Chapter 4

Isobel

It was the first day of school.

I woke up early, ensuring that I left earlier than my sorority sisters to avoid any unnecessary confrontation. Unexpectedly, Crisha was up as early as me. Her kind-hearted nature compelled her to offer me a tour around the university. Crisha was in her third year and knew the ins and outs of every corridor within the campus grounds, making her a great companion on my first day at Silver-U.

We walked around the school, trying to absorb every detail Crisha was discussing. I even jotted down some important notes in my journal, making me look nerdier than usual.

"Make sure to remember every corner. This university is big enough to get lost. If you lose your way and get late, it means trouble. I heard that they are really strict here when it comes to tardiness."

“Gotcha,” I said, nodding my head in understanding. Scanning around, I could see how prestigious and exclusive Silver-U looked. The buildings were big and impressive, with beautiful lawns and modern facilities. It felt like a special place where smart and successful werewolves studied and worked. No wonder my mom was willing to become my aunt’s doormat as long as I secured my way in studying here.

Then, Crisha suddenly got curious about my background.

"You're attending one of the top universities on the continent, and not only that, you've even become a member of the most popular sorority in Silver-U. Come on, tell me. Who are you, really? And which pack do you hail from?"

I was shocked by the sudden question and immediately understood what she meant. There were only two types of students here: the geniuses and the rich. Obviously, I wasn’t part of the genius faction, so Crisha might have been thinking that I used influence to enter here. Well, it was partly true, as my uncle was one of the alumni of Silver-U aside from being an Alpha himself.

And then, I remembered my cousin, Thea. Since revealing which pack I belonged to could disrupt my peaceful college days, I took a moment to answer, trying to figure out what to say.

To my surprise, Crisha shrugged it off. "Forget it. You wouldn't be here if your family weren't rich enough anyway."

Crisha then shifted the conversation to herself. "My dad is a Beta wolf. He insisted I study here to enhance our reputation."

As she spoke, Crisha noticed a blonde girl in the distance. The girl was stunning, with a well-defined figure, a petite face resembling a doll, and deep blue ocean eyes.

"Here comes the school idol." I couldn't help but feel curious about her.

"Who is she?"

Crisha replied, her gaze fixed on the blonde girl.

"Kendra Kemmis. A Junior. She’s from the Emerald pack, the richest pack in the continent. Their pack is known for their great wealth. Her status here reflects the kind of pack she comes from. Unlike us, Kendra belongs to the top. In short, she is the alpha female here.”

Then, I noticed other female students staring at specific male students, particularly the one standing beside Kendra.

"Looks like that guy is adored by the female students here."

I glanced at Crisha, paused for a moment, and then laughed, observing her expression.

"Are you okay?"

Crisha ignored my teasing.

"You were right about that. I mean, who couldn’t fall for that magnificent being? He was created solely for love."

Crisha turned her face to me, still daydreaming with a wide smile, holding both of her hands and giggling.

"That’s my Prince Charming, Ryle Vanderberg."

I observed and noticed Kendra being all clingy to Ryle Vanderberg.

"Seems to me that they are dating."

Crisha’s facial expression changed quickly.

"That’s just rumors, you know. Or else, Ryle would announce it already. So Kendra is probably just daydreaming. I don’t blame . Everywhere, really. Every girl in this school desired Ryle at least once in their life."

Crisha pulled me closer to whisper something.

"Ryle and I attended the same high school. And I believe us ending up at the same university meant something.”

I looked confused, not having a clue about what Crisha was saying.

"Today is the day, my friend. The signs have already appeared. Now is the time to act."

Crisha gently pushed me and retrieved a small, cute letter from her pocket. I instantly recognized it as a confession letter. I smiled and hoped things would turn out well for my new friend.

We both trailed Kendra’s group until we found ourselves inside the cafeteria. It was more crowded than expected since it was already lunchtime.

We took our seats, and Crisha patiently waited for the right moment to approach Ryle. After a few minutes, Kendra, along with her friends, vacated the table where Ryle and his friends were seated.

Crisha stood up, took a deep breath, smiled, and walked toward Ryle’s group.

"Good luck, Crisha!"

I cheered from a distance as Crisha summoned the courage to approach the guy she had harbored feelings for since high school. Ryle's group, equally popular and charismatic, turned their faces toward Crisha as she made her way toward them. A hush fell over the group, and they all waited in anticipation for Crisha to speak. Even Ryle appeared surprised and remained speechless for a moment.

"Do you need something?" he asked.

It was evident that Crisha was feeling nervous. Intrigued, I moved closer to catch more details about my friend's heartfelt confession.

"Hi Ryle! Remember me? We were classmates back in high school."

Ryle smiled awkwardly as Crisha continued. She extended the letter with a hopeful expression.

"The truth is, I've liked you for quite some time now. If you're interested, I've poured my thoughts into this letter. Feel free to read the details at your own pace."

Finally, the confession appeared to be a success, and I couldn't help but smile widely. Crisha made it seem like the confession was a simple feat, but I could sense the courage she had gathered over the years. She was undoubtedly hopeful for a positive response.

However, when I shifted my gaze to Ryle, his reaction was far from what we expected. He appeared disgusted by Crisha's confession, assessing her from head to toe and scanning the letter in front of her.

“This is the lamest thing I’ve ever received.”

One of his friends from the table cheered.

“Another heartbreak brought to us by Mr. Popular!”

The group burst into laughter, making the feeling of shame even stronger. Crisha, her face now showing deep sadness, was left immobile. Ryle made things worse, smirking as he unkindly ripped the confession letter in front of her. The public rejection made the humiliation even more painful, leaving Crisha feeling vulnerable and hurt.

“Okay, that’s it!” I declared, as I rushed to their direction, ready to confront Mr. Not-so-nice guy and his jerk friends.

Swiftly, I charged in between them, pulling Crisha behind me to shield her. But the moment I laid my sight to his face, I was left breathless.

My heart skipped a beat as I looked at his attractive face. The messy looking jet-black hair, combined with his green-grayish eyes, created the most incredible combination that the moon goddess could have designed with our genes. He appeared like a deity descended from the heavens, his beauty momentarily robbing me of words.

However, I quickly regained my composure, remembering what he did to Crisha. I was about to say something to him, but the moment our eyes met, everything else seemed to disappear.
