Chapter 2

TWO: ERIC’S POV.

It was the day I was planning to get engaged to the person I knew obviously nothing about—

It was all the fault of my father—

He had planned it with my prospective bride’s father—so it was just my plan to make her my queen and nothing else.

Her role in my life was just to provide me with children and also become a good queen to the people...

It was almost time for the party to begin, but where was she?

I felt annoyed about her lateness to her engagement ceremony, as it seemed like I was the only one it was important to.

Still lost in thoughts, I got the news that they were here already.

Quickly, I walked out to welcome them since it was a tradition in my groove.

I waited patiently at the door till I sighted them from afar, but still—I didn’t see my mate.

I had gotten the news that her father wouldn’t be coming to the ceremony since he wasn’t around for the main time—but suddenly I sighted her—

She was carrying a box of gifts as she walked towards the venue, struggling with the box.

My eyes widened in shock, and I began to wonder if she wasn’t the supposed daughter of an Alpha.

I was confused, but her dressing made it very obvious that she was the one getting engaged that night!

Her gaze locked with that of mine, and I could guess that she didn’t know I was the one until I called on to her.

“Sandra!” I called loudly, the moment she walked past me making her halt abruptly.

I beckoned on my guard to help her out with the box, and that was when she turned and sighted me...

“Yes,” She answered and took slow strides towards me when I felt it.

There was this strange scent I got from her the moment she came walking towards me—making me dumbstruck.

“Why....” She trailed off with widened eyes, but it seemed to me that she has gotten a hint of what was happening.

The scent became stronger the moment she told wow strides towards me, and I was sure that I saw a sly smile form on her lips.

Then I began to pray that it wasn’t what I was thinking!

She suddenly came towards me and touched my hands, and I felt it—the sparks of electricity...

My eyes widened in shock the moment I discovered that it was exactly what I was thinking—

She was my mate!

I became weak, and I wondered silently about the kind of mistake the moon goddess did to make her mate....

It was not a happy moment for me, and I felt disgusted the moment I saw a happy smile on her face.

“I think you’re the Lycan King right?” She asked with a smile on her face— a smile I so much found annoying.

“Yes,” I replied her, staring at her blankly.

“Funny enough how my mate turned out to be my unknown husband—I feel so excited,” She said excitedly, as the excitement could be heard in her voice.

I felt irritated and all I wanted to do then was to push her away from me—but I just needed to control myself.

“You aren’t my mate,” I stared firmly with a cold expression that managed to keep her mute.

“What?” This was all she managed to say...

“Yes—you aren’t my mate and you can never be mine,” I spat angrily and turned to walk inside the hall for the ceremony to begin when I halted again.

Turning around, I saw her staring into space—as I figured out that she might have found it difficult to believe what just happened.

“I...Eric Axel, The Lycan King of the Lycan groove rejects you....” I was saying when she rushed towards me and held me tightly, tears dropping out from her eyes.

“Please don’t do this,” She cried painfully, but my mid was made up.

“Sandra Mackenzie as my mate,” I said coldly, as I watched her shoulders drop in defeat.

Her tears were already stained on her cheeks—but I refused to let emotions get the best of me.

It was painful for her which I could understand, but I couldn’t bring myself to accept a weak mate—

Seeing her doing a job meant for the maids turned me off, but she might not just understand it—so it would just be better if we just get married without any feelings attached.

That was just the best way for me to cope with her!

“But why do you hate me this much even if this is our first encounter together?” She asked me but I chuckled loudly.

I really didn’t know what to tell her, but the thing I wanted to get over with that instant was the engagement ceremony—so I faced her with a blank look.

“Let’s get this engagement over with,” I said and walked inside the venue—leaving her in the world of her thoughts.

There was absolutely nothing I wished for that moment except that I just wanted to get the engagement party over with—

After staying for minutes, I decided to look out for her so we could begin the party when I sighted her walking into the hall with smiles over her face.

I was taken aback for a while and began to wonder if it wasn’t the lady I just rejected a while back—

Her smiles looked real, but when I knew it was all a facade was when she glared at me expressionlessly when our eyes locked together.

“Its time,” The speaker said, and everyone stood together—

“Let’s invite the soon-to-be couples to the stage,” He said, and I breathed deeply—

I knew deep down that it wasn’t going to be easy to keep up a facade—but I just wanted to do it that night.

She glanced at me, and breathed deeply while I walked towards her and held her hand—that strange feeling of something electrifying came again—and I quickly released her hand.

“What,” I heard her mutter as she stared at a certain direction—
