SOPHIA'S POV

I woke up at exactly 6 am in the morning. It wasn't a surprise as my body clock was set to start at that time.

In the next second, I sat upright on the bed and my eyes met the rows of daggers lined on the wall.

In the next second, I stood up to my feet as my eyes roamed over every artifact and weaponry in the room.

As one of the Betas of the pack, I was proud. I got my position by killing rogues and all those who challenged the pack. Also, I was dreaded by the guards due to rigorous training I make them go through.

"Hmm…" I let out a sound as I walked toward my closet.

Stripping myself of my pajamas, I stood naked before the wide mirror.

My body was toned and it had taken me years of hard work to get to this level.

"A body to die for." I said, with a smirk on my face and moved away from the mirror, I picked up a black leather pants and a tight black shirt. The next moment, I was dressed.

My hand found its way to my face as I touched my scar.

Taking a black mask that covered half of my face, I put it on to hide my scar. My scar was one thing I wasn't proud of and the memories of how I got it, started to rush in my head.

However, the next moment, I shook my head. I wasn't about to get emotional as I had things to do.

Swiftly, I walked out of the closet and toward the line of daggers on the wall. I had a vast collection and my favorite was the silver dagger placed atop every other one.

With my silver dagger in hand and a smirk on my face, I walked out of my bedroom. The pack was still silent and a few guards were patrolling about.

However, I did not want anyone to notice.

Skillfully, I maneuvered my way past the guards and out of the pack.

As I walked past the borders of the pack, the smell of the forest greeted me and I inhaled deeply.

My eyes shone with delight as I could detect a few movements in the forest.

"A lot of killings to do." I said, with a sneer on my face and immediately ran into the forest.

I ran through the narrow pathway lined by trees and in the next second, I jumped into a thick bush. My nose crinkled as I caught the familiar scent of a rogue.

With my dagger held tightly, I immediately stabbed through what was in my way.

"Ahhhh…" A painful scream echoed through the air as I twisted my dagger in the body of a rogue.

"Die!" I said, with a cold smile on my face. Immediately the rogue fell to the ground, several others circled me.

However, I wasn't scared or nervous. I knew I was born for this.

In the next second, I crouched into a fighting stance, and as a rogue jumped towards me, I threw my dagger in the air.

It flew with so much precision, that it cut through its throat, spurting out blood. Hot blood splattered on my face as I jumped to catch hold of my silver dagger.

"Anybody else?" I asked, as I went into killing mode. One thing about rogues was that they overestimated themselves and they thought they could overpower anyone.

However, the ones before me were just little children to me.

In the next second, a low scale battle began, with me cutting through throats and limbs. I enjoyed the feel of blood on my face and the smell intoxicated me.

Two minutes later, several dead bodies of rogues lay at my feet and I felt like I had conquered the world.

However, I did not rejoice too much. I listened in on my surroundings as I did not want a sneak attack in case there were still rogues.

When I decided the coast was clear, I spat on the ground and turned around to walk out of the forest. The sky had turned bright as I walked back to the pack.

Waking up and killing rogues was my daily routine. It did not matter even if today was my 18th birthday, I still had to go through my routine.

To others I was still a kid but then I was the first female Beta ever since werewolves walked through the earth.

I liked the feel of working amongst several male werewolves. It gave me a sense of equality and it was what I admired and craved for.

"Align!!" I ordered, in a loud voice as I walked into the training grounds.

The training grounds were not far from the borders of the pack.

At my words, the soldiers that were scattered around formed a straight line. Their eyes were set straight and they stood ramrod straight.

"6 laps! Around the track, twice." I ordered and immediately, they scattered around and started to run.

My eyes roamed every one of them and I realized they were no more than 17 years of age.

They were newbies and I knew they would get tired easily.

Minutes later, the soldiers were starting to breathe heavily.

But then I wouldn't renege on my order, as they would have to run 6 laps twice.

Their groans echoed through the wide area but they only fed my desire to train them.

"Don't you think you should let them rest?" A voice sounded behind me but I knew it was the Gamma.

"No!" I answered, simply with my hands behind me.

I had a frown on my face as I looked at the soldiers falling over themselves.

They needed to learn and I'll make them.

A few minutes passed, and all the soldiers laid on the bare floor with their uniform soaked in sweat.

"The sun is up in the sky, it's time to rest." The Gamma said to me and I pursed my lips.

I did not want to leave just yet but then they will all perceive me as cruel.

"Sure." I said, simply and then turned around.

My next destination was my bedroom as I needed to have a good shower.

However, in the next second, I heard the Alpha's voice echoing in my head.

"Sophia." He called out to me, through the mind-link and I halted.

"Yes, Alpha Dante." I replied as my eyes turned hazy due to the mind-link.

"The Lycan King will pay a visit to the pack, later in the afternoon." The Alpha said, going straight to the point.

At the mention of the Lycan King, I grimaced. I was about to reply to his words but then his voice rang in my head, again.

"His visit is for the annual male choosing and you know it's our pack's turn." He said, and I groaned.

"Not again." I said, through gritted teeth.

However, the Alpha could guess what I was thinking.

"You have no say in this, Sophia." He cautioned and I clenched my jaws. I did not like his words, one bit.

"Assemble all she-wolves of the pack. Including the warriors and omegas. The Lycan King will make his choice." Alpha Dante ordered and immediately, the mind-link was cut off.

"Fuck!" I cussed as I kicked as a wooden plank before me with so much force and It flew a few miles away

I hated the Lycan King with passion as he was known for his messy private life. He was a savage and he acted unruly.

The height of it all was that he treated she-wolves like they were nothing.

His ideology was that she-wolves were born for sex and breeding.

The painful part was that I couldn't do anything to stop him.

"What's going on?" I heard the Beta ask and I turned to look at him, with a cold look in my eyes.

"I have something to do." I said and immediately I walked out of the training grounds.

I couldn't disobey the Alpha's order and I set out to work.

I sent messages to all groups of she-wolves in the pack and in one hour, they were in attendance in a large hall.

As I stood in the hall alongside all the mature she-wolves in the pack, a look of pain flashed in my eyes.

I knew whomever the Lycan King chose, will be subjected to great agony.

For a few seconds, I closed my eyes and prayed to the Moon Goddess. I wished no one would be chosen from my pack.

In the next second, I walked out of the hall and came face to face with the Alpha. My heart started to beat knowing that King Roman's arrival was near.

"Is everything set?" The Alpha asked and I nodded my head grimly.

I couldn't hide the look of displeasure on my face and I did not care if the Alpha knew about my thoughts.

Asides from being displeased about what was to happen, I felt restless.

"What's wrong, Kyra?" I said, to my wolf, calling her fondly.

She started to claw at our bond and I knew she was restless as well.

"I need something." She said, in my head and I frowned.

Whenever she needed something, it meant that I needed it.

However, I couldn't think of something I might need.

"You need to calm down, Kyra." I said to her, as I stepped away from the Alpha. I needed to have a shower and get dressed.

I guess I was uncomfortable due to how sticky my body was.

However, as I was about to step out of the hallway, the Alpha's voice stopped me.

"Everyone is nervous about King Roman's coming." He said to me and I groaned.

I felt like giving him a heavy blow for stopping me.

I did not know why I was so irritated by everyone and everything.

"It's obvious." I replied, in a cocky tone which surprised the Alpha.

But then he went on to say, "Show your respect when the king is here." He ordered, in a stern tone.
