Chapter two

The following morning, as the sky started to lighten up, Mrs. Bridgette, Mr. Ian, and Mr. Tristan arrived at Kathy's rented apartment.

"Do you think this is the correct place? How could Kathy possibly live in such a poor neighborhood?" Bridgette asked, her face displaying a frown.

Ian nodded in affirmation. "Kathy sent me the address last night, specifically asking us to come and find her here this morning. This is indeed the right place."

"Damn it, I've heard rumors that she's been struggling financially for years, barely making enough money to get by. I hoped it was just gossip, but it appears to be true. Xavier is a despicable person," Tristan exclaimed angrily.

At that moment, Kathy appeared, donning high heels and wearing a radiant expression on her face, seemingly unaffected by Xavier's actions.

"Are you all here? Then let's get going, everyone!" she said, her smile light and carefree.

Bridgette and the rest exchanged glances, puzzled by Kathy's statement.

"Where exactly are we heading?" they asked in unison.

Kathy lifted her chin confidently, basking in the gentle glow of the sun on her flawless face.

"We're going to Henderson Corp," she declared.

Bridgette and the others stared at her, their eyebrows raised in surprise.

"Kathy, are you certain? Won't we risk getting arrested? Henderson and Harvard are in the midst of a major conflict. They're bitter rivals, and we've been poaching their clients for quite some time. Going to Henderson Corp now might just provoke them."

...

Eventually, Kathy and her group of four arrived at Henderson Corp. The company appeared much larger and more professionally structured compared to Harvard.

The receptionist at the front desk scrutinized Kathy, casting several curious glances in her direction.

"Hello, may I ask who you're here to see?" she inquired.

Kathy wore a light smile as she spoke, "I'm Kathy Thompson from the Harvard Group. I would like to have a conversation with your CEO regarding an important matter. Could you please inform him?"

"Alright, please wait for a moment," responded the receptionist, looking at the group of four with a perplexed expression.

Coughing awkwardly twice, Bridgette turned her head and whispered, "Have any of you noticed the peculiar looks they're giving us?"

Ian covered his face and replied, "Don't say that. We're definitely going to get arrested."

Meanwhile, on the top floor of the office, Dominic reclined in his chair, a slight curve forming on his lips as his eyes held an intriguing gleam.

"Kathy Thompson is seeking me out? How interesting. Let her come up," he mused. He had crossed paths with the Harvard Group on numerous occasions, and Kathy had left a lasting impression on him. Her exceptional abilities had led to her snatching away many of his company's orders in the past.

"Mr. CEO, it's been a while," Kathy greeted with a smile.

Dominic gazed at the beautiful Kathy standing before him, his lips curving slightly. "Miss Kathy, it's not often that you pay us a visit. How can I assist you today?"

Kathy's lips formed a slight curve. "I'll get straight to the point. I wanted to inquire if you would be interested in bringing us on board." She placed a brief summary of the four of them on his desk and smiled.

Dominic raised an eyebrow, a flicker of surprise passing through his eyes. "Are you jesting with me?" He didn't bother looking at the information on the desk and asked coldly.

Kathy casually sat on the sofa, propping her chin up with her right hand, and replied with a smile, "I wouldn't dare jest with you. My admiration for your accomplishments is akin to an unending path. It's my dream to be a part of your company, and I hope you'll consider taking us in.”

A slight twitch appeared on Dominic's lips. As he listened to Kathy's earnest but seemingly nonsensical words, he couldn't help but almost believe her!

Tapping his fingers lightly on the desk, Dominic maintained a smile on his lips, though his eyes turned icy cold. "Has the Harvard Group sunk so low that it needs to send its key members, such as yourself, to spy on us?"

Kathy responded with a charming smile, her eyes sparkling with a touch of mischief. "Are you brave enough to accept the challenge?"

After a brief pause, Dominic finally picked up the brief summary from the desk. In the next moment, his lips twitched slightly. "Is the Harvard Group out of their minds?" All four individuals, including Kathy herself, were significant members of the company. Through several encounters, he had become somewhat acquainted with them. Was it truly worth sending these four to spy on him? Kathy offered little explanation, simply raising her chin slightly.

“Please guide us on our duties.”

“When would you like to start working, then?”

Kathy pondered for a moment, recalling that Xavier had secured a contract with the Topcom Brand scheduled for a month later. Within a year, Topcom had transformed from an insignificant clothing brand to a leading brand in the country, and Harvard had experienced a significant leap as well due to their association with Topcom. Kathy knew she had to seize this opportunity.

"If it's possible, I would like to start today and take on the role of project director," Kathy confidently stated.

Dominic chuckled, his grin widening. "You certainly have confidence!"

The position of project director held immense importance within the company, with its responsibilities influencing various aspects of the company's performance.

Kathy arched her eyebrows and her crimson lips formed a slight smile as she spoke, "Trust me, you won't regret it."

Dominic pondered for a moment before responding, "Alright. I hope you won't disappoint me."

Kathy felt a wave of relief wash over her. She wasn't entirely confident, but she had chosen Dominic precisely because he was unpredictable and unconventional. She was counting on this aspect of his character.

"What about the other three?" She asked about the partners she had arrived with.

"Just stick to their positions at Harvard. However, now that you're with Henderson, you're on my side. If I discover any disloyalty, don't expect me to show mercy," Dominic said coldly.

Kathy nodded, "I believe our ideas are sound."

Bridgette couldn't believe her ears upon receiving Kathy's positive response.

"Is it true? Dominic wants us?" Tristan questioned, his expression filled with disbelief.

Although it was the same position, the Henderson company was on a completely different level compared to Harvard. Its scale and influence far surpassed that of Harvard.

"We're fortunate, aren't we?" Tristan exclaimed, a pleasant surprise evident in his voice.

Kathy glanced at them, her tone filled with determination, "Why are you so surprised? We are talented individuals who are more than qualified for this role. Let's go, I'll treat you to a meal, and we can start working in the afternoon."

They had resigned from their previous company, and Xavier could no longer accuse them of stealing company secrets as he had in their past lives. That false accusation had left them unable to find employment. Bridgette, who possessed double doctorate degrees and had received numerous accolades in her field, had been ostracized by the industry due to the theft charge. In the end, she could only take on multiple projects and live a miserable life.
