“Is this how it feels to be happy again?”
Just a moment ago, Patricia was over the moon, but immediately she drove into the big mansion of Leonard, the smile on her face faded away.
Her heart pounded at its highest rate, and she had a feeling that something bad awaited her inside.
She took her mind off all thought and instantly opened her bag. She took out her pregnancy test result and unfolded it for another glance.
Seeing her name boldly written on the paper, a bright smile she hasn't had in years displayed on her face.
“Finally!” She screamed, clouding how the pregnancy would re-write her fate in the Leonard mansion.
She was the legal wife of Leonard Cohen, the youngest billionaire tycoon in the city.
Marrying to Leonard Cohen, the public believed her life was full of sugar candy and most ladies envied her for being the luckiest one to marry into the Leonard family, but her life was the opposite of what others thought it was.
It was even worse!
It has been three years already, but she never for once enjoys the sweetness of the bond. The big Leonard mansion was tiny for her and she secretly named it “my cage” in her mind.
Cohen changed immediately after they left the wedding venue, and her mother-in-law always showered her with hatred.
Elsie, Cohen's younger sister, was another chaos. She victimized her and called her names because she hadn't produced an heir.
Well, her three years of suffering will soon end. She was coming from the hospital and she was three months gone.
The testimony that would keep everyone shut was already in her hand!
She folded the result and returned it to her bag. She picked her bag and got down from the car.
She paced into the house and immediately as she arrived in the living room, she fell to the couch.
She took off her heels and gently relaxed her back and head on the couch headrest.
She sighed. “I'm tired!”
She glanced at her stomach and rubbed it, feeling the warmth of the blessing in her with a grin on her face.
A part of her mind convinced her to call Anna and break the news to her, but the most excited part kept her waiting for Cohen.
She calmed herself and decided to wait for him, but she was getting more nervous every second.
‘I need to call Cohen.’ She thought. She was eager to break the news to him and could no longer wait till he would arrive at midnight.
She took out her phone in a rush and nervously opened the contact APK. Cohen's number was pinned on her phone contact list, even though it’s been over a year since they last talked through a phone call.
She dialed the number “Cynosure” but it was not reachable. She re-dialed it and luckily, it was reachable, but Cohen didn't pick his call.
‘Please, pick it.’ She said a prayer in her mind.
She dialed his number once again and since he still didn't pick it, she decided to send him a text message.
{Sweetheart, please come home early today. Good news is waiting for you.}
She typed the message, but as she wanted to click the send option, Cohen’s voice came down the stairs and she retreated.
‘Is Cohen at home?’
She placed her phone on the table and slowly stood up, amazed.
“Why is he home early?” She wondered. Cohen never came home early, using work as an excuse to stay outside late until past ten in the night.
A thought zoomed into her mind, making her eyes widened in disbelief. “Did Thomas tell Cohen already?” She phrased and instantly turned to the stairs in curiosity coupled with excitement.
She fastly ascended the stairs and abruptly opened her room door, dreaming Cohen would open his arms and give her a hug with a sincere smile, but she couldn't believe what her eyes saw.
What!
In her front, on her matrimonial bed, was her husband copulating with her best friend.
The manner she opened the door shocked them, and they stopped to had a onetime glance at her before they continued their sexual match.
Patricia's heart stopped beating at the moment, and her body shook in despair.
The reality was clear, and before her was the truth she didn't want to accept.
No, she wanted to accept it, but she couldn’t find a place for it in her head.
How can Anna, her confidant, stabbed her from behind? She has known Anna since they were in college and she was her only friend.
Patricia trusted Anna with everything she has and she ran to her whenever her heart was filled with pain, not knowing she was deadly.
Patricia was dumbfounded, and everything seemed like a scary nightmare she needed to quickly wake up from. But it wasn't a dream, so she couldn't just stand and watch.
A word needed to be said so they would stop their shameful acts and her eyes would stop witnessing the sad scene.
She pointed her right index finger at them. “A… Ann… Anna…” she called, her voice stammered as a result of the pain roasting her heart.
