Grace's POV
The next morning I made my way to my cabin, not before wishing Valentina a good morning who returned it with a big smile. I placed my things on my desk before moving out to grab some coffee for Mr Knight.I took the cup in my hand along with a sandwich I had bought for him on the way, knowing he doesn't have breakfast. I gently knocked on the door and entered after hearing a stern come in. I wished him as I placed the coffee and sandwich on his desk. He eyed the sandwich curiously before concentrating back on his work."What do I have on schedule today?" He kept his eyes locked on the laptop."You just have a meeting today with Mr Steve to further discuss the project." I explained. For some reason I don't know, I didn't trust this Mr Steve. I mean that day at the meeting the way he was looking at me did not feel right. And then he even commented about me casually to Mr Knight. That too right in front of me. His eyes gave away something. Something mischievous. My sixth sense was telling me that I should investigate everything before Mr Knight signs off the deal with him.Mr Knight nodded at me before telling me to proofread a few documents that he emailed me. I went back to my office to work. I was concentrating on the words on my screen when all of a sudden my phone rang."Hello," I answered without removing my eyes from the screen."Miss Miller! This is Claire" I sighed at the name. I knew what was coming. She was the owner of the house I was living in and I had to pay her the rent for two months now since I was not able to pay last month. I had been saving up for the rent which often had me sleeping empty stomach on several nights but I was doing everything I could. The month was still not over so I hadn't yet received my paycheck and now I could only hope she gives me a little more time."Well it's the 10th of May. Like you promised, I should be receiving my money today." She sassed."Claire I know I promised but I still haven't received my paycheck. Can you please wait till the 20th or something, I promise I'll pay all the debts." I tried reasoning but she wasn't having it."No girl! I have had enough of you. That's what you say everytime. I'm giving you three days. If I don't get my money in three days, I'm kicking you out and that's final!" She boomed and hung up without listening to me.Now what the hell was I supposed to do? I squinted my eyes shut, pinching my nose, trying to figure out a way out of this mess. And only one logical thing crossed my mind. Maybe I can ask Mr Knight for an advance payment. I mean I have been an efficient worker up till now. Haven't I? I haven't really given him any excuse to get angry at me. Could he do me this favor?A reminder on my phone rang signaling that it was time for the meeting with Mr Steve. I sighed, making a point of asking Mr Knight for the advance payment after the meeting.I couldn't help but gaze at Mr Steve curiously. He kept smirking whenever Mr Knight said something about the deal or the company. That creep even had the audacity to wink at me secretly when Mr knight wasn't looking. I glared at him deciding to let it go as this deal was everything for Mr Knight and I didn't want to ruin it."Very well then Mr Knight. Can't wait to sign off the deal the day after tomorrow," Mr Steve shook hands with Mr Knight after the meeting was done."The pleasure is all mine Mr Steve," Mr Knight replied with a curt nod. And within a few minutes, the room cleared out leaving behind me alone with Mr Knight. I started gathering the papers, finding a way to bring up the topic of advance payment while Mr Knight was busy punching in letters on his phone. His eyebrows were scrunched, showing he was concentrating on something rather important. Thus I decided to bring up the topic in his office."Bring the files on the recent project," he demanded before leaving for his office.I made my way to the cabin to get him the files that I prepared yesterday. As I was almost there, I saw Mr Steve coming out of my cabin. I raised my eyebrows wondering what he was doing there. He saw me and his expression paled for a second only to be replaced by a smile."Did you need anything?" I asked as he stood under my scrutinizing gaze."Oh no, I was just looking for the restroom," he replied, rubbing his hands together."It's left down the corridor," I pointed out and he speeded in the direction after murmuring a quick thank you.I entered my cabin to see everything was alright and seemed perfect just as I left it. God, I need to stop having negative thoughts. I shook my head and picked up the file that Mr Knight had asked me to bring.I placed them on his desk before he picked them up to read the data. I was playing with my fingers, waiting for him to get done so I could discuss what I had wanted to.I saw him as he went through the details hurriedly before his eyebrows scrunched down in confusion and an angry