Chapter 4

"Shannon and Mr. Yates are childhood sweethearts who were made for each other. You're the one who tore them apart, you vixen!"

"Nothing good will come out of someone willing to be a mistress. What goes around, comes around. It's what you deserve!"

Chelsey clapped her hands over her ears and cried, "I'm not a mistress! I'm not!"

But people would only pity the weak, especially when the weak were beautiful. No one cared about Chelsey's pain and grievance.

That night, the atmosphere seemed particularly lonely. It looked like it would be yet another tough night.

Chelsey stood beneath the shower as the warm water poured over her. The image of Lucas leaving with Shannon kept replaying in her mind. Her heart ached with every second of it.

Her face was wet; she could no longer tell whether it was from the shower or her tears.

Suddenly, the sound of the door flying open dragged her back to her senses. She wiped the water on her face away with a towel and opened her eyes.

Chelsey met Lucas' furious gaze through the glass door of the shower, which had fogged up from the steam. In that instant, her heart stopped.

Lucas had hurried home in a rage. To his surprise, he'd stumbled upon Chelsey while she was in the shower.

The steam from her shower filled the bathroom, and her flawless skin gleamed under the lights. Even through the fogged-up glass, Lucas could see her every curve. Her long hair was draped behind her shoulders, leaving every inch of her skin bare for his eyes.

Lucas took in how sexy and seductive she looked. The blood rushed to his head, and he felt like a certain part of him ached. He was about to explode.

This was his first time really looking at Chelsey after regaining his sight. She wasn't identical to Shannon, but she was also pretty.

She looked at him with wide eyes, unsure of what to do. The scene made his heart itch. Suddenly, unspeakable images formed in his mind. There was a dreamlike quality to them; he couldn't tell whether they'd actually happened.

Lucas felt awkward and embarrassed. He growled, "Why didn't you lock the door when you came in here to shower?"

"How would I have known that you'd suddenly come back?" Chelsey covered herself with a towel, feeling embarrassed.

They were a married couple who'd slept in the same bed for three years, but this was the first time he'd stared at her so blatantly while she was in the shower.

Lucas backed out of the bathroom. Chelsey turned off the water and put on a bathrobe. When she walked out, she saw Lucas sitting on the couch. She asked, "What are you doing back here?"

Lucas sat with one leg crossed at the knee. He watched Chelsey coldly. This was his first time looking her in the eye after three years of being married.

It made Chelsey's heart skip a beat. She lowered her head, not daring to look at him any longer.

Lucas' voice was devoid of emotion as he said, "You have to apologize to Shannon for injuring her hand. I won't let you off so easily if you pull something like this again."

He was positive she'd injured Shannon, and she didn't want to explain herself anymore. Her heart sank.

Chelsey walked over to the bedside table and picked up a document. Then, she threw it at Lucas. "I won't apologize to her. Let's get divorced, Lucas."

Lucas' eyes flashed. It seemed he was caught off guard by her request for a divorce.

From the day she'd married Lucas, Chelsey had secretly sworn to stay by his side for the rest of her life. She would act as his walking stick, care for him, and make him happy.

But now that Lucas had regained his sight, he no longer needed a walking stick. That also meant he no longer needed her.

Shannon was the woman he'd loved all this while, and Chelsey was nothing but a caregiver.

She'd wasted three years of her life on a heartless man!

After throwing the divorce papers at Lucas, Chelsey headed into the walk-in wardrobe to get changed. When she came back out, he was already gone.
