HER SECOND CHANCE MATE.

Second Chance Mate.

Kayla's POV

"Get her out of my sight! I never want to lay eyes on her again! She's just like the rest, and she will always be!"

His words, filled with bitterness and disappointment, echoed relentlessly in my ears as I found myself sitting on a bed in a dimly lit room, the blue light casting an eerie glow.

Confusion and guilt gnawed at my heart. I couldn't explain why I felt a deep sense of remorse, why his rejection affected me so deeply.

After all, I had been running away from him, expecting the worst.

"Could it be that the stories I've heard about him are false?" I whispered, my mind overwhelmed with questions and doubt.

"It's clear that he's not what you've been led to believe, Kayla! Don't you think you should consider apologising to him?" My inner wolf Lyra suddenly said, making me feel reluctant but still curious.

The idea of apologising to Alpha Netayam felt daunting, as if I would be exposing my weakness once more.

Yet, I couldn't deny the lingering connection I felt toward him. It beckoned me to seek closure with him, to unravel the truth behind his cold gestures.

"Apologise? Oh please, Lyra! Like it's going to erase the pain I feel" I snorted, Rolling my eyes.

"I don't know, Lyra... I was just hurt by his words, and it hurts even more because I think there's more to him than meets the eye. Maybe people run away from him because he's cold, but they don't truly understand him,"

I responded with a heavy sigh, my gaze fixated on my hands resting on my laps. Though they meant nothing, somehow they offered a sense of peace to my soul.

"I think there's something you still don't know, Kayla," Lyra interjected, capturing my attention once again, increasing my curiosity.

"What is it, Lyra? That my sister took my place in the Silver Moon Pack? or that Alpha Lex was always a scumbag to fall in love with?" I scoffed bitterly, recalling the events that had happened earlier.

The betrayal I had experienced cut deep into my soul; being cast aside, sold off, and forced to become the bride of a dreadful Alpha who didn't even want me.

It felt as if I was nothing more than a cruel joke.

"I'm just a pawn in their game, Lyra, and I know it," I muttered, a mixture of frustration and bitterness seeping into my voice, as I absent-mindedly started fiddling with my fingers.

"Stop it, Kayla! You feel this way because Alpha Netayam is your mate!" Lyra declared, causing me to Swiftly jolt from the bed, my eyes widening with disbelief.

Her words hit me like a bolt of lightning, and I couldn't dismiss them as mere nonsense.

"Mate? Don't say such absurd things, Lyra! Alpha Lex was supposed to be my mate, and look what happened? He rejected me after we had sex!"

I exclaimed, crossing my arms tightly across my chest, unwilling to accept the truth she revealed.

"Lex was your mate, but he rejected you, and you accepted it, breaking the mate bond in the process," Lyra explained, delving into the important details that I hadn't fully understood.

"The Moon Goddess has granted you a second chance mate, and that mate is Alpha Netayam," she Divulged, her words causing my heart to pound in my chest at an alarming pace.

"What? No! That can't be! He's ruthless and cold! He's much older than me. How could I possibly be mated to someone like him? I bet he doesn't even know how to treat a woman with care!"

I exclaimed, vehemently rejecting the sudden decision made by the Moon Goddess.

Out of all the Alphas in existence, she had chosen the one Alpha I never could have imagined being with.

I couldn't allow Alpha Netayam to become my mate. I couldn't bear the thought of being by his side.

The only option that slammed into my mind was to keep running, to escape from this cruel fate that had been made for me.

Without hesitation, I quickened my pace towards the door. Thankfully, it wasn't locked, so I grasped the cold metal doorknob, gasping for hope as I yearned to slip away unnoticed.

"Where are you going, Kayla?" Lyra's voice rang out, tinged with fear and anxiety.

"If anyone should be mated to a dreadful and cursed Alpha, it should be Kara, not me! This isn't the kind of mate I've always dreamed of. An older mate? Never!"

I declared with conviction, my determination fueling my escape.

With those words, I sprinted out of the room, finding my way through the cold and quiet hallway, desperately seeking freedom.

It was the full moon but I wasn't feeling any form of rage with Lyra. I gained control of my transformation without knowing it.

Soon, I came to a stop when I was met with the highest fence I had ever seen surrounding a Pack's castle.

It was a huge mansion truth be told but I couldn't get a clear view because it was dark.

"You can't do this, Kayla! We should head back before someone gets us both!" Lyra argued but I wouldn't listen to her.

I paced closer to the wall and without hesitation, I leaped to get a hold of the top of the fence but it was just too difficult.

I wasn't that tall so at this point, I needed a ladder.

I turned around, searching for one, using my blue wolf glowing eyes but I couldn't even sight a stick.

'They must have really planned this well' I said Inwardly.

Just then, as I kept on searching for a boost to get over the wall, I heard a loud growl and disturbing thudding sounds from a distance.

"What's that?" I paused briefly, my eyes scanning the environment to know where it was coming from.

"I don't know, Kayla but whatever it is, I think you shouldn't go!" Lyra warned as always.

"We should just get back into the room. It's the full moon and you wouldn't know what werewolf is struggling with its transformation!" She added, her voice trembling with fear.

I ignored her and began to race towards the sound that just wouldn't stop.

I bet if she had her way, she would have taken full control over me and sent me back to the room; but she couldn't.

After what felt like eternity and Lyra's constant pleas, I came to halt right before a room with two high doors as a form of barrier.

"I bet everything in this mansion will always be high!" I smirked, taking a few strides towards the door.

Truth be told, I was scared but then, I heard a disturbing but pained voice echoing right into my ears.

"Help me! Help me please!"

It begged over and over again like it was compelling me to come closer to it.

At this point, I just couldn't help but boldly push the high doors open just to see who it was and why I couldn't stop hearing that voice.

"Gggghrrrrrrrr !!"
