Chapter 5

Amy felt defeated and burdened. She called a tow truck company and gave them her location before she contacted the traffic police.

Soon, both parties arrived. They briefly inquired about the situation and learned that the matter had been settled privately. As such, the traffic police did not pursue it further.

Amy felt a sense of loss as she watched her car being towed away.

“Ms. Green, please come with me to the police station. You need to make a statement,” said the traffic officer as he approached.

She nodded in agreement. Then, she took Night and Star by the hand and got into the police car. By the time everything was sorted and they got home, it was already evening.

Meanwhile, Aiden’s car arrived at the Hamlin family’s pharmacy.

The assistant, Nolan, was the first to get out and open the door. He and Lester then helped Aiden inside.

Upon entering, he immediately asked the receptionist, “Where is Mr. Hamlin?”

The receptionist quickly came forward and led them in. “Mr. Hamlin has been waiting for a long time. Please come in.”

Before long, Aiden was ushered into a room.

The room was decorated in the vintage style. It was calming and filled with the faint scent of sandalwood.

There was an esteemed elderly man in the room. He looked to be around seventy or eighty years old, but he appeared energetic with bright eyes. He stood tall in his suit and had a teacup in his hand.

Nolan addressed the elderly man, “Mr. Hamlin, Mr. Lewis sustained an injury, which aggravated his chronic condition. We need your help.”

Having endured the pain all the way, Aiden was on the verge of passing out. His eyes were drooping slightly, but his gaze remained fierce.

“Lay him down quickly. Let me have a look,” Mr. Hamlin instructed urgently as he put down his cup.

Nolan laid Aiden down on the bed, and Mr. Hamlin approached to examine him closely.

After a while, he scolded him softly, “This is ridiculous. I’ve warned you not to be reckless. How did you land yourself in this mess? Do youngsters nowadays think they’re invincible?”

“Is it serious?” Nolan asked worriedly.

Mr. Hamlin shot him a glance and replied irritably, “Would you believe me if I told you it wasn’t serious?”

Nolan was speechless and close to kneeling. “Mr. Hamlin, please stabilize Mr. Lewis’s condition. You have to save him!” he pleaded with great earnestness.

Mr. Hamlin glanced at him coldly and huffed. “I’m not a god. What can I do if he insists on dancing with death?”

Despite what he said, he did not stop working. He stopped Aiden’s bleeding first. Then, he treated his chest with some herbal ointments.

After a long while, Mr. Hamlin stepped out of the room. He took a pen and a piece of paper from the front desk and wrote down a prescription. “Brew the medicine according to this prescription. Use medium heat to boil it with three cups of water, and turn off the gas when the water level drops to approximately only one cup,” he instructed.

An hour later, Aiden woke up.

As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Mr. Hamlin and knew exactly what had happened.

“Your medical skills have improved, Mr. Hamlin. It looks like I didn’t pass out for long,” Aiden spoke hoarsely.

Mr. Hamlin replied, “Young man, you’re lucky that we happened to receive several rare medicinal herbs today. They managed to counteract your chronic condition. That’s why you woke up so quickly. Otherwise, you would’ve suffered.”

Aiden was surprised. “Is that so? Rare medicinal herbs? What kind of herbs would have such an effect?”

He had been treated by Mr. Hamlin for his condition before. Yet, he had never seen such miraculous effects.
