Chapter 5

Inside the noisy bar, Lucas' icy and grim exterior made him stand out like a sore thumb.

As he quietly drank his liquor, his business partner, who sat beside him, nudged him with a smirk. "Look at that chick in the white minidress, Mr. Yates. Hot stuff, isn't she? She's exactly my type. Can you see how flexible she is? I bet she's fucking good in bed!"

Lucas curled his lip disdainfully. He looked in the direction his business partner was pointing.

Even with the dim lighting, he could tell the young woman on the dance floor looked rather familiar. Lucas took a closer look—it was Chelsey.

Her hair was loose around her shoulders, and she wore a white minidress. She was dancing without a care.

She twisted her slender waist, catching the attention of the men around her. The vibrant energy in her was obvious, but it didn't take away from her mystery and sexiness.

Lucas had always thought Chelsey was an obedient, demure woman. He hadn't expected her to have such a wild side. She was sexy and seductive as she danced, like a succubus that would only appear in the middle of the night.

It was the complete opposite of the level-headed, sensible side that she showed in the day.

A few men with salacious intentions circled her.

Lucas shot to his feet with a dark expression. He stormed over to Chelsey.

She was having the time of her life when a hand suddenly clamped down on her wrist. Before she realized what was going on, she'd already been dragged off the dance floor.

"Hey, who the hell are you? What are you trying to do?" She tried to shake him off. No one in their right mind would wear a suit to a nightclub!

Whoever was holding onto her didn't turn around, so all she could see in the dim lighting was a tall figure.

Women had to be especially careful when at places like nightclubs. They could bump into serial killers there, for all they knew.

"Let me—"

"Shut up!" Lucas turned around to glare at her.

Chelsey stiffened. "L-Lucas?"

What was he doing in a place like this?

He dragged her out of the nightclub. As they stood at the entrance, he took off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.

Her dress was so short, and the neckline was so low. Who was she dressed so revealingly for?

"Go home now. You're not allowed to come to places like this in the future!" Lucas' voice was especially icy in the night. Chelsey couldn't help shuddering.

Then, she shrugged, making the suit jacket fall to the ground. "We're getting divorced soon, so I don't need you to interfere in my business. You're the one who should leave to spend time with Shannon.

"She's so weak and fragile that she can't live without you. She's the one who needs you to boss her around!" Chelsey forced out through gritted teeth as she glared at Lucas.

It was as if he were her nemesis, not her husband.

This was her first time speaking to him so harshly; Lucas wasn't used to it.

His tone softened a little as he said, "I'll have someone take you home."

Even his icy eyes seemed to melt a little.

"Save it. I'll head home when I've had all the fun I wanted." Chelsey turned to head back inside the nightclub.

Lucas grabbed her by the wrist again. "You're not allowed to go in there."

Chelsey found the situation ridiculous. Why was Lucas bossing her around instead of spending his time with Shannon? Wasn't she just a caregiver? Was there any rule or law that banned caregivers from going to nightclubs and having a drink or two?

She was about to say something when a man who looked like a nice guy stumbled out of the nightclub.

He'd had a few drinks, and his face was red from the liquor. He saw Lucas holding onto Chelsey.

At this, he smiled cheekily and said, "This chick caught my eye first, Mr. Yates. It wouldn't be appropriate of you to take her away from me, would it? It looks like she doesn't even wanna go anywhere with you. You should leave her alone."

He approached Chelsey.
