Chapter 13: green eyes

Logan Spade’s pov

It took us about a few hours to get to the city.

Justin was happy about the trip but not happy that I came along.

It’s a good thing that our father didn’t tell him the truth.

that he intended that I be the one to go and not him.

“I cant wait to meet the leaders; this is the biggest meeting in history.

Do you know how many powerful people will be there? and I will be one of them” he said with a grin.

“well, we are going there to represent the werewolves, and some powerful Alphas will be there as well” I said to him.

I get why he is excited about this.

if I am being completely honest this is a rare occasion.

Its hard for all the leaders to meet in one place.

its because everyone isalways busy and sometimes conflict arises.

so they don’t usually like being in one place.

This is the one time they meet with one goal

that is to ensure that the humans aren’t aware of our existence.

They put measures in place to ensure that our secret existence remain that, a secret existence.

I don’t know why but the city didn’t feel as stuffy as it usually did every time when I came here to visit.

For once it felt like fresh air.

I wasn’t suffocated, and the breathing of millions of people and their talks didn’t bother me.

I hate crowded places because for some reason they always get to me.

I cant even hear myself think when in large crowds.

And for me being a werewolf and having heightened hearing can be a curse in places like this.

I can hear their heartbeats.

I can hear them breathing, their long sighs after a long day.

their cries for mercy and also their pleads for help.

So, it always makes me uncomfortable coming here.

at night you can even hear married couples arguing.

You can hear doors being slammed, people being slapped, the beds creaking as they have sex and their moans.

Although I hate these sounds I can also hear their laughter.

the secret words they whisper to each other when no one is listening.

i guess you could say its both a blessing and a curse.

But at the end of the day, I never really like the city but this time it didn’t feel as bad as it usually is.

Even as I was driving I could hear their laughter, but one got my attention.

It felt like music to my ears, out of all the whispers.

of all the yelling and screaming, of all the singing this laughter stood out.

Almost as If I could listen to her laughing all day,

“Alex you really should stop saying such things. I almost dropped dead from laughing” said a very beautiful voice.

It wasn’t coming from anywhere near.

but I could hear it as clear as day as if I was focusing on it specifically.

“hey what’s wrong? You have been quiet for a while now” my brother Justice said.

“did you hear it? can you hear it?” I asked him and he looked at me and frowned as if I was crazy and maybe I am.

“hear what?” he asked.

“the voice, a female voice and laughter. I can tell it is far and amidst all this noise it stands out, did you hear it?” I asked him and he shook his head.

“you have gone crazy, I guess looking for a mate that doesn’t exist would do that to you” he said and chuckled.

My brother doesn’t believe me when I tell him that I met my mate that night on my birthday.

He said that its rare to find your mate hours just before you turned 18 let alone finding her before that.

he said that I imagined it.

I mistook some random girl’s scent as that of my mate because I had just turned 18.

From what I heard I was told that as times you don’t recognise your mate right away,

which I why usually the birthday is held a week later.

This way is so that your wolf doesn’t get confused among the she-wolf’s scents and adjust to its new environment.

I wanted to believe him when he said that.

and I knew there was a possibility he was telling the truth.

but I don’t care.

I never acknowledged that because I was there, and I was the one that looked her in the eyes.

I saw her smile and every time she smiled even for a moment my world stopped .

I know it in my heart that she is my mate.

Even today that faint scent on her scarf proves it, that girl is my mate and no one else.

We got to our hotel and got ready to leave to the event, like I said before it was a high status event.

I was walking around and taking to people when a waitress passed by, and I caught this scent from her.

It was that scent;

it was my mate’s scent, and it wasn’t faint but clear as day.

I looked at the waitress, yes the scent was coming from her, but it wasn’t her.

I looked around the building and realised that out of nowhere the scent was everywhere, how is that even possible?

Was she here before?

Did she maybe clean this building?

Was she here before that her scent is everywhere now?

“brother are you okay?” Justice asked me.

I nodded;

I couldn’t tell him because all he is going to do is make me believe that maybe I imagined it because its impossible.

There is no way a person’s scent could be all around the building but hers was everywhere at this event.

I looked around hoping that would pinpoint where the scent was coming but no luck.

“I am fine, I just need something to drink” I said.

I took a glass of juice and had a sip.

doing so I took this as a chance to look around hoping that my eyes would find her.

That somewhere in this crowd I will see her green eyes again.

that somehow those green eyes would look back at me like they did back then.

Where are you mate?

Are you somewhere close?