expression masked his face."What the hell is this Miss Miller? Do you not work with your eyes open?" My heart beat sped at his sudden outburst."I ... What's.. what's wrong Mr Knight?" I stuttered out, not knowing exactly what he was angry about."What's wrong? This whole document is fucking messed up. And I would have lost a million dollars for your stupid mistake. Are you even paying attention while preparing all this for me?" His voice boomed down the corridor as he threw the papers in the air making them fly in every direction and scatter over the floor. He got up from his chair, reaching for his door."Get this shit fixed before I come back!" With that he left.I nervously bent down on my knees to gather up the papers with my heart still threatening to burst out from my rib cage. His anger is seriously something. I didn't even know what was wrong with the document. I stacked the papers up before going through them. My eyes widened at what I saw. It was the terms and condition of the deal that he was about to sign in two days.Originally it was decided that after signing the deal, Mr Knight would become owner of 30 % shares of Mr Steve's company. But the papers I was reading mentioned that Mr Steve would become owner of 30% shares of Mr Knight's company? What the hell? I can't make this big of a mistake. I knew I had the documents reviewed a million times and everything was fine... unless..... That bastard. I knew who was behind it.That fucker had replaced the papers. That's why he was in my office. No wonder I got those negative vibes from him. I knew he wasn't good news from the start and just proved it. That means he is planning something bigger! Now I need to convince Mr Knight to call off the deal with him. The only question was how?I sighed, getting up as another thought roamed my mind. Here goes my chance of asking him for the advance payment. Boom.GRACE'S POVI went to my cabin, still trembling a little from the incident that occurred not minutes ago. I redid the whole document and made sure to re-check it over and over again before finally submitting it to Mr Knight. He didn't even acknowledge my presence as I made my way into his office and placed the document on his desk. I asked if he needed anything else. Not getting a reply in return, I just turned around to leave. I sat on my chair before calming myself. Was I ever going to have a simple life without having to worry about money anymore? With having someone to care about me. Why did you leave me so early mom? Just why? A tear leaked from my eye at the memories I had with her. My mind trailed off to the days when we were all happy, living together as a family. With my elder brother always there to look after me and to kiss my boo boos when I got hurt. Was he doing alright now? Had he settled down in life? Had he taken over dad's business as it was planned? I just hoped
Grace's pov Two days. Just two days left. And she'll kick me out. I can't believe I wasted a whole day just like that. I finally slammed my laptop shut when I couldn't find a reasonable side job that could help me generate a few dollars in two days. They at least required you to work for a week. Like come on! Can't they hire someone as a helper for two days? I saw the clock starting at 8 am. Yep. I stayed up all night. I dragged myself to the bathroom and took a shower and got changed for the office, all the time worrying over the fact that if I don't have enough money in two days, I will have no place to live in. Reaching the office, Valentina stopped me before I made my way to the elevator. "You ok?" She sounded worried. "You don't look so good." I gave her a half-hearted smile, "I'm fine, just a little tired," I explained and she scowled at my words. "I can literally see those dark circles under your eyes. Not to mention it looks like you lost a couple of pounds." She st
Grace I was ready for the event, waiting for the car to arrive at my door. I heard a horn, indicating the car was here. I looked at myself once in the mirror, before leaving and locking my door. When I turned around to face the car, my eyes bulged out of my sockets. I saw a brand new Limo waiting outside my door. The driver stepped out from his seat and opened the door for me. I thanked him before sitting in and he quietly drove us to our destination. He opened the door once again for me as I stepped out. I looked in front to see paparazzi surrounding the front gate of the hall. Their eyes immediately turned towards me. Without paying more attention to it, I decided to head in, trying to escape the countless cameras flashing in my direction. "You are one pretty lady." I heard a camera man saying to me. I turned to face him. "You could do an excellent job as a model." He handed me a card. "My company is recently looking for ethereal beauties like you. Give it a call if you are i
