~Marina's Pov~

I strode into the halls of Silver Lake High with my most confident aura, shoulders straight and chin up.

Two months later and I was back in this shit hole called a school. As I walked to my locker, I overheard comments about my outfit, my hair and all of that jazz but I was used to it by now, one thing I found crazy was how a student who received such attention had the smallest social circle, well girls at SLake were backstabbers, none could be trusted, so I didn't bother drawing close to any, I stayed on my own and let them fawn over my brother. Besides the only reason I feel any girl would want to be close to me was to get Jakob's attention.

At school they made it easy for us, our new semester schedules were posted on the students forum a week before resumption, and this nice resumption morning, I had English language with Mr Wiley.

I did my locker combination and took out my English textbook, there was still some minutes before the bell rang, and I liked being early to class.

I entered the classroom and chose the last seat at the back that was by the window. Some students were all already seated as well, chatting about how their summers went I presume.

I plugged in my headphones and played Feels like loneliness by Sabrina Carpenter.

It was back to school and being by myself again, loneliness was my paddy, I didn't talk to no one and my usual emotionless stoic expression kept unfriendly friends away.

I feel like I'm forgetting to mention something... Oh yes! I play basketball.

Yeah maybe it's a family thing...

My Dad and Jakob have practically begged me to join the school's team but as always I'd pass, I didn't need the stress it brought, and all the rituals, marathons, training, drills, not to mention our gym coach was strict, mathematics and chemistry were already enough plus I was happy this way.

Then the bell rang and more students swarmed the classroom and the atmosphere became rowdy and sickening.

It's gonna be a long day.

Lucky for me lunch came early and finally I could meet my favorite person. Immediately I walked into the cafeteria to grab a soda from the vending machine, a deep bad boy ish voice called out my name.

The moment y'all been waiting for.

I spun around and a cheesy smile tipped my lips, "Jason Kuyper!"

His aura beamed and he hugged me briefly. Sadly, my small head was a little past his shoulder, he was also on the basketball team, the amazing power forward, he was pretty good himself probably better than Jakob... I said probably.

What's to know about Jason? Well he is my best friend since sophomore year although I'd known him since 7th grade, actually he's a grade higher or older whatever... I hardly spend time with people my age, I mostly hang out with Jakob and that's how I met Jason, they were classmates, I was the 8th grader's little sister and while everyone wanted to know who Marina was, Jason had ended up having a crush on me, and he was like super cute, toned and chiseled in the right places, literally every girl had a crush on him in middle school, he was basically the cutest boy at our school, curly brown hair with blond streaks and his eyes were an ocean of colors, some days it was grey, sometimes blue other times it was blue grey, it was just unique.

Well like every other mid-schooler I had a crush on Jason, he was literally the first boy I'd ever liked but unlike his committee of lovers, I never told him even up till now... Yeah I'm amazing like that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I still have feelings for him, I'm just saying he doesn't have the slightest clue that I once felt something for him.

As regards his dating situation, well Jason was basically a lover boy, with him there was always a new girl, after 10th grade I gave up keeping tabs, you could say he was a player and you'll wonder what I was doing with a guy like that as a best friend, well... I am a sucker for them bad boy vibes. But asides all those Jason was a real friend, he was my realest.

Yes my best friend and my brother were good friends as well.

"Dude! Do you even grow?" He stifled a mocking laughter.

"Don't even start, fuzzy brained fish."

He laughed heartily and it made me smile a little more.

"Come on everyone is already seated." Jason stated and lead the way to the table that everyone had their eyes on.

Again, I was among the highs in this school, I related with some guys from the basketball team, who were obviously older, but my only friend was Jason.

"Marina, omg I love the eyeliner." Kiara didn't miss a chance to hype me and shoot me her perfect smile.

I mouthed thank you while I sat down opposite her and Jakob, who nodded at me to acknowledge my presence since his mouth was stuffed with chicken nuggets, my brother was a food monster, even at school he didn't hide it.

Kiara and I were literally the only girls who sat at this table. And yes Kiara Jameson was a senior, a grey eyed singer with black cropped hair, her body was endowed and perfected with curves, and she was part of the drama club (ugh theater kids and their sauciness). Again I never hang out with people in my grade, outside the classroom, you can only find me where Jakob is.

At our school the senior's block was totally separated from ours, the cafeteria was the only building we shared with seniors, it was in between the two blocks and now that Jason and Jakob have been separated from me, I could only spend time with them during break and after school hours.

Did I forget to mention, there were four other guys sitting with us, their names are not important.

"So, are you coming for the party?" Jason asked me as everyone on the table engaged in interpersonal conversations.

I discreetly watched as Jakob and Kiara flirted quietly... They are so cute it's annoying.

Tbh, they make me believe I can find love too.

"What party?" I shook my head.

"Duhh, the annual back to school party." He blurted out like it was the most obvious thing.

I gave a sardonic laugh, "I think you're forgetting who you're talking too."

He face palmed and put a pringle in his mouth, "You're the weirdest teenager I know."

"That's besides the point, blockhead, my social battery can't relate." I said to him as I popped open my soda.

"Then get a new battery, Marie, socializing would do you good like for instance..."

"You can find a boyfriend... Blah blah blah," I cut him off and mused.

Everyone kept saying the same words in my hearing over and over again. Like is it a crime to be sixteen, single and have never dated any one?

The truth is I don't see myself dating anytime soon, before I enter into a relationship, I must really really really like that person and SLake boys weren't just it, I didn't want to joke around with my first time. Yeah it's pretty messed up.

Jason changed the topic sensing my mood swap, "How is junior year treating you so far?"

I shrugged, "So far there are no assignments, so I think we good."

The bell rung.

"Eek that's my call, I have biology, see you after school Jace!"

He kissed my forehead then I waved Jakob and Kiara before I left.
