Chapter 26

Adrian’s POV

I woke up with the faint sound of laughing. Though my eyes were still shut, I could still picture the man responsible for that pig-sounded laughter. I couldn't mistake that unique chortle for any other sound and I was right. It was that of Oscar, my confidant and one of the best trackers here in Moon Valley. Oscar was amusing himself with some funny videos he was watching on his phone.

Slowly, I lifted my eyelids. The light coming from the white-painted ceiling burned my eyes a little. I narrowed my eyes and raised my left arm to cover half of my face. It was at this moment that Oscar noticed that I was already awake. He quickly rushed to my bedside. His face, although full of worry, had a bright light of gratefulness and hope.

I tried posing a smile to ease his concern. When I did, I felt a sharp pain at the corners of my mouth. I gave a grimace of agony. I twitched, as I tried to move my body. My receptors instantly reacted to my plan, making my face contort even mor
