Changes

He went in immediately the doctors told him he could see his mother. She looked so much more better and he felt so relieved, she even smiled on seeing him.

He immediately went in for a hug and melted into her embrace, he had missed this. After they separated, his mother looked at him weirdly and asked. "Your clothes feel wet and what in the world happened to your hair?"

Jeremy grew confused and looked at his reflection in a surgical tray and his eyes widened, it took everything in him to prevent himself from gasping, his hair was purple!

He tried to act normal. "Um..... My hair...... It's actually kind of a long story." He stuttered, he wasn't very good at lying and had to come up with something quick or else his mother would find out about his little stunt not too long ago.

"A long story, huh? I wanna hear it. I can't believe I was in the hospital fighting for my life and you were busy dyeing your hair, and purple? Why would you choose purple of all colours?" She asked, evidently livid.

"Um....... The truth is, it's actually kind of funny. Well, there was this new hair product and they were giving out free samples for trial and I took one and decided to try it and this.......... Was the result." He was stunned at how perfectly that came out, when had he learned to lie so well?

Her face softened immediately and a smile followed. "Oh,you silly goose. You shouldn't try every hair product you see, some are fake. Don't worry,it'll wash off in a few days. What about your wet clothes?" She replied and asked.

"It actually rained on the way here." That was only half a lie because it did rain but it was only a drizzle, the reason why he had been soaking wet when he arrived and why he hadn't caught a cold yet, well he couldn't even tell.

"My poor baby,I wonder if you'll ever be able to do anything on your own." His mother said and shook her head playfully.

His mother was discharged in a week and he stayed with her most of the time, only going to school when she insisted.

Once everything returned back to normal, Jeremy couldn't help but notice the changes that were taking place, changes in his own body.

He soon noticed that he could heal faster than normal and this was scary,to say the least.

On a Saturday morning, just a week after his mum's discharge, he was in the bathroom and he was shirtless. He looked to where he had been injected about two week ago and saw a small dent,he touched it and it seemed to warm up,his purple hair turned normal, a natural sandy blonde.

He was visibly shaken. What the hell was going on? He stepped backwards and accidentally flung his toothbrush from his hand.

The brush was falling to the ground and he stretched his hand forward, aiming to catch it when it suddenly stopped, mid air.

A gust of wind seemed to be holding it from falling, he was flabbergasted. What sort of magic was this? Could his mum be playing a prank on him? No that couldn't be, she didn't have that much of a sense of humor and besides, she was just from hospital, he doubted she would do such.

When he moved his right hand backwards, trying to get away from the supposedly haunted toothbrush, it started falling again but when he stretched his hand forward again, it stopped falling.

Wait, was it possible that he was the one holding it from falling? He questioned himself internally but he immediately dismissed the thought, such only happened in cartoons and comics.

There was no such thing as superpowers or were there? He tested the thought by moving his hand backwards, the brush fell down on the floor.

He moved his hand forward once again, with a thoroughly beating heart and the toothbrush moved.

His heart nearly reached his throat as he withdrew back in fear but he summoned some courage and moved his hand forward once again, deciding to stay still.

He concentrated on the toothbrush this time and he could feel some kind of invisible energy moving through his veins, the air in the bathroom seemed to gather around him, moving towards the toothbrush on the floor and ascending it till it was at the same level with his hands. He felt himself smile, this was simply too good to be true, maybe he was dreaming.

The voice of his mother calling to him made him flinch in shock. He immediately lost concentration and the toothbrush landed on the floor once again.

"Jerry, aren't you done yet? I'd like you to go over to the grocery store and get a few things." Her voice came calling.

"Uh...... Almost done, I'll be there soon." He said and picked up the toothbrush, disposing of it and getting a new one before freshening up real quick.

He took the grocery list and before he knew it, he was at the grocery store. He stood there stunned. The grocery store was about a mile from his house and he had gotten there in minutes. Not only could he control air,but he could also superspeed too? Sweet! Now he knew he'd never be late to school again. He bought all the necessities and super sped home.

"How'd you buy everything and manage to get home so quickly?" His mother was surprised. "I hitched a ride home in my friend's mother's car." He said wondered if he had attained super lying too.

"Oh,alright." She said and took the groceries to the kitchen, keeping most of it in the fridge. When he got to his room,he tested his air powers again and found out he could really control wind. He almost couldn't believe it, had he really attained superpowers? Did this all have to do with what that man had injected into his system? And most importantly, would his new found powers turn out to be good or bad? He was full of questions and decided he would turn to his best friend, Brooke for succour.

Brooke was a known geek and an A+ student, he always seemed to have answers to questions most of the time. Jeremy was certain Brooke would have an explanation to what was going on with him,he just hoped it would be good and everything would turn out fine.