“Cohen…”
“How can you both do this to me?”
Cohen fell beside Anna on the bed and he moaned as he rubbed his dick under the duvet.
“What’s all these, Cohen!” Patricia queried. She couldn't help but raise her voice out of frustration mixed with anger.
Cohen stopped rubbing his dick and looked up at her in the face. “Why didn't you knock? This is what you get for banging in.”
His silly words arrive in Patricia's ear, and a surprise tone escapes her mouth. “Hun!”
His words hurt, but she picked up her courage to protest. “This is my room, I can enter whenever I want and in any manner I feel comfortable with. You both should cover your face and hide. You should be ashamed of yourself!”
“Ashamed of ourselves?” Cohen uttered, amazed. He scoffed and got down from the bed.
He picked his trouser from the floor, and wore it, facing Patricia. “Mind your words, woman.” He cautioned.
“Mind myself?” She repeated his words, which didn’t cease to amaze her.
“I have no time to trade words with you,” Cohen let out. He turned to the cabinet behind him and picked a paper.
“Take.” He instructed, stretching the paper to her.
She collected the paper and inquired. “What's this?”
“A divorce paper. Sign it and let's end this marriage.” A heartbreaking reply came out of his mouth.
His words rang loud in her head, and she felt bundle pains stroke through her heart. She felt a slight pain in her head, making her feel dizzy and almost fall to the floor, but she governed her body and stood firm.
Cohen and Anna would rather watch her die than help.
“A divorce paper?” She asked to confirm. She couldn't believe what she heard.
Why a divorce instead of an apology? Cohen did a bad thing. Why is he making her the bad one?
“Yes, are you expecting an apology? It’s a divorce paper and you must sign it! You whore!” Anna intervened, buying herself an outrageous gaze to her from Patricia.
Patricia wished she could beat Anna to pump and pull her by the hair so she could drag her around to show the world how evil she was, but that wasn't the right thing at the moment. Her response to Anna might get Cohen more angry and ruin her tiny chance.
Would she watch the marriage she had been protecting for years destroy in a blink of an eye?
The same marriage she endured three years of hardship for.
No!
Never!
She was ready to do anything to save her marriage!
She fell to her knees and held Cohen’s feet. “I’m sorry, Cohen. Please forgive me. I accept I am not good enough for you as a wife,” she begged.
Pleading when she was not guilty triggered her tears, and despite how hard she tried to cage them, they flooded out in ease.
“Cohen, please give me another chance. I won’t let a word about this get out of this room.” She promised.
Cohen pushed her away, but she grabbed his feet again. He pushed her harder, and she fell to the ground.
She quickly stood back on her knees, ready to continue pleading.
Cohen picked his phone from the cabinet and walked back to her front. “Who is this?” He asked, showing her a picture.
Seeing the guy in the picture, Patricia's eyes widened. “Thomas?” She called in shock.
“You were in a relationship with another guy before you met me,” he let out. He nodded and exhaled deeply with his mouth. “Fine, he is your first love. But since you are with me, you should have left him!”
“You chose me!” He yelled.
Patricia raised her gaze to look at Cohen in the eyes and she could see how painful he felt pouring those words out.
“Cohen, let me explain-” she found a space to defend herself, but Cohen was already high and he cut her off.
“I should let you explain? What do you have to say?” He queried. He swiped the picture and showed her another one. “Tell me, will you deny not seeing him? Didn’t you meet with him in secret?”
Immediately as Patricia saw the last image, she had a clear picture of what was going on, and she instantly regretted ever allowing Anna into her life from the beginning.
Anna was the only person who knew about Thomas. She got them back together and planned her date with him. She must have manipulated Cohen’s mind and disclosed all her secrets to him.
Patricia gave Anna a deadly side look, but Anna looked away and relaxed her back on the wall.
“Cohen, it’s not what you think-” she tried to explain , but Cohen showed no interest.
“Just sign the paper, Patricia.” Cohen insisted.
“If she refuses to sign, why don't you guys meet in court?” Anna suggested.
