3 - An impulsive decision

Sarah had been voted as Prom Queen, but she had never spited Helen in any way with her social status, even when Helen didn't want to attend the prom because she had no date, Sarah had fixed her a date with one of the popular guys in school.

After high school, she had also insisted Helen go to the same college as her and since Helen could not by any way afford the tuition fees, Sarah had implored her father to foot every expense till they had both graduated.

After college, Sarah had even used her influence in securing a good job for the bitch and all she got back from her was pain and betrayal. She slammed the steering with her fist as she thought of the victorious smirk which she had seen on Helen's face for finally taking away something that was of great importance to her.

Now that she reminisced on the past, some things began to come to light. She had always thought boys and men wanted her because she was beautiful, but Fred had proven her wrong like her other stupid cheating boyfriends in the past.

They had only wanted her one way or the other because of her wealthy father and his great influential connections. Nothing more! None had loved her. They all wanted to be seen around with the richest girl in school and travel places with her. That was all she was worth to them all!

Was it her fault that she was born with a silver spoon? Was it her fault that her father spoilt her silly because she was an only child?

So, all her life, she had lived a lie, lured with deceit, fake smiles, and empty promises. The girls who flocked around her, the men who swooned at her presence, they had all been acting to please her! Including Fred and Helen! The only two people she trusted in the world besides her father.

Losing the zeal to drive anymore now that she was miles away from Fred, she slowed the car to the shoulder of a deserted bridge, parked, and got down, leaving the door open. The semi-coolness emitting from the rough ground of the bridge penetrated the soles of her feet, and she didn't care, neither did she care about the expensive shoes she had abandoned in Fred's house right now.

The bridge was long and deserted and once in a while a lone car would drive by. The bridge overlooked the city. The water beneath glowed with the bright lights from the city and gave a rippling reflection of it.

It was a beautiful sight accompanied by millions of stars blanketing the night sky. In the distance, there was a minute image of a small white boat zooming off in the lagoon. Sarah walked down the side of the bridge barefooted without a care in the world since there was no one to give her a disgruntled look and take her for an insane woman since she looked a mess and her mascara had run all over her face.

She stopped several feet away from her car and leaned the back of her waist against the railings of the bridge. Sticking her chin up in the air, she closed her eyes and inhaled, letting the cool breeze from the lagoon wash over her and also letting the serenity of her surroundings cool her nerves.

She almost wished the breeze could turn into a strong wind and topple her into the water below the bridge, flushing her to an unknown destination, but she knew harboring suicidal thoughts or a death wish should never be an option. She was all her father had left and her death would devastate her father more than her mother's who had died from cancer when Sarah had been barely fourteen.

Turning around, Sarah leaned her elbows on the railings and tried to find her reflection in the water but she couldn't quite make it out in the darkness. The image of Fred's guilty face suddenly flashed through her mind now, chasing what little comforting peace she had managed to gather.

How could the bastard still look guilty after calling her a little fuck toy? She had heard everything he had said and he had still wanted to prove his innocence by lying to her face! Remembering the way Helen was tied up, she cringed. The psycho and his damn fantasies!

Fred had always wanted to play a dominating role in their sexual life by blindfolding, gagging, binding her to the bed so he could carry out all sorts of his sexual nonsense on her. She had begun to panic the first time he had blindfolded and bound her hands, and she had given up in the very last minute before he could connect the other ends of the cords to the bed.

Although she had reluctantly agreed to it, and during the first phase, she had felt so vulnerable and scared that he had never asked her for a second try, and since then neither of them had talked about it. But how was she to know that he still nursed such thoughts in his head and wanted to do them so bad?

Knowing Helen's sexual history since they had literally grown up together, she was aware that Helen had a desire for Fred's weird fantasy. Her reaction had been obvious the night she had discussed it with her. The bitch liked being treated rough in bed anyway.

Several times, Sarah had walked in on her being slapped around by men who physically abused her body while they had sex with her at the same time. She had wondered how Helen withstood such torture but to her amazement, she had discovered that her friend actually enjoyed it and claimed that that was the only way she could ever reach an orgasm.

After that day, Helen just wouldn't stop asking if Sarah had finally given in to Fred's desires of total domination and Sarah's answer had always been a NO. Sarah pursed her lips now as all these dots connected. She should have been more careful. She should have seen this coming. But how had she missed all these if they had been screwing each other for the past three months, how?

She felt deeply hurt, upset and betrayed by the two people she could practically give her life for. But it was obvious she had meant nothing to them. They had led her on without caring for her feelings.

People had never really loved her for who she was anyway just like her last opportunistic boyfriend whom she dated in college and who wanted to suck every cent out of her by playing he was a victim of circumstances and was always professing his undying love for her.

She had seen through his deceit when it was almost too late but had broken up with the douche. Why were men all the same? No matter what you did or what sacrifices you made for them, they were still always heartless monsters. Men were cruel and she wished she could wipe every one of them off from the surface of the planet.

Sarah made her resolve now after thorough thinking. Since this world was cruel and was full of nothing but lies and pains, she was going to do just the one thing that her mother had always teased her about when they used to see an old movie: Sound of Music together.

She could still hear the voice of her mother's teasing laughter anytime she grumbled in protest against what her mother promised she might become in the future, but now, that very idea seemed very plausible and comforting.

Fingering the small blue diamond pendant hanging from an expensive necklace around her neck which her father had given her as a birthday present last year, she stared down thoughtfully into the water, staring at the unsteady but beautiful reflection of the city in all its glory.

She felt little relief wash over her once again as she thought of the one thing she needed to do, but before she finally gave up this world for a new one, she had to do one important thing first- talk to her father.
