Chapter 37

The next morning, I got a call from my father. I was drying my hair after having my bath when the call came in so I took it and put it on speaker.

“Hey, princess,” my father’s voice filled the room. “How are you doing?”

“Hey, dad. I’m alright,” I abandoned drying my hair and took a seat. “How are you and mum?”

“All good. That aside, I heard something interesting just now,” my father said.

He sounded downtrodden but I didn’t take it to heart. Knowing my father, if I asked why he sounded like the world was about to cave in on him, his response would probably be something along the lines of missing me and I did not want to go home. Ethan was going home every weekend and my parents had hinted they wanted me to come as often but I did not want to be stuck in a car with Ethan and then get home to my father grilling me.

“What did you hear?” I asked, pretending not to hear the sorrow in his tone.
