6. A wife.

Gus.

Everyone had long laid and all had long fallen asleep when I began to stroll to my chambers, it was almost dawn. As I walked into the dark hall of the fortress, I felt him. His presence was unusually strong and hovered around the mansion as if he was present. I felt the tension, the anxiety, and the terror before I even saw him. In the blink of an eye, The Commander of Grief stood right in front of me and had my knees buckling instantly to a kneel.

I shivered in front of The Lord Caesar Monsorrie.

“My Lord,” I spoke before my breath dissipated into thin air, my head was bent to the floor. I had never looked into his eyes before, and I didn’t dare.

I could feel his stare on me, and I trembled before him.

“Augustine.”

He called my name, his cold voice peering through my sense of audibility, as goosebumps flooded my pale skin.

“Welcome home, My Lord.” I managed, controlling my uneasiness. He is the highest entity in this realm so his presence made me feel uneasy.

My eyes caught a glimpse of him and he was not in his true form, but the Aura that came from him was capable of snatching my immortality and seizing every soul in the entire province.

“How did you sense my return, Augustine? You even prepared a present.”

I could never get used to his presence so I cowered once again as he spoke.

“M-My Lord?”

A present?

“Where did you get her?” He asked and began to stroll into the halls, leaving me turning my head to where he moved to.

“Walk with me.” He ordered and I immediately did as he commanded even if I was slightly behind him.“Tell me, where did you get her.”

My eyes strolled to his face for the first time in centuries and my eyes widened in awe. The Lord had a mischievous smile on his face.

I tried my best to control the rate at which my heart thudded but I couldn't help it.

This is unbelievable, mysterious, and fascinating all at once. The Lord permitted me to see his face and he just smiled.

My entire body went stiff. Was I just fortunate enough to see this?

I couldn’t get rid of the shock that seemed to have become my new expression, and if my skin could grow any paler, it would have.

Did he have this expression on his face because of her?

I furrow my brows in confusion but I didn’t dare to show it to him.

Wait...

Is he talking about the young miss? Has he met with her?

“Is My Lord perhaps referring to Miss Kira?” I asked with a bow and crossed fingers

“So that is her name.” I saw the grin on his face accompanied by curiosity. He seemed interested in her and I am astounded beyond recognition.

“Who is she?” His question struck like lightning leaving me speechless and confused.

He doesn’t know who she is?

How is that possible? He married her.

“S-She is your wife, My Lord.”

He paused his steps instantly and cocked his head where I saw his eyes. My heart stopped.

And with a devilish smile, his words stole a beat from my heart.

“A wife?”

****

Kira.

I opened my eyes to the light, feeling empty again, the warmth was gone. I ran my palms up and down my arms trying to convince myself that I was dreaming and it was a dream but no matter how I compared it, it felt so real. There was someone in my bed. His scent was plastered in my head, I felt his warm embrace, I felt his touch, his breath, his protection. I was buried in him.

The night was not as cold as usual, I felt entirely different, I felt emotions I had never felt before rushing from all parts of me, so there was no convincing me that this was not real.

I rushed out of my bed hurriedly as my eyes moved everywhere.

What was I searching for exactly?

Who am I searching for?

My steps into every room in my chamber were far from fast, but no room held the person I searched for and it drove me insane.

Have I gone insane?

Have I been too alone and have begun to hallucinate?

I ran my hands through my hair, lost in my thoughts so much so that I was oblivious to the knock on the doors and countless maids that strolled inside.

My eyes strolled to them but my thoughts were not with them. Their faces were pale and filled with terror. They looked like they had seen a ghost but I was too conflicted to pay attention to their expressions.

“Good Morning Miss Kira, We are here to prepare you for breakfast.”

Prepare me?

Why do I need to get prepared for breakfast?

I am too bewildered to say anything. I just stand there and watch them speechless. I couldn’t formulate words because they were the least of my problems. I just let them do whatever Gus had ordered them to do, arguing would only prolong things and I would end up doing nothing the entire day.

I watch them prepare my bath and my skin delicacies as a group of maids decide on the clothes I would wear.

Something was off about it.

They were treating me differently. They were suddenly treating me the same way they treated me the first day I arrived here.

What’s the occasion?

Maybe they want me to represent them in one of those ball galas where I am treated like shit.

I said nothing and just watched them until they were all done. It felt as though I was getting married all over again.

They dipped me in the scented water they prepared carefully and massaged my skin themselves.

I was being treated like a queen.

I watch my skin slowly grow softer right before my eyes.

What are they using on me?

The substance they used on me was totally different from the ones I use every day.

They were just quietly doing their jobs, none of them uttered one word to me.

After I was done with my bath, they rubbed and adorned me with scents and perfumed oils that made me glow as I was rushed with a beautiful silky gown.

“You’re ready, Miss Kira,” Vanessa informed me.

This was beyond unusual, should I be scared?

I tried not to overthink, but it was impossible not to, so I just waved it off

Still watching silently, they directed me out of the room and escorted me into the hallways.

I roll my eyes at their actions already tired of all of Gus’s little orders. He definitely asked them to do this. This action had his prints written all over it.

We walked from the hallway to the large halls, before the large doors were pushed open to the dining hall and that familiar scent my entire organs craved desperately traveled directly up my nostrils.

“Here she is, My Lord.” I hear Gus’s voice before I even see him.

And my body froze to the next thing my eyes encountered.
