Chapter 1 – World of Shapeshifters.

Shapeshifters, humans had written tales and myths about shapeshifters. Most tales are complete fibers like the sexual depicting of sirens, many had written them sexual beings, others even portray them as similar to mermaid, they could not be more wrong.

Well, the are other truths about shapeshifters I have read in books, the most common one is how a shapeshifter’s life partner is decided for them by destiny, otherwise named mates. Annoying system I know, but it is more annoying when your mate is a different spice from you, I know of a story of a werewolf mated to a mermaid, or that one witches mating with vampires.

Mating in between races goes down centuries that purebloods are rare. Pure blood is most common with the royal family of said race.

“This is a jackpot not only did we catch mermaids we found the rarest siren.”

Running away from home was not the cleverest idea, well it is father who made me angry, angry enough for me to leave our home, submerged under the water, where us sirens live.

“I thought they were supposed to be sexy; I never knew sirens where this ugly and scaly. Even mermaids are better.”

Ugh how dare these traffickers compare us to that specimen of cowards, mermaids were also endangered like us, but us unlike most shapeshifters live underwater for protection, but mermaids are always getting caught, pretty dumb like their king.

“They say it is their voices and their blood that is valuable.” One of the men said, I roll my eyes, how naïve are they, they just caught their own death willingly. I do not have to pity them. “His majesty the second prince would be very happy with our new catch.”

“Hi,” that was my first words, a simple hi is enough to make these dumb fools be under my spell, I can tell them to get me out of the net or jump of the ship to kill themselves, I watch as these obedient fools gather in front of me.

The other merfolk seems to be mesmerized too; it would be nice to show them how different sirens are to mermaids.

“This is the last time you will catch a siren.” I say, taking off the net was quite easy, it melts quickly with my scales.

And the effortless way to die is not what I aim for, I want to show them why sirens are feared, why they should not mess with me especially, the one and only princess of sirens.

With one smile I continue to sharpen my teeth before biting one of the men’s neck off, yes, we are brutal creatures. The other men seem to have snap out of the illusion my voice enchanted them in. but it will never stop me, stop me from biting their necks off and watching them scream and shiver in agony.

“Ha ha ha ha …... they are so pathetic.

“Your majesty you needed not to do that, you could have just compelled them to let us go.”

One of the only sirens caught, Ophelia says, the little protection my father said I needed. I do not hate Ophelia, she is cute and highly organized and most importantly she is really strong, she is a bit too morally disciplined, but she adjusts well when she is around me.

“Oh, Lia should not worry about me, I am okay.”

“Your Majesty, one of the men mention a second prince, it is clear this is a royal family ship.”

“And?”

“We can start a war with attacking the other royal family.”

“So? We can take them.”

“We cannot afford a war, many of our species would be killed.”

“But we will win, wouldn’t we?”

“No one wins in a war Your majesty.”

I roll my eyes again, fine she might be right, but it is not like I attacked a prince or princess. Besides, they started it by kidnapping our people.

“Um… thank you” one of the mermaids kidnapped speak.

“Ah... it is nothing her majesty is happy to help, besides, she was saving herself as well.” Ophelia says before smiling to compel everyone to forget us before they jump to see to return to their homes.

“We should go too.” She says, “your majesty you should not change into human form, we are returning to sea.”

“Ugh, come on Lia, let's have some fun, look there at those lights, we will be only there for a few hours.”

“Avisa please just do this once for me, let us return home, I will tell his majesty it was my fault we got kidnapped.”

Avisa Aqua Photim, his majesty Kyrtos Photim’s only daughter, with the beauty of her mother but the nasty attitude of her father. Ophelia’s worst nightmare but also the best thing in her life.

“Come on Lia, lets live a little, I have never set foot on land my entire life.”

Avisa’s words are cut short when they hear steps entering the ship. Even though they had anchored the ship for a few moments people did not seem to want to approach the boat.

“Hide, now” Ophelia tells Avisa, she already knows unlike the men they had killed, the approaching two are not to be taken lightly.

Vampires, one of the races Avisa hates passionately since she remembers her mother’s bloodless body that submerged, those bloodsuckers had drunk her mother dry.

It was two men, they had dressed formally, they wore shiny black shoes and black suits, one had a white shirt, and the other wore a black shirt.

“Can’t we just attack these bloody bloodsuckers?” Avisa whispers, “they were trafficking us, let us get our revenge.”

“You cannot just kill them carelessly; they could be royal.” Ophelia lies, she knows they are royal, she heard the other man call the scary tall man in the black shirt your majesty.

“Ugh, fine I will stay put.”

But they could not stay put, because after something fall where they were hiding the two men were in front of them before they could hide again.

“Hi,” Avisa had thought on her feet to compel them before they could attack them.

“Sleep.” She says, but only one of the men had done what he was told, the other men stood there, looking at them with a menacing glare, his canines already showing.

“Damnit…” he cursed, but Avisa was one to always think on her feet she had already hit the man on his head before he could so anything.

“Ugh... that was close, let me compel him while he is unconscious.” Avisa scoffed, she hated how she had to do extra work because these d*mn vampires could mind their business and assume the sound must have happened because of the wind.

The man’s grey eyes had looked at her with so much contempt that he fell unconscious, she had hissed in fear for the first time, danger, he was danger itself. She had felt her skin crawl with both anger and fear, a man that brought fear in her the fear even her father could not.

They had left the ship soon after leave the two man out cold on the floor, and to Ophelia’s dismay the had went offshore. Metropolis, a city of opportunity they call, a city a certain siren princess is about to mess her life up at.
