Mia
I took my glasses off and yawned out loudly. I was famished, all because I had been writing about a Parent who impregnated his own daughter for the past three hours. Proofreading, carrying out self edit, and also reducing my use of big grammars, so as not to give people the headache of going to check a dictionary countless time, before moving over to read the second paragraph.
I wanted my readers to understand my story. Although, I needed to add some lie, to make the story seem more interesting, and to make it lengthier.
The story was short but I wanted it to be lengthy because my grumpy old boss, Mr Derrick never ceased the opportunity to lay constant complains whenever I wrote short articles or news. He usually read the story before it would undergo publishing.
Currently, I was having slight pains on my finger tips which had been on the keyboard for the past three hours. And my throat was getting dry from lack of liquid. Even my stomach was grumbling like an old man who was forced to exercise.
I drummed my fingers on my desk before sucking them one after the other. I usually do that to ease the pains.
I stopped sucking my fingers when I felt someone's presence behind me.
I turned and saw my colleague Mr Levi, a thirty something year old man, who was married with three kids. One of the best reporters we could boast of, in our office.
Nice and quite handsome but had the Calabar accented English despite being in lagos for seventeen years. And that made it very difficult for him to speak in public. He wasn't even allowed to read news over the raidio or on tv. But was allowed to write articles because he was very good. He was also being envied by most of our colleagues. But he had an awful smell like a truck driver, whenever he was sweaty. I winced when I thought about the awful smell that was frequently around him when I go close to him. And how he smelt the last time made me barf the baby food I had eaten one faithful day. I had to swallow the vomit back with my nose wrinkled in disgust, because Mr Derrick was surveying me, and I wanted no drama from the old man.
Well, Mr Levi was friend of my mine and the only one who understood my person .We were eight reporters in the same office. Unlike Mr Levi, the other reporters labeled me as a rude, saucy and weird young lady. But the truth was, I was a no nonsense person and couldn't have my mouth shut when keep when pissed. I stood up to everyone, I mean everyone irrespective of their age, size and whatever position.
The rest of them were older.
Pushing those thoughts away, I glanced at Mr Levi.
"What are you doing, are you trying to peer into my work or something?" I asked raising a mock- curious brow at him.
"Don't be silly, why would I peer into your work when I'm better than you?" He teased and I rolled my eye balls in their sockets, at his cocky remark. His Calabar accented English reserved R, L and T.
"Anyways, just checking on you, you've been typing for the past three hours."
"Just gotta finish this stuff you know, by the way can I borrow your car, wanna go have lunch. I'm famished."
He looked away abruptly at the mention of his car, then replied "No."
"Pu-leeez." I pleaded, giving him my huge baby black.
"Nno way, go and take a taxi". He replied, scrunching his face up in a frown. He was soft hearted despite his huge physical structure.
"Mbok." I said which meant 'Please'.
He normally used that when he wanted to send me on an errand. He was mute for some seconds contemplating how he'd be, if I get into an accident and crash his car because of how crazy I was.
And what it seemed like a whole damn while, he cleared his throat and spoke up, eyeing me.
"Okay, but don't take long." He warned tossing me his car keys.
"Yes sir." I saluted him with my two skinny fingers, gave him a lopsided grin, before waltzing around him.
"Damage my car, and pay for it. You silly girl." He offered me a smile, shaking his head as I bumped into a colleague of mine, who rewarded me with a sneer.
