Chapter 57 - Hospital bed

Everly POV

The door closes as we walk down the tunnels. We reach a bifurcation, and I realise one of the ways is no way out, but it's the furthest away from the walls of the house. We will be safer here. I feel my heart beating so fast that I don’t even think I am capable of moving anymore. I am feeling cramps, and fear is taking over my body. I sit against the wall holding a very frightened Abigail.

“You’re shaking”, she says against my chest. I close my eyes, trying to focus on my breathing and not on all the noises I hear coming from outside. Abigail pulls away from me, and she gasps as she stands. I look up at her and then down to where she is looking, and I see. Blood. I close my eyes, swallowing the tears that are about to spill. This is not the time for this. I need to focus on the little girl that is in front of me. The girl is scared.

“Everything is okay”, I whisper at her, and she nods, sitting next to me again, hugging her legs. I pull her close to me as I feel my heart br
