Chapter 4

“Why chaos theory?”

“Why not?”

“I could not grasp the whole gist of it. Do you really think that this physics concept will predict our future?”

“To the minutest detail.”

After Isaac vividly explained how chaos theory had helped him with accurate predictions about the stock market, he suggested that this scientific concept could truly be a blessing to many a life once it becomes a law.

“Law of chaos?”

“I’m sure the whole scientific community will welcome and accept the idea of it.”

“Are you planning to win the Nobel Prize for Physics with this law?”

“No. I just believe that chaos theory should be the law of chaos.”

It was the coldest day in summer, Allison could not understand why Isaac insisted on this conversation, but she was resolute that the law of chaos was something Isaac was committed and passionate about. He was fascinated with the very core of it.

Jurassic Park introduced chaos theory to Isaac. Watching Jurassic Park led him to a curiosity beyond curiosities but their lessons in Harvard were more detailed, allowing him to embrace the whole idea and even work on it to improve this physics concept. When his physics professor at Harvard taught them about this, Isaac became head over heels in love; he promised he would probably spend the rest of his life with this scientific concept. His everyday struggles to prove that it must be a universal language just like any other scientific laws allowed him to be a millionaire through stock market investing in just a year with an initial capital of $10,000.

Besides, Isaac could not only predict the stock market but also enjoy accurate weather forecasts all for himself. He never failed himself. And he was quite ecstatic about it.

It was the first time he opened this newfound learning to someone, he trusted Allison about this. Even if she was still reluctant to acknowledge the concept, she was certain Isaac confided her with such a piece of essential information.

"Physics is my Waterloo."

"Not with me. I can lecture this scientific concept with you for all eternity."

"I knew it. You're in love with me."

Isaac laughed a silly laugh.

"Chaos theory is not something I would want to remember for all eternity. You can share this knowledge with anyone, not only with me. I'm sure all the girls in Harvard will adore you."

"Are you jealous?"

"Never. But you told me once about Jennifer you dated since last year."

"Let's get back to physics."

"I don't care about chaos theory." Even if she really cared for anything he wanted to tell him, the stars, the sun, the moons. She cared for anything he would share with her.

"I do."

"The only thing I understand about this physics concept is that sooner there will be a war, even a third world war. As you mentioned before. So don't pester me anymore about it please."

"This could affect our lives. I mean it."

"Yes. But I don't think you ought to prove it must be the law of chaos. Not at all."

"Why not?"

"Have you read James Gleick?" even if she knew the answer before he even shared it to her.

"Definitely! A thousand times before. And I will still read him until my last breath."

"War will never be. Believe me. I know there's a war in the Middle East, but my dad told me it would come to an end sooner."

"It will not. It is just the setting for another chaos. Lots of disasters are happening also."

"Will there be something positive?"

"I'm a naysayer."

Allison wanted to prove him wrong. And she would.