Patricia couldn't take it anymore. She stood on her feet and ground her teeth with a dangerous gaze. “You this…” She let out, attempting to climb the bed to hit Anna, but Cohen held her back and pushed her to a side.
“Don’t you dare hurt her! Are you blaming her now? You whore!” Cohen yelled.
Patricia locked eyes with him. “Can’t you just believe me this once?”
He chuckled. “Believe you? I should believe you after all this evidence?” Cohen let out. “Sign the paper and get out of my life. I don’t need you in my life anymore!”
Cohen’s last statement vexed Patricia and she instantly took a bold step.
She didn’t care anymore!
She wouldn't be a scapegoat anymore!
She wiped her tears and sighed as she held the bed to help herself stand on her feet. “How dare you tell me to get out of your life because of Anna?” She queried.
She bit her lower lip and voiced out. “I prioritize your happiness more than mine. It’s heartbreaking the marriage will end on this long awaited special day.”
“What’s special about today?” He raised a question.
Patricia looked at her stomach and stared back at Cohen. “I am…” she wanted to reveal she was pregnant, but she bothered not to because she felt Cohen didn't deserve her anymore.
He didn't want her in his life anymore, so she also didn’t want to stay anymore.
She stared straight into Cohen’s eyes and announced. “I will sign the paper.”
Patricia picked the paper and walked to the cabinet to get a pen. She signed it and walked back to Cohen’s front.“Take.” She said and threw the paper at his chest. She bit her lower lip and snickered. “I can't believe I was dense to be your wife till now despite how evil all of you are. I’m stupid for not requesting a divorce till now,” she let out in regret.“Well, it's not too late to move on and I am grateful you do it on my behalf,” she uttered, hiding her pains with a bright grin on her face. “This is the end of a painful bond with you, but believe me, Cohen, it is the beginning for you to reap what you sow.”She exhaled deeply and veered around to Anna, brightening her smile. “Anna.” She called. She didn't expect an answer from her because she expected Anna would be ashamed and wouldn't dare not look at her in the face, but she was wrong.Anna raised her gaze and looked straight into Patricia's eyes. “What’s it!” She yelled.Seeing Anna not guilty, Patricia masked her face with
Patricia trekked for hours before she reached the bus station. A free bus arrived and parked in her front and she entered without a particular destination in her mind. She had nowhere to go, but she felt it was not good to stay around her enemies. They were bad energies she needed to stay away from, so she wanted to go far away. She wanted to live and take care of herself so that she could protect the baby in her womb. It was all she got now.The bus arrived at the last bus station, and she got down. Immediately as she stepped out of the bus, her stomach grumbled. She has eaten nothing yet.She left home in a rush to the hospital early in the morning, and after hearing the joyous news, she hoped to have a delicious meal with her husband after he returned in the evening, but her plan was ruined. She rubbed her stomach and raised her gaze to see a restaurant at the other side. She quickly walked to the roadside and looked left, but she was eager and was carried away, so she crossed w
“Sorry for the loss.” “Thank you for coming.” Bastian appreciated people’s presence as he walked them out to the entrance of the funeral hall.He curtsied his head and watched the influenced people drive away before he turned back and saw Patricia and William walking towards him. Immediately as William sighted Bastian, he released his hand from his mother’s hand, and ran toward Bastian. Before William got to Bastian, Bastian bent down and opened his arms to welcome him.“My boy!” Bastian said, rounding his arms around William’s body.Bastian carried William from the ground. He sat him on his shoulder and walked closer to Patricia. “Sweetheart…” he called and rounded his arm on her shoulder. “It’s good to have you back in this city. Welcome back.”Patricia wore a sour smile. “It's heartbreaking. I couldn’t make it back in time. I wish to see the chairman’s face again before he passes away.” She let out. It's been over five years, with some months, since Patricia has traveled out of
