch Gideon talking to Dr. Calvin outside the hospital.  It seemed obvious to her that Gideon had something to do with it.

Gideon turned to her and excused himself from Dr. Calvin's conversation.

Isabel exited the hospital and approached Gideon.

"What's that for?" Isabel asked, irritated.

Gideon frowned.

"What does that mean? Are you going to buy me again?"

"I'm sorry for what I did to you earlier, I shouldn't have fired you especially now and you need money for your brother." Gideon answered seriously to hide his guilt.

Isabel was taken aback; she had not expected people like Gideon to have a conscience.

"You're right, I need money right now, but not from you, Mr. Fierro," Isabel said as she turned to walk back inside.

"Are you going to turn down my offer? Come on, Isabel, think of your brother rather than your pride!"

"Pride? I've swallowed my pride for a long time since the night I gave you my virginity!" Isabel paused, unsure if she could say it aloud due to her emotions.

"I did that for my brother! Because he has been delaying the check up for several months and I’m out of money!" Isabel continued as tears streamed down her cheeks, which she quickly wiped away. "I don't need your money again, Gideon; I'll just borrow from someone else rather than you."

"All right, call it a debt, but you have to return to the Resort to pay me back," Gideon said seriously.

Isabel calmed down, impressed by Gideon's calmness and ability to act like a boss in this situation.

"You go to work tomorrow, and if you ask for peace, I'll give it to you," Gideon continued, taking a deep breath before turning around and returning to his car.

While Isabel barely managed to get any words out.
