Chapter 7 Home

Paige sighed in relief. She walked past Chris to the living room and saw the clothes on the sofa. Paige went over and picked them up for a look. They were brand new. She took them and headed to the en-suite bathroom to get dressed.

She felt comfortable in the loose-fitting athletic wear.

Paige emerged from the bathroom after a change of clothes.

“Come on. Let’s get some food in you,” Chris said.

Paige gave a nod.

She was hungry.

Paige walked with Chris out of the suite and took the elevator downstairs to the restaurant. Since Chris had ordered for her, the server immediately served the food when they sat down. Paige believed she could finish a six-course meal without a problem.

The reality was she lost her appetite after the main course.

It was because Chris was staring while she was eating.

Paige found it strange that she only managed to finish one main course while Chris finished two. She was not a slow eater, but Chris did not rush through his meal either. He ate with poise and grace.

So how did he make it through double her portion?

Maybe his mouth was big.

Paige stole a glance at him. Chris’ mouth was an adequate size.

She put down her utensil.

Chris raised a brow. “Are you full?”

Paige nodded her head. She was hungry, but she could not eat anymore with him watching her. She would just get some snacks later.

Even though women tended to have smaller appetites, Chris was not surprised that Paige enjoyed a hearty meal, with her finishing the appetizer and main course. Chris had seen many women only feasting on appetizers and salads.

“Let’s go back to our room,” Chris said.

Paige nodded her head and followed Chris back to their suite.

Back in the suite, Paige was filled with awkwardness.

What was next?

“We’ll stay here for the night. I’ll get your things moved to our family home tomorrow,” Chris uttered.

Since they were married, they should be living in the Jewells’ residence.

Paige was at a loss.

She was not ready to move into the Jewells’ residence.

That meant she would be spending a lot of time with Chris.

Paige panicked.

“I… live on campus,” Paige replied.

Chris gave a nod. “I know. You don’t have to live on campus now. The house is a twenty-minute drive to your school.”

Paige had no words.

She wanted to live on campus.

The last thing she wanted was to be alone with Chris.

However, she dared not speak her mind.

She was stuck.

If it were anyone else, she would have said no. However, she lacked confidence in facing Chris. She did not have the courage to stand up to him and go against his wishes.

“What’s the matter?” Raising his brow, Chris asked, “Don’t you want to live in our family house?”

Paige was speechless.

She could not bring herself to be honest as he might get angry. Even though he would not yell at or hit her, she was scared and timid.

Chris looked at Paige, waiting for an answer.

All the more, Paige was hesitant to be truthful.

Just when Paige cracked her head for an answer, her phone rang. The abrupt ringing interrupted the awkward tension in the air. Relieved, Paige told Chris, “Excuse me, I need to take this.”

She sauntered to a corner and looked at the screen. It was her sister, and Paige felt the heat.

Drawing a deep breath, Paige accepted the call. “Sierra.”

“Where are you, Paige?” Sierra asked tenderly.

“I’m still at the hotel,” Paige answered.

It was silent on Sierra’s end of the line.

Paige kept to herself.

She had no idea how to explain to Sierra that she and Chris had gone all the way.

“Um… When are you coming back?” Sierra asked cautiously.

“Tomorrow,” Paige answered.

Paige thought the call disconnected because of the prolonged silence. She was about to check if Sierra was still there when Sierra's voice came on. “Are you with Chris?”

Sierra's tone was careful and shaky, as if afraid of what she might hear.

Paige’s heart dropped. She fell silent for a while before giving a nod. “Yeah,” she replied faintly.

“Oh… Got it.” Sierra terminated the call in haste.

Paige stared blankly at the phone.

She got a feeling that she, Sierra, and Chris would be caught in a love triangle, and this was only the beginning.

“Was that Sierra?” Chris asked, even though he already knew the answer.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Paige turned around and looked at him. She gave him a nod.

Chris simply raised his brow without the intention of pursuing the conversation.

He did not want to talk about the woman who cheated on him.

“Get some rest. I need to go out for a bit,” Chris said.

Paige nodded her head. She was relieved as she did not want to be alone with Chris.

Chris left.

Paige brushed her teeth and went to bed, hoping she would be able to fall asleep despite her racing mind. She was asleep within minutes. However, she was startled awake when Chris returned to the suite.
