Chapter 7

We didn't have to say why we were upset. It was obvious we were down one member, and while we would have to report and explain; everyone was willing to give us a minute to decompress. It wasn't like we could mourn him when we had been paralyzed and in mortal danger, now that we were safe it came flooding out. The tears, the sobbing, the screams all came flowing out of us as we allowed the emotions free rein. I'm not sure how long we sat there, but it was a good amount of time because the sky was darkening by the time we could move. We slowly untangled ourselves, our bodies stiff. Standing up and stretching to encourage blood flow we trudged inside, knowing command would want to see us, but also knowing we needed to clean up first. It had been a long and arduous day. We moved on autopilot, slowly, methodically. Each of us lost in our own thoughts.