Immediately as Bastian and Patricia walked out of the elevator, Mrs. Caroline, an elderly waitress and organizer, approached Bastian.“Mr. Bastian, the waitress on duty for the funeral, isn't here yet. All my efforts to reach her to no avail.” She reported.“I hope she is safe and fine,” Bastian showed concern. “Is there any alternative? What can we do?” “Let me help. I will take her place.” Patricia offered.“Hun!” A surprise tone escaped Bastian’s mouth as he turned his head to glance at her beside him.“What do you mean? How can you do that?” Bastian queried, stating his worry. “Cohen and Anna will be there. They will see you. How can you-”Patricia cut him off. “Don’t worry. I just don’t want to sit and be idle. Or do you want me to be crying in the hall?”“No, but-” Bastian opposed.“I will be busy serving the audience, so I won’t have time to think about their present. That will make me feel more comfortable.” She poured out.“But I can’t still let them see in that dress.” Bast
Bastian branched somewhere after the funeral ceremony, followed by an emergency meeting with the shareholders about the revelation of the new president, so he let a cab take Patricia and Williams home earlier. The meeting didn't end well, causing Bastian to be in a dull mood, but Williams and Patricia were his priority, so he had to look happy for them. And since Williams requested for a chocolate earlier, he stopped by at a mini supermarket to get it for him.Bastian entered the living room, holding a chocolate parcel, and Williams immediately ran to meet him.He carried Williams and dropped him at the living room center. “Here is your chocolate.”He handed the chocolate to Williams and instantly noticed how dulled Williams looked. “Did anything happen?” He investigated.Williams looked down and sighed deeply. “Dad, I think I hurt mum,” He confessed. “You told me to always make her happy always, I am sorry I disappoint you.”Bastian looked confused, asking, “what happened? Did you wa
Anna was feeling sleepy, but refused to go to bed yet, waiting for Cohen to return. She left the event in anger and refused to wait for Cohen in the car. She thought he just put on an act in public and expected him to come after her to apologize, but he didn't, and it was already past ten P.m, and Cohen was yet back home. She has called his line several times, but he didn't pick it, and he later switched off his phone. She became restless every second as her mind paved ways to different questions, thinking Cohen could be with Patricia. She was dozing off when she heard Cohen’s car horn, and she quickly opened her eyes. She heard his footsteps, and stood on her feet, and immediately as he entered, she crossed her hand over her chest, challenging, “where are you coming from?”“Where have you been, Cohen?”“Why are you just returning home at this time?”“When did you begin to monitor my movement, woman?” He queried and walked past her. She stormed to his front, blocking him from going.
“Sir, it seems there's a new problem. A big one.” Jacob announced immediately as he banged into Cohen’s office.Cohen looked up, shocked. “What’s it?” He asked.“What’s the latest bad news again?” He inquired in a low tone. Bad news isn't new to him these days because he was used to receiving one every day and none of those were worse than the one he received yesterday; he took out a loan from banks, using his properties. He used the money to fund some illegal business to generate quick money, but he failed, and since he couldn't pay back on the due date, the bank threatened to seize his company soon.“The shareholders and directors requested an emergency meeting with you,” Jacob spoke out. “I think some are on their way already.”Cohen’s eyes widened in shock. “W…why? Wh…what happened?” He asked, his voice stammered in fear coupled with shock. Cohen didn't inform the shareholders about the loss so they wouldn't end their contract with him, which was why he was covering up, and was
It’s been over three hours since Jacob advised him to seek help from Ivy organization, but Cohen was yet to decide.Calls from the local and global shareholders have been coming into his phone non-stop, but he dare not pick them. He already knew why they were calling because the news of his bankruptcy has gone viral among the shareholders. After some minutes of resting his head on his desk, he reached a conclusion.“Ivy organization is my only hope, I'll have to run to them.” He decided and immediately stood on his feet.He picked his phone and car key and walked out of his seat.As he laid his hand on the door handle, a thought zoomed into his mind, holding him back from opening the door.‘Will they help me?’ He wondered. He thought for a moment, and encouraging words found their ways out of his mouth, telling himself. “Trying isn't a crime. I should give it a try.”He released a deep breath and quickly paced out of his office.*****It’s been over an hour since Cohen has been waitin
