Escape

Soulless emerald hues brimming with pain were staring at the beautiful scenery that was painted with the most exotic and vibrant colors. Grace can’t even think of comparing that piece of art with her bland and dull life. There was a time when her life was more enchanting and livelier than this tranquil nature but now the tables were turned.

The wheels glided over the smooth tarmac carrying away from the lost soul that doesn't even know her destiny. She just came out of one relationship only to entangle herself in another unknown bond. Ended up trusting someone whom she didn’t know. Neither the face nor the name. He was just a dark shadow, an esoteric outline of her depraved past that would haunt her forever. Just that mere thought gives her goosebumps.

"The weather seems pleasant today, lady." The driver tried to initiate a conversation. For some reason, he wanted to cheer up the broken girl. Grace as usual ignored him and kept staring outside the window. She wasn't in the mood to talk.

"Uhmm, do you want me to stop at a restaurant? It will take two hours."

"No. Keep moving."

Grace spat, a muscle in her jaw twitched. The driver was startled at her harsh reply but when he peeped at her annoyed face through the rearview mirror, his face turned red in shame. He was just trying to be friendly but looks like he extended a hand to someone who didn’t want to. Embarrassed, he nodded and chose silence for the rest of the ride.

"Seal all the exits or I will kill you all," Xavier growled at the senior police officer and grabbed his collar, jerking him violently.

"S-Sir, please we can't do this. Try to understand." The officer pleaded to him but Xavier paid no heed. The veins in his forehead throbbed since that stupid man was only wasting his time. Xavier tried to break the barriers but he was held back by the cops not realizing that they just signed their death certificate by blocking the path of that wild beast. Xavier was losing his mind. He wanted to catch Grace before she exited this town but it looked like fate had made up its mind to fail his plans.

His patience finally ran off. Without thinking twice, Xavier instantly whipped out his gun and placed it on that officer's head.

"What the hell you're doing Xavier?" Phil shouted as he came out of nowhere. He immediately pulled his hand down with full force before turning to the officer who was looking at Xavier in shock.

"Forgive him, he is in a bit of a tear." He politely apologized and dragged Xavier away from there before he could resist.

"What's the fucking matter with you? Have you lost your mind?" Phil screamed in frustration completely done with his stubbornness.

"She can't leave me. I won't let her." Xavier sneered and freed himself. Phil lost against his strength. His eyes widened when Xavier stormed towards the cops who quickly aimed their guns at him. But that hardly had any effect on the Alpha. He wanted Grace at any cost.

"DO WHAT I SAY OR-"

"Stop it, Xavier."

A tall and muscular figure suddenly came in front of him. Xavier shut his eyes as soon as he recognized that familiar smell. He dropped his gaze to his left wrist which was clasped in a tight hold. Exhaling a sharp breath, he looked up only to be met with a pair of dark blue eyes.

"Calm down. You need to calm down." That buff man rasped, his voice was too thick and deep that it could even freeze Hades.

"Get out of the way Nicholas," Xavier spoke with clenched teeth as the duo shared fierce eye contact. But none of them backed down.

Nicholas wasn't a bit intimidated by his killer glares as he met them head-on. Taking a step forward, he looked straight into his dark eyes that were glistening not because of tears but due to anger.

"I said calm down. You're on the verge of transforming and we both know that the outcomes wouldn't be favorable." Nicholas tried to make him understand and tightened his hold.

"You're wasting my time, Nick. She will fucking leave." Xavier snarled, his body shaking.

"She won't. I assure you." Nicholas stated, "It's my responsibility to bring her to you. I promise. Back off for now."

His promising tone simmered his wrath. Xavier furrowed his brows as he tried to read his eyes that held nothing but truth. He doesn't give a damn about anyone but he trusted his Beta the most in this world.

Nicholas King was a man of word. His family had been serving the royal family for years. Loyalty ran in his veins. Though Xavier had many friends, he trusted no one except him and Nicholas which was quite ironic since they both never stayed on the same boat. The two disagreed even on the pettiest issues. Their egos were higher than the mountain and none of them liked surrendering but despite so many differences, they only relied on each other in difficult times. Because Nicholas put his pack over everything. Safety of the Alpha mattered to him the most and Xavier also knew that Nicholas could even risk his life to save him.

Xavier looked away and nodded grudgingly. But he was frustrated. Yanking away his arm, he stormed away from there and headed to his car.

Phil waited for Xavier to leave as he kept staring in his direction until Xavier climbed inside his Ashton Martin. The sight of his car disappearing in the air triggered him to action.

Phil immediately dashed to Nicholas and hugged him. "Thank God you came." He mumbled. Breaking the hug, he looked at the cops and bowed to them.

"I am so sorry for everything." He said and looked up. The officers kept staring at him bewildered but their hearts froze in fear when they noticed his eyes.

They had turned completely white.

"What the-"

The senior officer panicked but Phil rendered him motionless. He then swept his gaze at others turning them statues just like him.

"Is it done?" Nicholas asked him in a bored tone and raked a hand over his blonde hair.

After accomplishing the task, Phil opened his eyes which slowly turned normal. He then looked at Nicholas and flashed him a smile.

"Yup." He replied and crossed his arms while watching the dazed officers with a contended smile who resumed their work.

"But kindly forbade Xavier from pulling up such stunts in the future. The spell saps my whole energy." He complained and scowled at Nicholas who simply scoffed.

"It's your job and pray Xavier doesn't hear you or he'll forbade you to breathe. Don't forget he is the one who funds your clubs and casinos." He snapped and strutted to his black Maserati.

Phil looked at him in disbelief. Enraged, he chased him, "That's why Xavier doesn't like you. We are friends. How could you be this harsh to me?"

"There's nothing wrong in calling a spade a spade," Nicholas answered nonchalantly and shut the door.

"And I am not your friend."

Speaking in the coldest tone, he wore his shades and inserted the keys in the lock. Phil glowered at him but soon a chuckle escaped his lips.

"Of course. What can I even expect from a heartless monster? Anyways, you're going behind Xavier?" he asked him. Nicholas shook his head in denial.

"What? But you-"

"That's your job. I am going after that girl." Saying that, he pressed the accelerator and drove away leaving Phil hanging.

"W-What? Hey, you can't do this. HE'LL KILL ME NICHOLAS!!!”