MiaOn my way to work after lunch, I drove a crowd of people who were shouting at the corner of the road at Ikoyi. Eager to know what the hell was on going, and with the reporter part of me which kicked in, I reversed the car back, stopped and alighted from the car to take a view.I could hear murmuring and cursing from the people. I moved closer, and I coudn't see what was happening because a plump dark lady with a toddler on her back was obstructing my damn view.Cursing no one in particular because I was pissed and irritated, I walked to the other side of where the crowd was thronging together.A huge guy was holding a piece of wood on his right beasty paw, while his left was akimbo, and it was wide open since he was very bulky in size.I had no optio
AlexWe had been at the bar for the past two hours and Bolu had been talking non-stop despite the loud disquieting music blaring from the speakers. I wasn't interested in what she was saying because I didn't like talking. She had arrived at my house that evening when I was in my study. Clad in jeggings, jacket, boots and excessive make up on her face, insisting we go grab some drinks. She had had a hectic day at work and wanted to spend sometime with me.She ordered for soft drinks while I ordered for beer. She was on her third bottle now, while I was still on my second. I was tired of her ranting and was getting irritated.Bolu and I had been dating for two months, and the damn woman couldn't understand my person. Had no idea that I despised it when people talked non-stoppingly. She was no
Alex"Dinner is served." I informed, watching over her from my shoulder as I settled the plates of food on the dinning table. I didn't need to raise my voice because I had a deep voice."Awwww, that's so sweet. I'm coming." Bolu said from the sitting room where she was watching Telenovela. She was putting on the pajamas I had lend her and sipping the coffee she had made.I replied her with a firm nod, took a seat and waited for her.She stood up moments later, and made her way towards the dinning room. She looked really cute in my wine coloured satin pajamas, with her artificial bone straight waist length hair. I couldn't help but admire her that moment as my gaze slid up her body. She was a real beauty."What did you prepare, Al?" She asked, hastily grabbing a fork, as she
BoluThe sound of buzzer and dogs barking made me stir, as I hugged the pillow tighter, pressing my face into it. The stupid barking increased and I grudgingly sat upright, and ran my hand through my wildly tangled hair. I stretched my foot looking for one pair of slipper I had worn last night. I could feel my lips twitching into a pout.I yawned with my hand fisted against my mouth, stretched my arms and wore the comfy bedroom flip-flops I had worn last night. The air conditioner had made them cold though.Wondering why Alex wasn't in bed with me, I decided to head into his study. The damn guy must've slept in there. But he wasn't there when I got in. Meanwhile, barking of the dogs had gone out of control, like the were having mental disorder.
BoluHis eyes met mine swiftly, and sweet Jesus, I felt a jolt in my body. My teeth chattered as I shuddered, because it all felt like a misapprehension that this mysterious male just connected his eyes with mine, and looked away. There was something odd and intriguing about him, that commanded attention. I mean he was so cold looking and attractive at the same time, that I had doubts if he smiled or laughed.I was still occupied, ogling at him until he popped the buttons on the elevator, and hopped in. When the elevator slid down, I felt my heart going haywire.Holy Fudgenuts Molly. No Wonder Dad's Secretary was blushing furiously, when she saw him.I was still lost in
Charles"Congratulations you idiot, you just got caught. Now keep your gun down, raise your hands up, and turn around." I yelled, aiming the gun at the thief who had his back to me. He and three other guys went about robbing First Bank. We were called by a lady who hid in the restroom when she saw the thieves. When I and my colleagues arrived, we caught two of the thieves who were hijacking people's phones, money and jewelries. We succeeded in arresting them.Unsatisfied, because there were two thieves to be caught and handcuffed, I left my colleagues and went out all alone, in search of the thieves. Because I felt they were still in the building. And not too long ago I caught one trying to escape through the fence with the bag of money in his gloved hands. He kept the bag and gun down, raised h
CharlesIt was a minute past ten when I arrived at my mom's house to pick up Ruby. Mom's house was thirty minutes drive away from my house. I felt it was better for Ruby to stay at her granny's than hiring a nanny to look after her. So I always left her at my mlm's house, spend an hour or two with her, before returning to the office."Good evening, Charles." Mom greeted when I went into her view. She was sitting on the sofa in her sitting room, reading the bible with her thick lensed glasses on.I stared into that once beautiful face which was now wrinkled from old age. She was sixty two but age quickly. Currently looking like she gained twenty years in existence to her appearance. Because of the H.B.P and diabetes she had.She also had a short hair which had the variat
MiaRachael Okafor, the owner of Five Star Luxury Hotel at Lekki was hosting a party that evening in her hotel.Only the wealthy people in town had access to be invited; Ministers, Commissioners, Musicians, Celebrities, and so on.But somehow, I stole the invitation card from the post man who was delivering the invitation cards.I was at the park that saturday afternoon, watching parents, children and young couples having fun, and letting the cool breeze soothe my physical frame, when a postman stopped his motorcycle at the side of where I was sitting. And hurried into the bushy part of the park to take a piss. Poor guy must have been pressed. The nosy part of me urged me to stand up, take the lead of the box, and peeked in. That was how I saw Rachel Okafor's name written on one of the inv