Grace I plopped down on my bed after kicking off my heels. I groaned, staring at the ceiling. Why can't things go my way for once? Another day wasted. If I don't pay tomorrow, then I won't have a place to live! God please help me! I beg you! I got up and changed out of the dress. My stomach growled, making me glare at it. Moving towards my kitchen, I grabbed an instant noodles packet from the cabinet and started boiling it. After having my so-called dinner, I succumbed to sleep. The next day, I was extra nervous when I made my way to the office. This didn't go unnoticed by many people and Stephen even approached me to ask if I was ok. Giving him a fake smile and a polite answer, I started making my way to the employee's elevator. But I stopped in my tracks when dizziness enveloped my head. I swayed a little, stumbling on my feet but still managed to balance myself. Stephen was quick to run to me and hold me by my shoulders. "Woah there! What is happening to you? You are definit
Author's pov Ashton felt his blood boil, as he waited for Grace to show up. Five minutes had passed since the meeting had started, and she was nowhere to be seen. He sighed from frustration, tapping his feet impatiently against the wooden floor. His eyes traveled to Mr. Steve who was sitting opposite to him on the long rectangular table. Not being able to control his anger anymore, he called for Stella. "Where is Grace?" he questioned her in his hard tone as soon as she entered the hall. Not wanting to anger him anymore, she decided to reply. "I didn't really see her anywhere in the office today Mr. Knight." She said while looking down at the ground. Ashton, irritated with the whole situation, ran his fingers through his hair. Sighing furiously, he got up from his seat and made his way to the glass wall behind him, that gave him a clear view of the city. Trying to calm himself, he closed his eyes momentarily before opening them back again. But that didn't help him either. In f
Adrian's POV Grace told me her whole story. And I couldn't believe she was indeed the 'Grace Miller' who was working as P.A for Ashton knight a.k.a. my best friend. She told me how he treated her like shit. Honestly I knew if there was any other girl in her place, he would have treated her the same. After what his mother did with his father, he had a stigma attached to women. 'They are nothing but gold diggers' that was his belief. I felt really angry after knowing how terribly he fired her like that. He should have at least given her a chance to clarify the situation. But no. I knew my best friend Ashton Knight to always act on impulse and then regret later. I didn't want to keep Grace in the dark by not telling the relationship I had with Ashton. It wouldn't have been fair to her. But that didn't mean I would not support her. Hell I will not let him come close to Grace anymore. She had already suffered so much. And I can't let that happen again. But that also didn't mean that
Grace's POV The next morning I was sitting on the kitchen counter, munching on some chocolate while Adrian was busy making his special English breakfast for us. The doorbell rang, signaling someone had come to visit him. "Hey can you get that?" he asked as the bacon sizzled on the pan. "Sure!" Hopping down from the counter I made my way to the door. I swung it open to see a girl of my age standing behind it and tapping her foot against the floor being impatient. Well she was pretty. Her eyes fell on me and they widened for a moment as she took my appearance in. Her eyes slowly trailed down my whole body, from my head to my toes. Her jaw dropped and a scowl marked her face. "How dare he!" She screeched and barged her way in, not before slightly shoving me away with her shoulder. "Get out of my way," she spat making her way in. Well that was rude. I followed behind her only to see her yelling at my brother? "Adrian! You cheater! Come out! Where are you hiding!" My eyes bulge
Grace's POV It's been a week since I've applied for a few jobs, because all I have been doing is sitting at home and eating chocolate. 'Home' saying that word felt nice. Just how much I wanted to have my own home. Anyways so about the job. I applied to a couple of companies but they all instantly rejected me, not knowing why. I mean you at least should tell me what my fault was or if I was not up to their standards. I would have honestly accepted it. "Found it," I sighed as I finally found the business card I was fishing for so long in my purse. It was the card that the camera man at the charity event offered me before I went inside the hall. I remembered that the company he was working for wanted a model. Well I'm 5 feet 5 inches. It's not too tall for a model but I look taller with heels so I guess it could work. And I think I was just a little above average looking. Well the people say otherwise. I've got comments on my beauty which are very hard to believe for some reason. I pl
