Chapter 2

Amy was in a pharmacy in Cloud City.

She had just sold a batch of medicine, which gave her a decent income.

She was in a good mood, so she planned to treat the two little ones to a nice meal. They were waiting in the car.

After she gave birth five years ago, she and Mrs. Harper moved to the suburbs with the children. There, she met an old doctor who taught her alternative medicine. She learned the ways to identify various herbs and also the method of growing them. This knowledge sustained her family’s livelihood over the years.

With the children healthy and growing up happily, life was smooth and joyful.

While passing through the central square, a news broadcast on a large LCD screen caught Amy’s attention.

[The entertainment industry’s rising star and the Green family’s heiress—Jenny Green, will marry the Quinn family’s heir, Justin Quinn. Their five-year-long relationship will finally culminate in marriage.]

Amy stopped in her tracks and raised her eyes to the screen. She saw the couple in their wedding photo shoot, and they were deeply in love.

The scene stung her eyes and delivered a heavy blow to her heart.

Justin had once promised to marry her and grow old with her. He claimed that he loved her alone. Yet, he canceled their engagement hastily to be with Jenny instead.

For the past five years, he never offered any explanation for that night’s events.

Amy began to doubt if Justin had deliberately planned everything to break off their engagement early.

Her thoughts were tumultuous, and it took her a while to finally calm down.

Her kids were still waiting for her, and she did not want them to see her upset.

Soon, she reached the car. As she got in and looked at the rearview mirror, she saw her adorable twins waiting obediently.

The boy had a delicate face with a look of intelligence in his eyes. His lips were tightly pursed, which gave him a serious appearance. Meanwhile, the girl had large, clear eyes that twinkled. She looked both cute and gentle.

Despite their different personalities, they looked remarkably alike. They were as beautiful as dolls and were each holding a white kitten.

The four of them were very well-behaved as they sat adorably in the back.

Seeing Amy, the two kids beamed with joy. “Mommy, you’re back?”

“Mommy, welcome back! We’ve been waiting for you for so long!”

Even the kittens meowed in greeting.

Amy’s heart melted with affection.

“Mommy, did you make a lot of money today?” the older twin, Night, asked with childlike concern.

Buckling her seatbelt, Amy replied with a smile, “Yes. It went well. I sold all the herbs, so I can take you guys out for a big meal tonight.”

“Wow!” the younger twin, Star, cheered as her eyes lit up. “Mommy, can we have a seafood feast?”

“Of course,” Amy agreed happily. She could not say no when she saw their eager faces. “Let’s have a seafood feast.”

“Let’s go!” Star cheered and raised her little hand.

Amy started the car and drove off. She had bought this second-hand car because it was cheap. She used it mainly for deliveries.

However, midway, the car suddenly broke down. Before Amy could react, a loud bang sounded from behind.

“Ah!” Amy screamed in shock, and the car lurched forward from inertia. It shook as if it was about to fall apart.

“Night! Star!” Her first instinct was to check on the twins in their safety seats.
